More explorable maps instead of this story
The problem is over 3 million people started this game at once, I would venture to say at least 1 million more have joined since. That means that those people from start who were finished with everything in game before FF arc would simply take the week or whatever to finish that arc and be back at square one. Same thing happened with the southsun stuff, people had already “completed” the game and then finished this. I don’t speak for everyone, but as far as I can see a big problem is with rushing. Coming from games like FFXI and Aion to GW2 is much like going from advanced calculus to 7th grade math. I don’t mean to say GW2 is so easy and brainless, what I mean is that we can rush through the content unintentionally.
I came assuming I had to grind for hours, do every event etc etc. That got me to 80 in around 13 days… I had no idea it could be so easy. But it really isn’t like that for everyone, it is like that for many of us though. So these new players we need to get them to slow down, or they end up where we are. It would be much better to be on story 48 and have Living Story arc come and distract us from our regular story. Maybe we finish our personal story and dungeons after several living story arcs, and then it feels more accomplished. But because a lot of us came in thinking we had to rush to enjoy the game, we ended up only hindering ourselves. Luckily the content is there even if it is temporary to keep us going in the meantime, and daily’s/monthly’s keep us earning currency for the future.
So while I agree wholeheartedly about the need for more core content for those who have been here ,I also give them that breathing room because I brought “the end” so to speak on myself. Had I taken my time and just relaxed I could still be leveling and exploring with mid levels etc. I now find everything new at level 80, and it holds less challenge, but i suppose that’s what alts are for. In the meantime I think we just need to allow for them to use living story as a temporary fix until an expansion is ready to release for everyone’s interest. By the time it comes out the majority of the playerbase should be well into leveling and experienced in the game, then it will benefit us all much more than pushing it out at the start. Not everyone completes every aspect of the game in 1 month, but some probably can. Once we all get on the same page and just slow down a bit (as the game is free to play after purchase) I think we will find living story leading up to a large core improvement. And it won’t stop there. In the meantime many other games are coming out and GW2 allows you to leave and come back at no cost, this is another great aspect of the game and allows us to have a break and enjoy other games we love.

Off top of my mind I cant think of any other mmo that is giving away content for free, no matter how short or small it might be. They pack it in DLC/expansion and take $$ for it.
New explorable maps are alot of work, they are also material usually put into expansion. You want a free expansion every 5 months?
Stuff you ask for takes more than 5 months to be made, it takes money to make it so its hardly gonna be free every time (Southsun Cove+fractals is generous gesture from Anet).
Well, I do agree on the content thing. I missed Flame and Frost cause I prefer to take my time, but why? Why set up this thing for so long to have it come and go like that? All this stuff these last months are being missed by most cause they were not here at the right time. They should keep these things around permenantly. I doubt Im the only person who wants the Adventure Box back for good.

That is the point of the LS arcs, to keep people coming back and playing or they miss out. Everything so far could be completed with plenty of time even for those who play more slowly than others. The guides and everything make it all very easy to complete each arc quickly. Without new content and the fear of missing out on temporary rewards, people would have no reason to play. They would simply beat the core content again and stop. Living story drives people to come back and experience it, expansions are what generate more core content. But even LS does that in small ways, the world changes because of them too. So the more LS arcs we have the more tyria will change. I would guess that if you started at day 1, left for an entire year to 15 months and came back, the game would truly feel all new. And I think thats the point. It keeps evolving, it keeps changing and updating. I mean who else drops content almost monthly for us to enjoy? It is like a mini expansion every month, and we aren’t paying a dime for it.

Their idea is a living world, A living world can’t stay stagnant and the same. I kind of like the model they have going right now. You have a month or longer to do the new content, however afterwards the content will close leaving its mark on the world (not everything disappears normally) and a new arc begins, meaning we never get bored of the content because it doesn’t stick for long enough and at the same time there’s an aftermath that leaves a mark that you can remember the event by (I imagine all of those nice camps and buildings will stay in Southsun after the event).
I do hope that with expansions and new threats we will get even more massive overhauls (similar to what Blizzard did with Cataclysm).
Well, I am a very slow to go player, I like taking my time, and not feeling rushed. Thats what appeals to me about GW, since I dont pay, I dont feel rushed to play. I did most of Southsun, but I felt rushed doing it. I started Flame and Frost, did teh Charr part, but then it was over cause I waited to continue, and that upsets me. I know its supposed to be a living world, but as I do the story I still havent finished (as I said, I take my time), it doesnt feel less alive to me, why cant that be for these expansions?

because then the world would be frozen in time. You get new content, it freezes, new content, it freezes. Doesn’t sound like something very alive.
a while ago i would challenge anyone in internet arguments if he/she said the game was getting boring, now, I kinda start to agree with them. Maybe Anet should introduce more flat and open world content and not 15 minute content like last two dungeons. I think most people would prefer more explorable maps once in 5 months or so with new heart quest and puzzles and events instead of this story.
Sry that ppl rush though events? I am not sure you want longer content because then your just going to get filler content and not “fun” content. There are other mmorpg and new ones even that take a good bit of time to do things but that not because they are deep or any thing its because the makers of though games put in filler content that you MUST do to get to the next part such as farming armor to get to the next level of events.
They are not going to add in any more harts quest the main reason why the put them in this game in the first places because ppl did not know where to go to exp and level up. As for JP they HAVE added in new JP.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
All I am getting is defending the “living” part. Well…maybe I dont want a living story then. Doesnt make me any less…patient?

Then don’t do it? It is a core part of how they want their game, if you don’t like it you don’t have to do it. I doubt they will change it because it is how they wish to develop the game and its story. There are plenty of other things to do in game, and plenty of other games to enjoy. Lots of games have static, stale added content that you can repeat 1 million times for same rewards, if that’s what your in to.

I just want to be able to experience everything, but there is so much. Its not about doing it again and again, thats whats boring about Southsun. I just want it to be there for me to do it when I am ready. Main reason I cant finish the personal story is I get side tracked by something else happening in the game, but it will be there for me when I come back.

Well the core of the game will be there when you want to do it, so focusing on the LS arcs doesn’t hurt. I made a thread about repeating LS content a while ago for those who missed it or couldn’t finish the achievements, so i won’t re-post all that here :P

I dont want to repeat it though. I just need to do the Group Dungeon, but everyone is too busy farming the riots. I already have the Flower thing, and the ugly tentacle back. I just would like to finish the story before it dissapears forever… >.>

Lol don’t be scared :P Go to character screen click on world selection, then click TC or any server you want and click guest. Log in with the character you want and find a group on a populated server. Once you log out from the character you are back on your normal server. Lots of benefits in guesting, too many to list :P You really just visiting another server, you can guest to two different worlds in 24 hours. So really you could at any time be on your choice of 3 servers a day total.

Eve Online has never charged for an expansion, and they have had many (twice a year). While it is a subscription based game, you can pay for your sub with ingame currency if you wish (I havent paid for a sub in years).

Sub model doesn’t really make it sound that good.
I’ll give one thing to Eve – it’s the only new sandbox based MMO out there. I really wish that there was a medieval fantasy MMO that focused on guilds taking over the territories and battling each other to death for a chance to control more land. The only games that currently do such massive battles is Planetside 2 (but that’s completely only battle based, no PVE whatsoever, plus it’s guns only) and Eve online (but that one is spaceships battling). I want a game where I could be a mage and do the territory battling thing

Some people have set goals, they might not even be that broad. To them beating the game could mean finishing story, doing all dungeons and getting a legendary. To others it could be every title, every dye, and finishing every single aspect. So to cater to those who are only interested in some aspects as “their” game, yes in a way they feel like they finished what they were interested in.

We definitely do need more pemanent content that’s for sure.
I would also love to see them leave in the items for purchase longer because i had no idea that the mining pick would only last for 1 month (what it seemed like).
Oh gods…First it’s “Play slow, take your time”, then it’s “Hurry up and come back and finish this content”. And the LS hasn’t changed a thing in the world. And people have been singing this same song for nine months “Give it time, you’ll see, it will get better”. I was even one of those people. And these updates are not “free”. They came with the purchase price, and paid for by either players playing or buying stuff in the gem store. You purchased the game and all updates, nothing here is being given to anyone.
Seriously, do you people all work for EA? Stop with the propaganda already.

I would argue that the 60 dollar price tag was for all content at the time of release. because most games need revenue beyond box sales they are monthly subs etc. They first had to generate enough revenue to pay back the cost of the game entirely, then pay a salary to all those people every month. I doubt $60 covers that alone, and even if it did I doubt they covered anything past the first few months of the game. But I think gem store sales are what is supporting new content, to say that $60 covered ALL expenses of making the game AND ALL future content just sounds silly. Play the core story slow, do the living story when it comes, be happy with the game or move on. Suppose thats the only real advice here.

no need for more content, we need the game to change, they need to create dungeons / mechanics & skills like gw1. It was a perfect system, no idea why they throw that into the garbage. DPS only is boring, it doesn’t have to be with healers, but kitten , create some dungeons roles. You know how i imagined gw2 before release? i thought anyone could be a healer or tank or dps, no matter what your class was. That’s some innovation right there, if GW2 wants to be even more innovative, create new types of roles. But good ones and important ones. AND NO HALF DPS / HALF X roles.

The Secret World gives free content, they give you free 1200 to the cash shop for 30 missions completed, which is the same price as the DLC content..
So yes other mmos give free content..
did someone said there are ppl that finished the game???
I have done 10 characters to 80 i even deleted some and redid them, did every jump puzzle, dungeons etc etc, i’ve seen the world and geared all my alts..
I do not PvP or WvW and i have no need for a virtual skin with legendary pasted on to it, i guess i’m done too..and it’s too expensive to play with builds in this game..
Sorry to say the living story content is very shallow, and rather quick, its not really living at all the game is static, it should be called episodic content, that is a closer name imo..

Not anymore it’s Buy to Play like Guildwars 2.
Also TSW was off the top of my head, Runes of Magic gives everything free in game if you work at it, Champions online give a lot of free content etc, Not every mmo is a cash cow..

You can think however you want. It wasn’t my decision that they chose to go the route of buy to play, that includes anything they decide to put into the game at a later date barring expansions. After that, it’s their prerogative to make me want to buy stuff from the gemstore.
Free to play is close to the same, except the only way they make cash is through their cash shops. It’s their business model, not mine.
They also designed the leveling process, if they wanted you to “play it slow” well they should have thought of that. I’m not giving the game a free pass just because I enjoy it. I enjoy ice cream too, but if it comes with rocks in it, you can be sure somebody somewhere is going to hear about it, regardless if George the ice cream making dude is having an off day. It’s the devs job to look at the way the meta is evolving over time and adjust stuff, and from what I see, it’s more that the players have to adjust instead of the game. The leveling areas are the core of this game, and the game should have mechanics and rewards tied more to getting people involved in them. All we have currently are meta chests, which players just wp zerg. And they did that on purpose.
All I am getting is defending the “living” part. Well…maybe I dont want a living story then. Doesnt make me any less…patient?

^ I pretty much do this. It’s not because I don’t like it its because my permadeath toons die before I can get to them and I start all over again. I’m over 60 restarts already, but at least it increases the longevity of the game for me… :P
I would like to see more zones, but, until the game gets crowded (for some of us it feels a bit empty I guess), new zones aren’t needed, since most players will migrate towards those zones.
Champions online give a lot of free content etc, Not every mmo is a cash cow..
Cryptic is way more money-grubbing than ANet.
95% of the content you see in CO has been there since shortly after launch, when the game was sub-only. The new content since FFA was: they finished one Adventure Pack, added Alerts (2-5 minute mini-zerg instanced events) and a whole lot of RNG-based P2W crap.
I know you’re a dyed-in-the-wool ANet hater, but come up with something better than the offerings of the amateur studio Cryptic to bolster your arguments.
