I didn’t find any glasses from southsun??? The vendors didn’t have them. Where should I look?

There were goggles on southsun…maybe that’s what he’s talking about?

Ha, he’s referring to looking at the world through rose colored glasses

What’s sad is that having reasonable opinions and expectations is considered “seeing the world through rose-colored glasses.”

What I’d really like to see is a new area and concept introduced with the living story and then some lasting effect after it leaves. This seems to have started with the Southsun piece as it changed the landscape (with settlements) and introduced a perm. global event (Karka Queen).

I’m holding out for one of the next few living story events to investigate some odd occurances in Maguuma Jungle → which leads to finding a new type of corruption discovered → then opens a new Maguuma Jungle map → ends with us meeting Mordremoth’s champion.

The end product when the story moves on = new Maguuma Jungle map and new world event to fight Mordremoth’s champion (like the other dragon events currently in the game).

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

My perception is less updates. We haven’t had a real lasting content patch in several months now. The game is getting stale, we need updates and bug fixes.

We need a rework of world drop rates and the ability to get items from killing monsters reliably too, a lot of us have been waiting months for these updates.

I give them a B-, because at least it’s not as slow as other games, but even with patches every month they seem hollow and empty of any substance.

Edit: and agreed with the above poster, WvW is your key to actual longevity and a fiercely loyal userbase, not constantly rushed “GW2-soap” content.
See EVE Online or DAoC.

Agree 100% with this. When the mainstream/bandwagon gamers move on to the next big thing, it will be the WvW fans who stick it out and support the game for years.

As always all of your feedback and comments are greatly appreciated, we’ll continue to adapt and grow this strategy and concept as we go. As we’ve said before, we’re trying something very new and different here, and in some ways we’re learning along with all of you how we make a living world style game work.

Permanent content, more mini games, a few tweaks to boss mechanics which don’t rely on pure zerk powa, and missions or stories that give us a reason why we chose our Pacts.

Yes I know I’m all seeing Commander McAwesomeness of the three Orders, but I started in the Vigil so maybe having a mission for Vigil people outside of Personal Story would be fun.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

Nope, not for small guilds. Will never see them. Well maybe in 6 months we can unlock a few. Plus it’s not content I or anyone else in the guild is excited for or wants to do.

So what else have they added again? Keep trying.

Because you refuse to do the public guild missions offered on many servers. That’s your own problem. I have smaller guilds that do guild missions with my guild, just because they want to get the guild commendations. Then they go back to representing their own guilds. They get stuff without the grind, we get extra help. It’s a win/win.

We run guild missions twice a week. I’ll message you the link to our website. Obviously you’d have to join the guild to rep it so you get the stuff, but there’s no requirement to do anything other than rep when you want to to do the guild mission. More of a service to help out smaller guilds than anything else.

I tossed in extra change over a 3 month period. But now there is bounty training which gives influence, so it is even easier to get more influence and less costly :P

PS there is a new forum for guild bounty’s, I’m sure people post there when they are having runs etc. Heck if people wanted to come to NSP and use mine just to do bounty’s I wouldn’t care, but it wouldn’t get them guild merits or w.e for their own guild, that’s the only difference.

I’m quite happy with the amount of updates in GW2, but I wish more of it was permanent.

We’ve been playing around so far this year with a lot of different concepts to see what works for a living world game, and see what players liked and didn’t like. Based on all of your feedback, you’ll be seeing a greater degree of permanent content built into future living world releases in 2013. And of course, some things you’ve seen before may return again, in its current form but updated like SAB or holiday festivals, or in a new form entirely….

I agree with the OP. Have never seen so many content updates in such a short time after game release in a MMO.
The only thing that I have to criticize is that Anet should maybe wait put a longer time span between the updates so they can improve storytelling.
But overall I must say thumbs up and keep up the great work, guys!

Am I the only one who doesn’t like too many updates too fast?
Among all the content that’s come out, I’ve probably only tried 10% of it and missed everything else b/c I wasn’t done replaying all the launch content yet….

Gw1 was the same way if you counted the PvP updates which TYPICALLY also affected PvE but usually in a bad way… And then there was other ppl who were mad b/c Nightfall came out “too soon” after Factions and so many ppl weren’t even done grinding up all their Faction points at that point (& then the Nightfall skills totally WRECKED the JQ/FA & AB metas which ticked them off even more).

Even later in its life, like just 2 years ago, I thought all those Mes & Ele changes were coming too fast and they really could have spread some of that effort back towards classes like the Paragon & Ranger who needed it a lot more.

Now hold on your say…? that’s still wanting the same quantity of changes?… Well think about it for a minute. When you change one class or one set of enemies too much at once, it can also change everything else that interacts with them. For instance when you change Orr too much in this game, it can potentially unbalance a lot of classes that WERE considered balanced before that. Or… just adding new content that changes things too much … like a Festival that introduce major powercreep or “market-force” … or possibly a new zone or dungeon that adds new tiers of gear or attributes.

So that’s why I think its a lot more important to spread out the changes to a wider spectrum but in smaller steps spaced out evenly so that everyone gets a chance to adapt. And if we could get more “Splitting” between PvP & PvE, that would really be terrific too :\

And of course, some things you’ve seen before may return again, in its current form but updated like SAB or holiday festivals, or in a new form entirely….

We’ve got a few more updates coming more along the lines of what we’ve done so far in the vein of holiday festivals, but as the year progresses we’re going to layer more permanent changes and content as well with each living world release. I’ll toss a blog post up in a couple of weeks that outlines high level, where we’re taking our living world style updates specifically in the future for more clear transparency once we’ve got it all ironed out.

As always all of your feedback and comments are greatly appreciated, we’ll continue to adapt and grow this strategy and concept as we go. As we’ve said before, we’re trying something very new and different here, and in some ways we’re learning along with all of you how we make a living world style game work.

I think the Arenanet team is doing a good job in terms of updates and fixes. As far as a need for permanent content, I really feel it is not at all needed. The current living story model is just fine. The reason for this is simple: players will get bored if the added LS elements are permanent and not return to them. This is the same situation as what players are given now, only the option to move on from said content is decided for us.

I would argue that some aspects of the LS are kept. Most notably some of the achievements and the highest quality parts of the events such as the Flame and Frost dungeon. Some should just be thrown out though, the 200% MF buff is great at first glance but, it leads to the most boring situation. Players just farm constantly with the buff on and it lasts 23 hours. I find myself not enjoying other parts of the game because I want to farm in South Sun Cove with the MF buff which makes my experience with the game boring.

Right now I think the game needs some quality of life improvements more than anything else. I’m quite happy with the LS story updates, it is a lot more than some former subscription based games provide and they occur much more frequently. The MMO market is heavily saturated with games many of which have content updates that are significantly smaller than a single LS update and have a micro-transaction scheme to sell players power. The Arenanet team thoroughly steers clear of some of the major pitfalls of other developers and provides an enjoyable experience with no momentary requirements beyond the box purchase.

TL;DR: LS model is fine, keep some parts of temporary content like F&F dungeon, avoid stuff like 200% MF buff, more quality of life improvements, go look at other MMOs to get an idea of how bad it could be.

It’s kind of an illusion, like a lot of things in this game. We’re being tricked to pay more than a sub for a lesser game than a sub-based one.

Really? I’ve spent about £30 in the gem store since launch, and for that I’ve gotten 8 months of play time and a bunch of extra items. In a sub game that would have gotten me, what? 2 months of permission to play the game I’d already paid for. And an invitation to spend the same again in the cash shop, because I don’t think there is an online game without one these days.

Some people do spend more than they would on a sub. But that’s their choice, if they don’t want to or can’t afford it or whatever they can keep on playing, whereas if you don’t pay your subscription you can’t play at all, even the content you’ve already paid for.

ANET has embraced the most cynical game-design-wedded-to-cash-shop ever, and you people cannot see it. “It’s not P2W!” they say. That’s the trick. What the heck would P2W be anyway in this game? The CS informs the game rules.

Top gear is given to you. There is nothing else but fluff in this game. They have designed it so that the only thing you would want to grind for can easily be bought for real money; and not outright, but gambled for. Pets, gear (all gear is cosmetic lol), “fun” items, you know, all the content they release that we are supposed to look forward to. And almost impossible to achieve without spending money – IE limited time items with disgusting RNG drop rates.

Other than those things, there is a complete lack of carrots i.e content in this game. Would you play this game if it had a 15.00/month sub? exactly as it is? It’s half of an MMO. Man , I can just imagine the forum complaints if this game were held to a sub game standard. If that were the case this game would tank faster than SWTOR.

Would you pay a sub if all the little knickknacks/weapons/armors that get released to the gemstore in scratch ticket form would be obtainable in game through actual game activities? Making “playing the game” rewarding? I would. Might even pay 20.00 to enjoy a full game.

However, ANET wants us to pay much, much more to enjoy that level of game design. Like twice a regular sub to be able to get everything. And then you have it all, dropped into your mailbox with a receipt; no reason to actually play the game. That’s fun.

The GAME suffers when there’s no reason to do anything. Farming, especially the meager method promoted by this game; is for peasants. The only way to not be a peasant in the ethos in this gameworld is to open your wallet wide, not to achieve extraordinary things by playing the game. That is why its a trick. It seems possible to earn gold and convert to gems to get stuff (the F2P way) but that is an illusion. ANET is constantly tweaking and nerfing the gameplay to make sure that is as difficult as possible. fun.

Guess what? I’ve spent 0 $ on skyrim since it launched aside from box price. And I’ve gotten what, 2 years of gameplay out of it? More from oblivion, and even more from morrowind before that. But it’s not an MMO. and neither is GW2. But I don’t have to grind and farm in Elder scrolls games, I just play and enjoy them. They’re well designed GAMES.

Thank you for the comment, even if this has come a month or two later than it should have done.
I know you posted a few things around the time of SAB and molten, yet im glad you can finally say thats theres alot more perma stuff coming. Rather than, ‘were just experimenting right now’.

Colin I have to say, you and snowcrash have restored alot of faith about the transparency of your company and its intentions. Please, continue the great work and keep fighting the marketing team tooth and nail. You guys have made a great game and I hate seeing its image tarnished just because you arnt allowed to comment on some topics.
Obviously spoilers are a thing to avoid, but the marketing team needs to realise that devs commenting on future features, especially in simple question and answer format provides a touch that is reminiscent of a pure indie dev, something that is becoming more and more popular within games today.

Okay no lasting content. Guild missions last, so you were still wrong about that. And since once you unlock them they’re unlocked and because there are plenty of guilds doing public guild missions, so you can do them without unlocking them, I’d call that a case of ignoring content because you’re not interested in it…which is what it is.

More updates than MMOs with Subs?

I guess you missed the part where I said I wasn’t interested in them. That’s like telling me to go craft or something. I’m just plainly not interested in half content, a lot of us need more than that.

Just realized who I was talking to again. This is a waste of type space and time.

Well, it’s content whether you’re interested or not. If you proclaim no permanent content has been released, and you’re completely wrong, why should anyone listen to anything else you say?
