“With the launch of this new system, December will be the last month to include monthly achievements. The monthly achievements provided larger goals to players but were still fairly generic and repetitive, and they don’t fit well with the new reward paradigm. Because some of you have already made progress on your monthlies, we will leave them in for this final month, allowing you to earn bonus laurels.”

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! My Daily Section looks so lonely without the Monthly… It wasn’t a grind or anything, you had a whole month to do it! Bad move Anet, I love the new daily system, but you killed monthly achievies

Yes it has gone, which has been known about for a while.

Clearly not known by all until now anyway. Sorry I don’t read every news post. Not sure why anyone would be happy about the removal of the Monthly… Its a sad New Years Day

They did put it on the login page as well, although I do appreciate people don’t always read them.

There’s nothing to be sad about losing the monthly though. You haven’t lost anything since the rewards and AP are merged into the new system. I believe the calculations I read on the forums showed players being better off.

Too bad, Daily and Monthly AP still not merged. I logged in this morning (GMT +7) and hoped to finally get some daily AP again since I’ve hit Daily AP caps for months.

Negative you are wrong… The old Daily gave you 1 AP per and there was 10 of them which is the same as what we have now except minus 10 Monthlies worth 10 AP each… so were looking at 100 less AP a month… 1200 less AP a year… pretty big loss… not sure how you can calculate that as a gain.

It’s a gain because the vast majority of players didn’t do all dailies daily or all monthlies monthly. If you are one of the minority, sorry, no AP soup for you.

Its a gain if you did less than 6 of the dailies each day. I usually did them 8-10 of them each day along with many other players. Not sure how you can say what minority and majority… don’t call it a gain, do some simple math.

Why not just change the monthly also into the new system. “complete 4 monthlies and get 100Ap”…wait, that’s too easy ;p

Wow, so every 5 months I’m losing out on an achievement chest. That’s… yeah. Big loss. Ahem. Or something. I guess. If the number going up motivates you, maybe.

If you did enough that the change in systems is a loss in points for you, then odds are good that it’s a gain in time saved for you. I think that was the plan, anyway. You would either get a better chance at more points, or you’d need to spend less time getting points.

If this change was actually a “loss” for you then you are probably well on your way to the Daily (account lifetime) AP hard cap…you really don’t lose much in the long run it just allows those who didn’t have time to do all the dailies/monthlies a chance to catch up.

Personally I’m fine with the changes. I’m one of those players that don’t care too much about the AP number. Sure, it’s nice to get those achievement chests, but they are not the driving force in how I play the game. I realize there are leaderboards for the AP, but that’s a cruel device to keep people playing. It’s not a substitute for quality content especially with so many players screwed out of all that temporary content of past years. That is a lot of AP they will never hope to get.

I’ve got just under 4000 AP to go before I reach the cap for dailies of 10,000. That should take me… oh about another year at best. After that I will only do daily for laurels, and I’m ok with this, because AP is overrated if not for the achievement chests.

Hopefully after a player hits the cap and stops getting AP from dailies, ArenaNet implements something for the player to receive in lieu of AP. Maybe a bit of coin or a chunk of xp or something.

Give us more GW 1 weapon and armor skins, please. COPY/PASTE ALREADY!!!!

The sloppy way in which this change was introduced is baffling.

They “removed” monthlies but it still says “dailies and montlies” in the cheevo panel, and there’s still a “monthly” bar in the character select screen. They didn’t even bother cleaning it up.

It’s reminiscent of how they butchered the Personal story, deleted an entire story arc, and then didn’t change the other missions so it would make sense.

This ^^

Another poorly planned, buggy, uncalled for change that leaves the game messy and confusing.

They must have some really forgiving bosses, or the bosses have no idea what is actually going on… I would have been fired from my job for something this sloppy.

Would monthly even make sense with the new daily system, considering 3 daily achieves gives 10ap each day, and login rewards give the luck, laurels, coins that monthly rewarded. Although its definately understandable people are upset over losing something to work on every month, maybe it could have been tweaked.

Since it came out mid month, they left December’s up. I don’t see an issue with that since it let those who were working toward that monthly whole month to complete it. There would be more shouts if it went bye-bye mid month.

Another case of kitten if they do, kitten if they don’t.

Edit: And it wasn’t confusing. What’s confusing about “here’s the new system, the old monthly is vanishing at the end of the month”?

I find that the monthlies having been dropped disincentivizes me from doing certain things I would’ve done in the past.

When I see an event notification pop up, and it’s an event I don’t particularly like, I used to participate anyway, because I got a cookie when I finished 25/50/75/100 events. Even when I got to 100 for the month, I still participated, out of habit.

Now, I find myself thinking “why bother?” more often than not. The vast majority of events are hardly worth the time it takes to complete them, and after having done them quite often over the years, many have gotten stale. I just run along to wherever I was going.

The same goes for jumping puzzles. I just run past now, where I would usually do them if I hadn’t done particular ones that month. With jumping puzzles completely gone from the periodic achievement picture, I suspect they’ll see a lot less people complete them. Some are especially uninteresting now, as they don’t even have chests at the end. For example, I used to do Wall Breach Blitz at least once a month. I regularly visit the Diessa Plateau to get iron and tussle with the giant. When I got near the Blitz, I’d complete it if I hadn’t done it for the month or joined in if I saw some people struggling up there. Yesterday, I ran past with that old “why bother” feeling.

Also, all the WvW I’ve been doing lately has been to creep up on unsuspecting dolyaks and deserted ruins. Killing invaders has lost much of what little appeal it had left for me.

In short, I feel disincentivized from doing certain content now. Part of that is definitely the annoyance of not being rewarded for it anymore while I was before. On top of all the other things I used to enjoy that have been eroded over the last year, the game is losing more and more appeal to me.

Event participation is a very valid point and I think Anet should look into that. One easy way would be to give more (useful) uses for Karma than just Obsidian Shards and gearing alts with their first exotic set (both pretty valid uses alright).

Jumping Puzzles are also a bit “left out” now after you’ve done them all. Empyreal fragments drop like crazy from the bandit chests, so much that they had to introduce a fragment eating item like they did for the Bloodstone dust. Previously JPs and open world chests were one of the main ways of getting the frags if you didn’t like dungeons, and of course to get the 12 unique ones in a month for the monthly. Now, I can’t really figure out any valid reasons for doing JPs except for the heck of it.

Keep in mind the monthly was still intact for December since the patch was mid-month. There hasn’t been an update yet for January, has there. Hence, the monthly panel is still there because it’s only the 2nd day of the month. Settle down people. So quick to jump on the blame wagon when things are working perfectly as intended. The new monthly is way better and you get much better rewards for it, and all you have to do to enjoy these rewards is log in.

“Every time a bell rings, someone asks about the monthly.” Seriously, every 2 minutes someone in map chat freaks out about there not being a monthly. Been away? That’s fine, though most people when they decide to come back to a game check out the latest patch notes to see if things have changed. I forget how forgetful I am sometimes, people don’t know how to read patch notes. They’d rather complain about stuff that is perfectly written out for them in explanation.
