More current weapon skills before utility!

The Problem
We need more skills, but not utility skills…weapon skills for the CURRENT weapons.

While I agree that we do need more weapons in the game for it being 1 1/2’ish years old. We need a revamp of the weapons system first, closer to the one in GW1.

I don’t know how many times this has been requested but I’m here to do it again!

Weapons being tied to 5 skills, well……..it SUCKS!

I for example, LOVE power builds. I was lucky enough that D/D for my main thief turned out to be a good stealth, power weapon.

On the other hand, I alt a Warrior and I love dual wield weapons in general. Dual axes are cool, and its pretty heavily power based, nice. PUMP THE BRAKES!!!!

I can’t dual wield axes because axe 5 completely and utterly SUCKS, and is a huge dps loss. Of course, I could just ignore this and kitten myself on purpose, but I just can’t do that.

Also, for Warrior I see I have the option for dual swords. STOPPPPPPP!!!!

I can’t dual wield swords because they are heavy on condition damage, I could still run a power build on them, but I would be taking a big hit in dps, and purposely gimping myself. Automatically out the window, even though dual wielding a fiery dragon sword and icy dragon sword is my dream come true.

An Opinionated Solution
I think we need to add more skills to the weapons themselves, and let us do a pick and choose type method, more along the lines of GW1.

In GW1, for those who don’t know. Weapons had a plethora of skills, as is the case for the Axe for Warriors.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Axe_attack

However, you could not use that attack unless you had that weapon equipped.

Hypothetically if GW2, had this same table for the Axe Weapon table, and lets make elites your 5 slot for that weapon, 3 if you can’t use it as an off hand…..

for a power build i could take:
Executioner’s Strike(Raw Dmg),Keen Chop(Raw Dmg),Penetrating Chop(Armor Pen Chop), Furious Axe(Raw Dmg, Off chance effect), Decapitate(Raw Dmg)

Condi Build:
Dismember(Garaunteed Deep Wounds Condi), Axe Rake(Apply Cripple), Axe Twist(Apply weakness), Lacerating Chop(Bleed if KD), Eviscerate(DMG, Deep Wounds)

then there are AoE skills and interrupts(traded off for KD and stun in gw2?) that you can interweave in there if you want

now i get to use the weapon i want + the skin I want…

they don’t even have an excuse because they came up with 20 skills for each weapon for the elementalist, albeit, tied to attunements…….however the only drawback is with this class….since elementalists have such an abundance of skills and access to power+condi+CC+AoE within a weapon already….there are 2 problems:

1. Why would elementalist’s need more skills? What do we give them so they don’t feel lonely with every other class getting more skills? We can’t give them more weapons because the other classes start crying(even though other classes have significantly more weapons choices, except maybe engineer), what do we give them?

2. If we would add more skills per each weapons attunement and let them pick and choose for each attunement, how do you deal with someone just having 20 straight power based skills, other than nerfing the damage into the ground for each spell, but then penalizing others who put CC and some condi into their build?

that is a problem for Anet to figure out, as I can’t do everything for them!

this fixes some things for you Anet!

- Build Diversity
- Sell more skins since people get to use weapons they wanted to but couldn’t use
- could bring back the skill cap system from GW1 to capture or maybe “learn” those elite weapon attacks
- delay the time table for having to add new resources to add new weapons
- combat being fun again along with the unknowing of what build a person is running in PvP based on seeing what weapon he is using
- weapons getting boring, switch from condi to power and play a different way but with ur same favorite weapon

GW2 needs hell of time to keep up with GW1.

GW1 warrior skills : 140
GW2 warrior skills : umm 39? with every possible weapon combination.

it is sad but true…..

the one thing i can say about this game, that i can’t really say about others….is Anet is stubborn about what they put into the game….they do listen though as was the case with that light fire armor

it doesn’t even feel like a game for the fans….

Fans want X
Anet also wants X
X is added to the game

Fans want Y
Anet doesn’t want Y
Y isn’t added to the game

it makes no sense…you want your game to sell, and for your fans to be happy so they keep playing the game and buying gems…..but they don’t add what the fans want, only what they want…..it seems like lose-lose situation

all i can hope for is that the “Features Only” patches that will roll out after the end of Scarlets saga include this………………………………………..and hopefully Tengu

Perhaps they should add a system with three paths for each weapon. 1 offensive, 2 middle path, 3 defensive. then let the player choose for each slot what path they want.

For example:

Elementalist picks first 3 skills to be offensive dealing some smashing dmg. Then picks def path for last 2 which are completly different from offensive path. perhaps dealing dmg debuff to enemy or buffing missile avoidance or something.

would def add diversity amongst players since not all only wants to play dps only.
