More than 5 account guilds?

I’m wondering what the reasoning is behind only allowing 5 guilds per account. I understand there should be some limit, but it seems like such an arbitrary amount.

For me, I have one character of each profession (9 characters), and I’d like to be able to join a guild with each of them. With WvW, PvP, Open-world PvE, Raids, Dungeons, Guild Halls, Metas, and the social/friend aspects of the game, I feel like 5 isn’t enough to allow for the number of game types Guild Wars 2 supports. I remember when the game launched guilds were character-bound. I agree of course that account-bound makes more sense, but I wonder if the guild limit couldn’t be extended to one per character slot, with the minimum guild slots being 5 for any account with 5 or less slots.

I think this would prevent people from joining too many guilds, encourage people to purchase extra character slots, and encourage people to use more of their characters and explore a greater variety of game modes as well.

Thoughts?

Guilds were never any different, as far as joining them or 5 being the limit, since launch.

Remember, now, Guild Chat shows all 5 Guilds. Would your proposal include showing all 70 Guilds an account could be in (the max character slots being 68-70)? If not, would the reason be any different than the reason for only 5 Guilds?

are you sure about that? i seem to remember guilds being character-bound at the start

also, chat is configurable, so that’s not really a big issue. perhaps some maximum limit is needed (though if they’re willing to pay for that many character slots, AND join that many guilds, it’s kind of on the player at that point if it’s unmanageable), but at the very least, having a few more than 5 would be useful for a lot of people from what i understand.
I can’t imagine it would require a lot of development time to increase the limit, and it would encourage the community to connect more in game and explore more of the game modes, and allow more coordination to happen in game instead of through third-party platforms

I’m 100% positive guilds have always been account bound here. It was one of the big differences from my previous game. I made five alts at headstart, and one of them was heavily RP’d in a guild other than my primary one. Not having simultaneous guild chat available was a pain, and part of the reason I didn’t play her very much, but I certainly did not have to do anything special to have any of my alts be in that second guild at the click of a button.

Oh, perhaps it was the guild chat thing. I came from gw1 too so I’m probably mistaking it.

Regardless, given that the infrastructure for having multiple guilds is already there, I hope that the dev team can appreciate the benefits of increasing that limit a little…

More guild slots would be incredibly useful, regardless of how they were handled at launch. I’ve got 19 kitten character slots, so I definitely have a need for more than 5 guilds, for roleplay purposes.

More than five would be a welcome improvement. I’m not saying to bump it up to 100, but even a maximum of nine would be helpful as I’m a bit of a “dabbler” and don’t have enough room for my totallynotbank guild, PvE guilds, and multiple RP and WvW guilds.
