So releasing gemstore stuff for wintersday without an actual wintersday event.. nice one. Now what? Release halloween stuff for 2k16 in january just for the money also?

Wintersday should be in about a week.

They said earlier on a blog post that Wintersday starts on the 15th.

They do gemstore items roughly every two weeks. They released Halloween items two weeks early as well. None of this is a change.

There are also a few hundreds other minis that are in game reward. I dont see how this is a problem, community is getting crazy. They been doing this since beginning and its just cosmetic, if you really want it you can still trade gold to gem, also remember there are other reward coming with wintersday too.

Watch out, someone’s gonna come in and point out that they’ve played x, y, and z MMO and they understand “milking”, but they’ll keep arguing because tunnel vision.

I am a bit concerned about the minis being in the gem store this early on.

In every previous year it’s been possible to get at least 1 for free in-game. If that’s the case this year as well I can imagine there will be some angry people who bought them all and now feel like they wasted their money.

Yep, that one.

Timed exclusives are a pretty reasonable compromise between players that missed old content and players that want a reward they earned to be exclusive. After a time, people will move on to new exclusive rewards and the old rewards lose their meaning. So, I don’t mind if old rewards are purchasable one year later, but it’s not okay to do that in the same season. It’s a compromise.

No, they post new/returning/on sale Gem Store items pretty much every week. If anything these items will drain off existing gems banked up for the next round of sales usually around New Year. So drain off the gold and gems and players would have to spend cash.

It’s all about impulse buying. Who wouldn’t want a wreath backpack skin and a snowflake glider skin that drops snow. Very impulse buy.

These were always in the gemstore. IIRC in the first year you could only make 3(?) and if you wanted the rest you had to buy from the gem store.

Offering products to your customers is not money milking. ><

The gemstore kind of does its own thing at its own pace. It doesn’t always has same exact schedule as the game’s events.

They have released event-related stuff before every event since the game launched. And plenty of people welcome the chance to get their event-related gear ready before the event shows up, especially since they have other plans during the event.

I’m not sure why you think it’s “money milking” — at worst, it’s a much shorter lead time than when the first “America’s Halloween Megastore” appears (sometimes in September) or when Wal-Mart starts selling its Christmas decorations (right after Black Friday).

tl;dr nothing new here.

My local grocery chain had the Halloween candy displays out in mid August, 11 weeks before Halloween.

I can’t imagine why people would be getting upset at the gem store getting more content than the full price expansion. Makes no sense at all!

lol that wreath for Wintersday is downright silly. It looks ugly and I don’t see why it wasn’t a skin in wintersday as part of the rewards.

It doesn’t look good and I’d be surprised if ppl spent their money on it.

No need to be so angry and call it ugly because it’s unnecessarily expensive~ it’s just a normal simple wreath. Not something I would spend so much on and would probably just keep it for the sake of collecting if it was an event item.

I used to play a game where devs would walk into my room point a gun at me saying BUY OR DIE. I quitted that game and never looked back.

That’s the rational, adult approach, not everyone here fits into those categories it seems.

Rational adults are not insecure about other people’s opinions about something as insignificant as what’s for sale in an online game’s digital store.

It does make some sense to release the cash shop items with the events at the same time. The other game I play does that, and people are happy with that.

But hey, releasing before the events does mean that they can potentially be available to us longer, and, you can dressup sooner for the occasion, and be ready.

I’ll relate what a guildie said to me last night.

’HoT is being released piecemeal as a means of keeping us logging on. We didn’t buy new content that might be released a year or two from now in the form of living stories, we bought a completed expansion. It seems ANet have devised a new strategy that leads us by the nose towards the gem store from lots of different locations.’

It doesn’t matter if this is true or not, it matters if this is the perception. In our guild this view is rapidly taking hold.

What I didn’t like is, having to pay for another copy of the complete game just to get the expansion. That is nice to new players, but a giant middle finger to the old players. You get no choice about it other than, buy or no buy. Feels as if we are buying a subscription of the game rather than an actual license.

If you are paying attention they started introducing Halloween stuff in early October. Keep in mind this is the third year for Holiday events. Every year they add something new. By releasing stuff now the gem store is more evenly spread out instead of crammed with tons of junk in one day.

Lol someone clearly hasn’t been playing the game long.

I’ve been here since start of the game, thing is, this takes away the ‘special’ touch to the items entirely.

The usually release old outfits before events and New outfits for the events.

If by money you mean gold, since i didn’t pay for a single dime for gems, i have 2 legendarys and quite a good amount of gemstore armors and outfit and deluxe edition upgrade and acc jump start, and newely yesterday i bought a glider. And i play cca 3 hours a day.
