Hey

I just wanted to come by and thank you guys in A-Net for the Mordrem event we had.

I played it a bit on Friday. When our event ended, many people didn’t get a reward (me included) and the map chat just went mad. People were complaining and calling names all over the place. It was quite sad to see this, there was also an A-Net member there and it must have been horrible for him/her. I myself weren’t really bothered that there was no reward for me. I mean, come on, I come to play the game I like, and playing it is fun. I don’t need a reward for doing something I like. If you don’t like the game but play it just for rewards then you are probably burnt out, go take a break, watch some Netflix.

This brings me to why I wanted to say thanks.
Guys, A-Net added an event to the game, for free. You could play it if you wanted but you weren’t forced to do so. Don’t start swearing and calling names in map chat because you felt entitled to a reward and, oh no, you didn’t get any. Be grateful that a free update was added and play it if you enjoy content like that, or ignore it if you don’t. To be honest, the content wasn’t quite my cup of tea. When I played it a couple of times all I did was run around in zergs and kill mobs, that’s not the gameplay I enjoy. But I don’t go calling A-Net names because I didn’t enjoy the content. I payed nothing for it, I wasn’t forced to participate. I think it’s cool that they added something to the game, maybe not something I myself would enjoy, but something none the less.
I guess it kind of boils down to people taking video games too seriously. Don’t use video games to get that feeling of achievement in your life or that feeling of success. Go find a job, pick up a hobby, do charity work, whatever. These things make you feel way better at achievements than scoring a shiny sword in a video game. Video games should be a means to relax, sit back and do something fun. and I mean DOING something fun, not doing something you don’t like for a shiny reward in the end.
But maybe that’s just me, I guess everyone’s got their own opinion.

Anyway, this is getting long.
Once again, thank you A-Net for the free update.

Even as a “white knight” this doesn’t make sense to me. Many people only have so much time to play in an evening. If they spend half an hour playing events that don’t reward them, why shouldn’t they be annoyed. I’m sure Anet has no problem with people being annoyed over a bug that costs them.

Fortunately Anet was quick to fix the problem and made good by sending out the missing blooms, but that doesn’t make it less frustrating for those who felt they wasted their leisure time.

No one can say I’m not a supporter of Anet, but I’ll certainly tell them when something they do doesn’t meet my expectations.

Every mmo on the planet does “free events” regardless if it’s a payed mmo, free mmo or b2p mmo….. you talk like this is your first mmo.
Fun? You are in the minority within a minority of minorities.
Relax? i don’t see how you could relax with events poping and ending almost at the same time..and even when getting to those events, not receiving exp and loot. This event was the pinnacle of what it means to “waste time”. It’s the definition of senseless grind…..anti-socialism and leeching, the very things so called AAA mmos should stay far away from. And yes..i am completely ignoring the bugs and disconnects this event had. I don’t even care about those at this point.

I am sorry you are either trolling (which would make it a good troll) or this thread doesn’t make any sense what so ever. If anything, this event is a bad omen for the upcoming expansion. Seeing the extremely poor quality of an event they came up with, i am worried about what we will get in HoT.

Well its just a matter of what your view on gaming is then. I didn’t get a reward but I didn’t feel like I wasted my time. Because I didn’t do the event for the reward. I did it to check it out, see what it is about and if I like it. Wasn’t my cup of tea so I left after a couple of events. Had it all worked fine and I had gotten the reward, I would have still left. I don’t play this for rewards, I play it to have fun. And if the experience isnt fun then I wont play it, regardless of the rewards. Also, this is the reason why I still don’t have a legendary

Edit, to Rebound:
It doesn’t matter if others do it free or not. The fact that this event being added to this game didn’t impact my well being in no way what so ever means that even if it’s bad, I have no reason to complain. Its not like I lost something, I just gained less than usual.
Also, you may have misread but I said that I myself didn’t enjoy the event. But even then, that doesn’t mean I should complain.
Also, I love it how you instantly think I’m trolling.

The very fact you left after just checking it out (in an event that was tailored to keep you there) is a testament to how much it failed. As you said it was a 1-time-event at best.

Do you take that same attitude to everything in life Rebound?
So you’d say Faust by Goethe for example, is a failure because YOU don’t enjoy or have interest in it? That’s just closed minded.

I agree that becoming belligerent and throwing profanities about is an immature and shameful way to express an opinion, no matter how passionate one may be about it.

I don’t agree about being grateful though. Offering something for free, while being a nice gesture, is not the sole basis for gratitude. You certainly wouldn’t be grateful if someone offered to cook you lunch for free and served you food they knew you were allergic to, would you?

In this case ANet offered a free event that encouraged leeching (only way to get 20 stacks is through hit and run, getting 20 stacks in all three maps only gives you 15 extra blooms, but that can save you three hours), punished people for having poor connections (they even managed to make it worse than usual by rewarding based on tiers rather than individual participation), and rendered Kill Effects worthless – all issues that have been complained about individually in different events, yet here we have something that managed to hit all three sour notes at once.

I don’t want to be overly harsh, I do recognize it’s a nice gesture, but the only thing I’m grateful for is that it’s over.

No..i only take that attitude to things that are of very poor quality. I am not part of the wave of customers that accept anything shoved down their throats with a “clueless” smile. If “Faust by Goethe” would be a failure i would say it’s a failure. If it doesn’t interest me i would specifically say it doesn’t interest me..not that it’s a failure. There’s a major difference. You yourself don’t know exactly the difference between them if you put them in the same context.

The fact that you brainlessly swallow everything around you as being something good with some kind of “flower power” mission behind it as if “everything received is a gift from god and should be appreciated kitten”, i will never be part of that. I own a product. A product that i pay for in gems ingame and in the for of expansions. I expect that product to have quality. The kind of “quality” i ask for is not something uncommon.

I am not the one with a closed mind here. If you look at the bigger picture, you are. Saying “everything is ok..let’s hold hands” (when it’s CLEARLY not the case) has never…NEVER lead to advancement and improvement..instead it always lead to stagnation or in some cases even regression…regardless if it’s a game or something else. If you want something to progress…point out when they kitten up….in order to stimulate a change into the better and applaud when they show something worth applauding….but don’t start applauding for every thing they do regardless if it’s terrible or good because in time quality will drop even more. It’s called “giving credit where credit’s due”

If you want to choose to see the world through a pink lense where even if something is not ok, that’s your decision and your decision alone..but as you see you are in a minority…i don’t see a hoard of ppl here making poetry like you did for ANet’s event..and i am happy it’s that way. We prefer progress over stagnation and regression. If we have to “start wars” for that we will “start wars”.

Next time…instead of using examples you heard of while in the toilet on the radio or a loud TV set on discovery, in order to try insulting someone who was talking (good or bad) about “the subject” and not about “the person who opened the subject”, you could actually come with your own facts on why you think this event was so good…like actual facts….pointing them. That’s how you hold your “theory”…not just throw some BS “Faust by Goethe”, aiming basically at nothing constructive..nothing that would defend your POV…..and nothing that would make you look smarter then a kid on wikipedia/google.
