More Elder Dragons without an Expansion?
I’d rather get all those things WITHOUT having to spend $80-100. They wanna try and give it to me for free… why the hell would I complain?
Eh…
While I’d certainly like an expansion, I wouldn’t pay $80-$100 for it, or anywhere near that much. Depending on the size of the expansion, I might pay $50 if I’m really, really impressed, but too high and I start looking at my backlog of other games to play, games that are going unplayed largely because of GW2’s stream of free content.
There are certainly good arguments in favor of an expansion, but I find some pretty compelling arguments for the Living Story. I wouldn’t say one is completely better than the other, but for now, I’m all right with continuing the LS and seeing where it goes and what Anet can do with it.
I would be willing to pay 80-100 for it. The LS updates have sucked lately.
The idea that there is a consumer base willing to drop $80-100 on a product because they think the previous product sucked…
… kitten it. Brain broke.

I think it’s more that the consumers(Me included) would pay that much for an expansion to get rid of the LS approach because we feel that sucks(my opinion don’t freak out). I myself love most parts of the game including combat, WvW, dungeons, cosmetic progression, but I also feel that because of the lack of time given for each LS update most of those things have been thrown out the window for quick and easy content that will make people log in once a day and go straight to the gemstore.
Unstable Shield, Unstable Light
Favoring expansion for many reasons.
You can complete it at your own pace. The devs have much more time to think things through and develop higher quality content. These 2 week story chunks give us not that good content which done by ppl once in the first few days then abandoned. Then it’s thrown out and we probably never see it again(except festivals or returning wanderers like the Zephyr Sanctum). I’d use LS because the basic idea is good but only as a bridge beetwen expansions expanding the story where it ended.
40-60$ I’d pay, so long as it has a plethora of new content.
Queen Of Macabre – 80 Thief
Dragonbrand [Ankh]

That reminds me of War in kryta/Winds of change in GW1. Really enjoyed those.
They would have to make some amazing content to get me to buy it, with a Guildwars 1 direction, and ascended removed… just saying.
Living Story is horrible, I’d much rather see them release expansion – Cantha.
I hope we will see an Elder Dragon without a paid expansion. Players are supporting the game via gem store in a very strong way. Why should they pay twice? After the launch in China Arenanet has enough resources to start an expansion via LW in Spring/Summer 2014.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if they were working on at least parts of an expansion already, may have been for some time. Considering the numerous statements of “we have larger projects going on in the background that we’re not ready to talk about.” However, they are wise to not say anything until it’s basically ready simply due to the bile spewed by their player base. (Seen the uproar about craftable precursors not making the end of the year deadline lately?)
Personally I like the living world stuff. I don’t think it’s perfect, and I’d like to see them do more with it (multiple events at a time for example), but I still enjoy it. I think they could very easily use it to lead us into the next chunks of personal story, the next big dragon showdown. However, they need time to get all that content done. The game code, the cinematics, the voice acting, etc. All of which would be being done while the living story and other content is also being done. Makes for some hectic shedules and lots of juggling. Not to mention, large code bases can sometimes be a bit of a kitten to try to merge even with the best versioning options, and testing can be a nightmare.
Think about it… why would they spend thousands of hours develping new zones, new races, new combat, new gear, new skills, etc… All for a measly $50…
when people are more than happy to spend $200+ gambling on a weapon skin that takes a maximum of 20 minutes to make…
Or a gathering tool that took maybe 10 minutes to make and costs $15…
They would be losing money at a horrific rate if they devoted people to making an expansion over cheap reskins of things we already have.

If 4 months’ lead-time is not enough for each Living Story/World release, then we must consider how much time it will take to release a big project such as what might be included in an expansion-type release. Perhaps, the ‘big release’ will come in a year or so. =)

Yeah. Almost as if they are nuts to have spent thousands of hours making a game for 60 bux. Would be so horrifically dumb of them to use the existing base to expand on, while still doing the gem shop stuff. Almost as if they development teams and the fluff teams were separate divisions. Oh wait…. they are
that depends… if I pay 40 dollars for an expansion (don’t be ridiculous expansions are never over the original box prize, it makes no sense) and get Scarlet as the story I would’ve asked for a refund. The tower is amazing but the story behind with scarlet as main villain is horrible. I wouldn’t pay to get something like that.
It seems blindingly obvious that they are not even speculating on adding an expansion at this time. The content that an expansion would add is instead being added in the living story (though, some of the content is temporary, while some is permanent).
Would Love it if they made Zhaithan a spectacular and epic fight first.
Feels like we didn’t get closure back in Orr with that forgettable fight… Never once felt in that path that “This is it!”
Once they’ve done that, I’d be absolutely thrilled to see another awesome Elder Dragon to slay.
Cred to Latinkuro
Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…

Who needs elder dragons when you can have spoiled teenagers crashing parties.
