HEY! Yeah, you.
Whatever team is in charge of keeping this—my primary game—welcoming…thank you! Seriously, thank you, moderation team. Sometimes you don’t know what you have ‘till you don’t have it. <3 and cookies and stuff
You are welcome.
Guild Wars 2 ingame chats are usually very friendly and helpful. Even when certain events fails there’s not much hate going on at all.
The ingame chat usually keep itself clean. It’s only the forums that gets too much attention from the bad side.
you haven´t seen TERA then, that is… I don´t know if the english language even has a word for it.
I don’t get it…..moderators in zone chat?
There are no moderators in any zone in GW2…not even official game masters you could contact.
Probably you mean the forum?
Zone chats are “moderated” by the community.
I can’t say it’s due to moderation, but GW2 has a fairly clean community as far as map chatting goes. There is a minimum level of abuse and disgraceful behaviour, but it’s very good in comparison to most MMOs.
I think it is implied that reports of foul language, insults, harassment etc. are actually being investigated and the offender dealt with rather swiftly.

Yea, the community on Tera was one of the big reasons I left that game.
Even though i have tonnes and tonnes of infractions, some less deserving then others..
I totally agree ^^ (forum part)
I believe because the game is accessible for everyone without too much elitism (in pve/wvw) also the design of events are in a way that you need the people around you, so people think twice before trowing the flame.
Only times i ever caught flames was in soloQ because people take the game too serial.

Moderation…in general. Yes, chat is monitored by the community. But without action “behind the scenes” any reports are meaningless. Star Trek Online (OP) has a report function. I just don’t think anyone on the other side is listening.
It’s thanks to ANet actually taking reports of offensive ingame chat seriously and handing out suspensions, even bannings. The knowledge that there are actual repercussions for offensive language has a definite cleansing effect. There are periodic outraged posts on the Account forum from people who were suspended for language. There was even one where someone posted on behalf of a person who was banned for language. The most amusing ones are the ones that claim innocence and Gaile gets on and says no and why not.

How is anet responsible for the zone chat ? Thats a player base mentality…of all,you should thank the players for not constantly talking sexism, racism, homophobia.I fail to see how this is due to anet.
It’s understandable that there’d be a lot of frustrated people in a bad game that it could cause a lot of hostile map chat.

It’s due to ANet handing out suspensions starting at 72 hours for offensive chat. Each succeeding suspension is increased in length. If you know you are going to be removed from the game for 3 days or more it makes you think twice before making certain remarks.
I don’t have much experience with other MMOs but based on the many, many forums I’ve been a part of I think it’s both the moderators and the community.
Moderation, whether it’s up-front (moderators posting actively, GMs in game etc.) or behind the scenes does make a big difference. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who will only act decently towards others out of fear of the consequences. If there are no consequences they’re quick to realise that and stop caring what they say or how they say it. I’ve seen forums with no moderation of any kind and believe me it was horrible.
But the community counts for a lot too. I was part of one for years where all the forums only had (and only needed) one rule: Treat other people the way you want to be treated. They didn’t need a great long list of rules or much moderation because it attracted the type of people who were already inclined to be civil towards each other and the type of discussions that didn’t lead to big arguments. Even when people didn’t get along they’d usually just avoid commenting on each others posts and projects.
But coming back to GW2 specifically I do also think Anet has helped encourage that type of community through the game they’ve created. In-game other players showing up is almost always a good thing. At worst they’ll do their own thing while you do yours, at best they’ll help you and make the game easier and/or more fun.
You never have to worry about kill stealing, actual stealing, ganking, etc. etc. so there’s less reasons to be annoyed at other players and that keeps everyone in a better mood towards one another.
Of course some people will still be abusive no matter what, but that’s where the bannings come in useful.

You are quite welcome, I will make sure and pass on your appreciation to the teams concerned.
For the most part we wouldn’t be able to do anything if it wasn’t for the community itself, they, the denizens of the different home worlds are the source of welcoming warmth when you login. They look after their own little slice of Guild Wars 2 and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Cheers for taking the time explaining this for my oakhead
Well, I never played Star trek Online…mmh…
The only thing I can say about this, is that my ignore list got more entries in GW2 than I had in any other MMO I played combined (except GW1).
It was similar in GW1 and interestingly those are the only “F2P” games (okok B2P to be exact here) I played…all others where subscription based and there I barely felt having to use the ignore function.
Having said this, most people I meet in GW2 are friendly, helpful and ready for fun!
Majority of my ignores are from the first months after release, a good portion of them from WvW folks.
New ignores are actually rare, so this could be an indication of the good work from customer service/moderators working on reports in general.
Also, maybe most of those unfriendly players where unhappy with the game in the frist place and projected that to others ingame (human nature) and now they don’t play anymore….its probably a mixture of both.
Anyways…I sort of agree I guess

I for one think that you are wasting your time hating on the game. Seriously, your last 200 comments are entirely negative about every aspect of the game. If you don’t like it, you may as well leave instead of spreading a negative attitude , wasting both your and other people’s time.

You are not allowed to discuss forum moderation. What we are discussing here is ingame chat moderation.
You are not allowed to discuss forum moderation. What we are discussing here is ingame chat moderation.
Also its not really discussing it .. it was more a praise of the moderation.
So if the tread was about :
- you have banned me because i said ****, thats unfair .. blabla
that would more fall into the “not allowed” category i think
Well I don’t know.
We are in the Guild Wars 2 Discussion forum and the titel states obviously, that this topic is about moderation.
Looks like a discussion about moderation to me… ^^
I think the rule is more that you’re not allowed to discuss specific moderator decisions. You can’t create a topic to ask why another topic was closed or to debate whether it was the right decision. (And I suspect that’s partially because the inevitable result will be that the original discussion will start up again and the new topic will have to be closed for the same reason.)
Likewise you can’t make a topic on the forum to ask why someone was banned or suspended in game.
But there have been topics discussing moderation in general terms before. For example asking for clarification on what different rules mean.
At this point people actually really discuss about moderation, shouldn’t this thread be closed?
I for one appreciate the efforts ANet has put in to making the game and game chat clean and friendly. Keep up the good work.
I gotta agree. It is pretty nice how quickly issues in chat are handled.
Block, report, and never worry again :P
