Monthly pvp laurels
Yeah I’m kitten about this too. Now I’m 10 days behind everyone else for being proactive. I understand they might not be able to track when everyone completed monthlies, but at the very least they could have patched it out right away to limit the amount of people getting an unfair advantage, but it seems they didn’t even do that. Thanks a lot anet.

Oh thanks for the info, I will try to do the PvP monthly in the next 3 days…eek…
What about next month?
If I do both monthlys will I get 20 laurels or restricted to 10 still…
It seems a good way of getting more people to do PvP…
It sucks. I did both monthlies before the patch. They should email those who did both monthlies before patch 10 laurels. I don’t mind people getting one laurel from daily, but 10? That’s a week and a half worth of laurels.
Whhhhhhat? Omg.
Why do they continue to fail in so much with these updates. People are being rewarded (greatly) for procrastinating. Brilliant.
So now I can do PVP monthly to get additional 10 laurels on top of PVE monthly?
No, you can get the laurels by doing EITHER the PvP OR the PvE achivements. Not both.

Some said due to the patch resetting some things, they got additional 10 Laurels from PVP on top of the 10 Laurels they’ve already gotten from PVE. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Going forward, this will indeed be the case. However, the situation described in the OP is accurate.
For those of you who dont know, the monthly pvp achivement gives you +10 laurels now and if you are like me, and did the monthly before this patch you will miss out on the laurels for this month. So why is Anet rewarding people who didn’t do their monthly before this patch with the 10 laurels.
Why can’t you just make it so you only get laurels for the upcoming month, just like when the laurels system was introduced! This is really unfair Anet!

Wait, so you’re not complaining that you get less laurels, but that others get more? Wow, this takes egoism to a whole new level. Reminds me of this.
Hasn’t this been fixed now? Some said you could get a second daily laurel from PVP if you had already done the standard one before the patch, tried it, did not get a second laurel late last night. So maybe the monthly won’t double reward you either anymore.
I think this has been fixed now, but it is pretty lame that people who had already completed the PvP monthly didn’t get a chance at these 10 laurels.
If you managed to squeeze in the PvP monthly before this got fixed – grats. If you didn’t do the PvP monthly when you had the chance, even though you might not have known that it would’ve netted you 10 additional laurels, then consider it an opportunity missed. If you already had the PvP monthly done and didn’t even get the chance at these 10 laurels, then you’re just SOL.

So on patch day, if you had already done your daily for PVE, before the daily reset that evening, you could do the PVP daily and get the extra laurel. Once the daily reset happened (on patch day evening), you can only get the laurel once for PVE or PVP in future dailies, and thats it.
However in the case of the MONTHLY, until the end of this month, you are in a state similar to where the daily was for that 6 hour stretch. The game has not recognized you have compelted the PVE daily or the PVP daily, so if you do one or the other you can get your 10 laurels. Once you have those 10, you cannot do the other to get 10 more.
HOWEVER, in the case of people who had either PVP or PVE monthly done BEFORE the patch, but not BOTH, they can now do whichever is still available and get 10 more laurels. It isn’t fixed as far as I know, and it seemed to work yesterday.

It hasn’t been “fixed” nor will it be. It’s similar to what we saw in January and February.
January: The daily was changed (laurels added). If you did the daily before the patch, then you could do the daily again after the patch and get a laurel for that day only (and a second jug of karma and mystic coin).
February: The daily was changed (rotation added). If you did the daily before the patch, it reset with the patch due to the change and you could do it again after, allowing you to get 2 laurels, jugs of karma, and mystic coins for that day only.
March: PvP daily/monthly changed to allow you to get laurels from either the PvP or the PvE daily/monthly, but not both. Tracking system is added with the update. Therefore, if you did the PvE daily, but not the PvP daily before the update, you were able to do the PvP daily to get a second laurel. Similarly, if you did the PvE monthly before the update but not the PvP monthly, then you are able to do the PvP monthly and get 10 laurels.
This will almost definitely not be “fixed” but rather is only something that happened on the 26th for the daily and in March for the monthly. In April you will only be able to get 10 laurels either from the PvE or the PvP monthly.

Exactly. People shouldn’t have got a week and a half worth of “ascended progress” just because they were too lazy to do their monthly before patch, but all hurried to do it as soon as this bug, exploit or whatever it is, got known. It’s really lame and imo they should either remove the laurels from those who got them without deserving them, or give everyone else a chance to get them too.
Do people really care that someone got 10 laurels, if someone getting 1 item a week-and-a-bit before you is enough to rage you need to get out more.
You aren’t going to autolose in wvw to someone with 1 more ascended piece than you.
Some said due to the patch resetting some things, they got additional 10 Laurels from PVP on top of the 10 Laurels they’ve already gotten from PVE. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Basically, the GW2 servers make use of daily and monthly resetting counters for various things. The most obvious are the ones that track number of completed sub-dailies and sub-monthlies as they are shown. But there exists other ones as well, such as a daily counter for megaboss kills.
After this patch, there now exists a new “Number of monthly achievements
completed” counter.
But since the counter didn’t exist before the patch, it would automatically be set to 0 after the patch. Hence when someone completes the PvP monthly achievement after the patch it would get increased to 1, and they would get awarded 10 laurels for “first monthly achievement completion”.
I think this has been fixed now, but it is pretty lame that people who had already completed the PvP monthly didn’t get a chance at these 10 laurels.

Pretty much exactly this ^^
It is only a problem for the next 2 days, then you’ll never have to worry about it. I know i’m never going to get 3 tournament wins by the end of the month so i’m not letting it bother me.
3 tournament wins is 3 5v5 tourney matches. It will literally take you less than an hour.
I think this “bug” should be a regular thing for all months. Basically, have each of PvP and PvE monthlies reward 10 laurels every month, for a total of 20 if you do both. As a WvW/PvE player, I normally ignore SPvP and TPvP, but with this laurel reward I was actually incentivized to do it, and went in, won some tourneys, and had a good time. If it stayed this way, I think it’d be a good thing for the SPvP and TPvP communities.
If i may suggest: go outside in the evening and take a long, deep look in to the night sky. Imagine now, that all thouse stars you see are Laurels that you would be abel to get in the future.
You might see now that 10 Laurels that you missed out on, is nothing compare to what’s out there, ahead of you.
I don’t see how this is relevant? You could make the same argument and say 100 laurels (cause there is stil thousands more stars than that), or even 1000, would you still not care then?
Do people really care that someone got 10 laurels, if someone getting 1 item a week-and-a-bit before you is enough to rage you need to get out more.
You aren’t going to autolose in wvw to someone with 1 more ascended piece than you.
Sigh.
1) yes obviously some ppl care or threads like this wouldn’t exist
2) I did not rage, dunno how making a forum post is somehow equal to raging
3) No I am not going to autolose to someone with 1 more ascended piece. But it does matter. In fact, it matters more than any amount of WvW ranks, since those don’t affect PvP damage and ascended items do. I calculated it through for my current build, and upgrading those 6 jewels to ascended would give almost 10% dmg increase. This is significant, and therefore laurels are too, and shouldn’t be handed out unfairly so easily.

With all of this confusion, I’m trying to figure out what the current max total is for laurels. I’m sitting at 91 (92 tonight after reset) right now. This is including the 2 patch day bonus daily laurels from previous patches, as well as the 10 monthly bonus laurels from doing the PvP daily this month after the patch. I have not missed a daily or monthly yet. Does anyone know if this is the current max total? Your post seems to help confirm this.
Can’t believe there is still no official word on this. Lazy programming like this has no place in a so-called “AAA” mmo, and this fluke should have been addressed immediately. Would it seriously be so hard to wait until the start of April to implement the monthly counter? The lack of foresight is mind-boggling, and the lack of response even more so. I’m losing faith in the developers of this game, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I think you missed one. That’s the same number I have (well, 31 and 2 amulets) and I missed the daily pvp bonus one on patch day this month but have gotten all of daily and monthly ones.

A lot of the people who got the extra 10 laurels don’t pvp. So they were not likely to have completed it this month.

There’s single game tournaments which are exactly the same as the random games.

Ok thanks. =) So if there was one bonus pvp patch day laurel, that should mean that the absolute cap is now 93 (With tonight’s reset.)
I can confirm if you haven’t done your PvP monthly yet and do it before 1st of April, you get +10 laurels.
Did the monthly last night, took 4 hours.
Hardest bit is the 3 tournement wins, best off jumping in there straight away and getting them, then switch to the easier play now mode and sooner or later job done…you may die often and get called names by your team mates but water off a ducks back to me…
And here I am, completing the monthly PvP achievement 2 hours before the patch…I’m a genius.
I will also confirm that this was not fixed. I did this last night and well had a blast doing it. Was never really into tpvp but i think i ‘ll play around a bit more now. Thing is i know this probably wasn’t “intentional” and yes it sucks for Pvpers who already had it done, but I personally think A Net needs to make it like this for every monthly and not an either/or reward. Tpvp is an underplayed part on gw2 and that anything that brings in so many players to it can’t be a bad thing.
(edited by Ballads.2509)
always a lot of people lose time and get less thing cause of these patch always is like my guild we always make monthy in the first week…..
Like the karka event…
Yeah i also got angry that i couldn’t get those 10 extra laurels just because i support spvp since the beginning and had that monthly done (and the pve one) before the patch , and even if it was an error it leaves the rest that didn’t had the opportunity to get more laurels in a bitter situation…i also contacted support for giving me this but they say they can’t and pointed me to make a suggestion about it in forums…lawl…
Anet reward the 10 laurels to those that did the monthlies before the patch!
Just did it, didn’t get anything, they fixed it. It’s like they don’t even test their patches, they just bring them and hope for the best and put some quick hotfixes after, like this.
What annoys me is that I don’t even like s/tPvP because I find it an unsatisfying, broken mode of play and yet people who are procrastinating on their monthly are getting extra PvE currency on top of their normal monthly? Really? And people are completing it just now because they know they can exploit the patch. Wow.
This “glitch” has resulted in what is probably the best burst of activity that SPvP has ever seen since the game’s release. Seriously, they should consider letting us earn 20 laurels a month if we do both monthlies forever more.
I am pretty annoyed that because i play both aspects of the game i missed out.
My guild is almost entirely PVE players yet all went to do the monthly pvp the last few days, many who never played an spvp match before. All are getting 10 days worth of laurels for free :-(
Just did it, didn’t get anything, they fixed it. It’s like they don’t even test their patches, they just bring them and hope for the best and put some quick hotfixes after, like this.
I had the same experience. I finished my PvP monthly yesterday and did NOT get any extra laurels…I had already finished my PvE monthly prior.
edit: It would have been brilliant if this were all some ploy to get more ppl into spvp

I’d say make them PvP laurels usable on PvP gear. One shouldn’t get any sort of PvE/WvW advantage from playing PvP because they are separate.
PvP gear will never change; the only changes that may come with time is new skins.
That said, having a PvE/WvW benefit to playing SPvP is exactly what the game needs to encourage more of their admittedly massive PvE/WvW playerbase to get involved in SPvP more consistently and thus make that a more populated and enjoyable experience for everyone. Really, it’s win-win (PvE/WvW players get more laurels, SPvP players get far more opponents, queue diversity, rating diversity, and rank diversity).
A lot of us don’t want to get involved in sPvP because of the sort of players it has. Make sPvP anonymous so that I don’t have to deal with all of the trash talking an inane posturing, and maybe I’ll actually want something other than to see the sPvP players safely quarantined in their box. >_>
If people want laurels for PvE/WvW, shouldn’t they be doing those sorts of activities? If anything I’d rather see laurels awarded for WvW achievements, especially with culling fixed, rather than sPvP.
(edited by Sil.4560)
So don’t get involved! Just because something rewards a laurel doesn’t mean you have to pursue it for that laurel. Consider how you’ll feel a year from now with something like 300 laurels at your disposal and only so much to spend them on. You’re not “falling behind” by missing some added currency, you’re only progressing slower, which is okay.
Regardless of how you or I feel, the point of the game is to ‘play-your-way’, and be rewarded for it. Even if it’s not perfect now, I think encouraging the PvE/WvW players into SPvP (even if, obviously, not everyone will do it) is great and expands the player base of that community. Sure they should be rewarded for PvE/WvW stuff, and they are already! The point is to incentivize a style of play they might not otherwise ever consider, and that’s a good thing.
A year from now I’d still be saving them to spend on ascended crap because of the outrageous prices to outfit all of my alts. So being able to do that in any reasonable amount of time would force me into sPvP. >_>
Meh, I’ve had enough of this game trying to force me into a certain mode of play for specific rewards with fractals. If they implement additional laurels into sPvP, they’ll likely just jack the prices up to compensate, since Anet doesn’t like us to have nice things. I’m a-okay with a huge percentage of players sticking with PvE/WvW because it’s the mode of play that demands larger numbers of players to function.

Meh, I’ve had enough of this game trying to force me into a certain mode of play for specific rewards with fractals.
This is flawed logic, and let me explain why.
You’d be on the same time frame you are on currently no matter what, and if they added more ways to get them, nothing would have to change about your current rate of acquisition. The only change is the requirement that you place on yourself to get them as fast as possible that would “force” you to play some part of the game you’re disinterested in. The real culprit here is you, not ANet!
The issue is that you insist on some super-speed time frame to gear out your alts, when the reality is that ascended gear makes so little difference (And honestly, you don’t even need more than 25 AR for the current max level of FotM if you’re a good player. Seriously, I run 5 AR in FotM 48 on one alt and never die except to Maw) that the time frame shouldn’t matter. Don’t let yourself be driven by your desire to get everything in the game as fast as possible and you’ll find yourself:
- A lot less bothered by the speed at which you get things.
- A lot more free to play the game you want to play and enjoy the content you want to enjoy.
It makes the whole ordeal a lot more enjoyable, and I can say that from experience.
lol, flawed logic, applied to what, my subjective preference at not wanting to wait a year to outfit some characters in a game? You forget that no matter what length of time I spend on the game, depending on what gear or items I have in a potentially faster amount of time, my experience during that time as a whole will change. That’s pretty condescending; I don’t need some guy on a forum trying to preach to me about logic.
If your logic were half as good as you seem to believe, you’d stop your incessant argument to get players to play sPvP because, according to your mentality, they should not “have” to play it for the laurels but should already be intrinsically motivated. Looks like the real culprit here is you for not enjoying the way sPvP is currently, rather than attempting to drag other people into it with laurel rewards that you yourself say shouldn’t even be necessary for the “same time frame” you’ll spend on a game anyway. And why the big hurry? Shouldn’t you be waiting a year to see if more people join sPvP after the much needed balance fixes?
Anyway, I’m not on a super time frame, I just don’t want to have to wait a kitten year to outfit my characters with some stat increases. I don’t have the patience to argue with people who insist on dragging this into some mental chest beating contest over “flawed logic” when they can’t even get their own straight. l8r

Shame you took offense rather than trying to see the value in what I said. Either way, good luck on your own time frame in whatever you do.
a-net plz fix this! or give us our laurels back (did my montly almost a month ago -.-)
Shame you took offense rather than trying to see the value in what I said. Either way, good luck on your own time frame in whatever you do.
It’s so difficult to teach people the meaning of “choice” and the driving force for making those choices. I too enjoy my game alot more when I don’t think about other people being “ahead of me” by such negligible stat differences. I pride myself in doing fractals with 0 AR at lvl 48 without gettin hit by agony until maw.
THANK YOU A-NET!
Now I do not have to mindlessly grind 100 Events anymore for my 10 Monthly laurels. Instead I can have some fun sPvP matches and get them. Cheers.
So are we getting our 10 laurels or not?
It was the very FIRST month I decided to do my sPvP monthly for whatever reason and guess what… I shouldn’t have before this update…

Nah, they are actually making it a lot worse, now many noobs joined tournaments and had no idea where they are or what to do.
Everyone needs to start somewhere. Hopefully some will have had a good enough time to want to play more and improve.
