I must respectfully disagree.

I currently have Three, yes that’s 3 sets of wings in the inventory of one of my characters.
No none of them are soulbound yet because I personally think they look silly but that is just me.
No I can’t destroy them cause hey, I did earn them.
Enough with the Wings already, please.
And maybe one step further, these are the Back Items just sitting in my character’s inventory, UNUSED. Why, well because I only have One back.

  1. Mad Memoires
  2. Mad Memoires: Complete Edition
  3. Toymaker’s Bag
  4. Sclerite Karka Shell
  5. Sun Catcher
  6. Lightning Catcher
  7. Wind Catcher
  8. Desert Rose
  9. Zephyr Rucksack
  10. Wings of the Sunless
  11. Fervid Censer
  12. Guild Defender Backpack
  13. Holographic Dragon Wing
  14. Holographic Shattered Dragon Wing

Yes, yes I know I could spread them over to my other 4 characters but they already have back items of their own; well except for the Engineer but that is another story for another time.

Now If we could stack up these skins in some sort of back item tab and make use of them when an appropriate situation arises(like Minis), then I say bring on the Back Items(wings) but until then I am just running out of inventory space.

And before someone says just buy more bank inventory space…
I currently have 430 Bank Slots available NOT counting Character Inventory or Guild Bank Space and yes, they are all almost completely full of stuff.

This. I haven’t used any backskins they’ve given away as part of Living Story or anything else. I only like 2 Ascended ones (Fractals and the Quiver), so they’re the only 2 I’d use.
Adding in more wings or bizarre bug-exterminator back skins does no harm. I can just easily destroy them and people that like them can use them.
Be kinda nice if there was option though. The Mad King skin as an example – some people were flipping out about not being able to get this and really wanted it. Personally, I think the skin is dumb and would have opted for the treat bags had I the choice. When these kind of quests are done, a choice between the skin or something like 25 treat bags (or something similar) would be fantastic.

Yes, thank you for the instructions on how to destroy an item but as I stated previously:

  • “No I can’t destroy them cause hey, I did earn them.”
  • “Now If we could stack up these skins in some sort of back item tab and make use of them when an appropriate situation arises(like Minis), then I say bring on the Back Items(wings)”

The reason I submitted an alternate solution of just destroying them, was because that tends to be an absolute finality in this game(No Takebacks).

As I stated I wouldn’t mind having them available for use if and “when an appropriate situation arises” or maybe, 6 gods forbid…I change my mind.

This is called hoarding. You are amassing a collection of useless items that server no purpose and will never use for the sole reason that you ‘earned’ them.
If you never use them to show off that you earned them and never will, then they literally serve no purpose other than to clutter your inventory. Its a self-inflicted problem.
I would be for adding skins to the achievement section with those skins for the sole purpose of people who like them being able to access them on alts. It would doubly cover what your self-inflicted problem is weighing you down with.

Holding onto items that you’ll likely not ever use is your own choice. It’s also your own choice to free up inventory space or purchase more. If you choose to destroy an item, accept the consequences of never getting that item back. If you can’t live with those consequences, then you’ve chosen to hold onto them and your only option really is more storage. The system in place is fine as it is and devs need their attentions focused on far more pressing issues.

It would be ridiculous imho to make a collection slot for back items. If you do that, you might as well make one for every piece of armor and town clothing in the game. While we’re at it, lets remove the need for inventory bags altogether by making every droppable item in the game go straight to a collection slot. nothx

Good point, in the current state of the game it remains my option to hold or trash them. Since the game at this point is in a constant state of flux as to what mechanics they are going to add or change I prefer to keep them for a while and see what happens.

As for the ridiculous collection slot for earned back skins…

  • My 20+ Titles have a nice little slot for me to hold them till I find a need to use.
  • My recently added 8 Zenith, Radiant and Hellfire skins have a nice comfy spot to rest till I need them later

Is it really so ridiculously far fetched to hope for such a spot to hold my Back Item Skins too?

Wouldn’t mind seeing more wing back pieces in the game.
Would love to see capes as well. However, I know that capes are a pain in the kitten for programmers since the game engine would just want to have them clip down through your character model. This becomes exceedingly obvious and problematic for Charr character models since they are hunched over, even when standing still, and thats not even taking into account when they run.
Also, I’m not entirely sure that the backpiece slot is really good for capes, as is. It’s rather low on the back for most character models, where as capes drape down over the back from around the shoulders.
One possible compromise could be a single smaller cape coming off of a shoulder piece. It could naturally, and more easily drape around the side of a character model, even a Charr, rather then just clip straight through it.
Anyway, more back piece options are always great.
Whether you like them or not is subjective opinion.
Whether you like them on other characters around you or not is irrelevant. Because you know… that whole multiplayer online game thing…

“If half as many people were half as brave in real life as they were online…
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”

Mesket, I don’t disagree with you, but I might be able to take that more seriously if we didn’t have plush quaggan backpacks all over the place.

As to the topic: I wouldn’t mind more wings if they were done tastefully and were not animated. They should move according to the character model’s motion physics. They should not have their own independent animation.

However, I would love to see other types of back pieces, too. Such as:

Guild Capes
Orbs
Cosmetic Weapons like Anton’s swords
Auras
Scarves

There’s lots of cool stuff that could be done with back pieces, rather than repeating the same ones.

Think about it this way: Take your basic level 80 exotic set. Exalted Light Armor for example. How many different derivatives are there? (ie: Rampager’s, Carrion, Berzerker’s, Cleric’s, etc.) Are you suggesting we make a collection slot for every single armor combination in the game? The list would be horrendously long.

Now think about back items. How would you suggest they do this? Have a skin library for every single back item in the game? What about back items that don’t have skins? Are you suggesting they be recognized in the programming code as something else OTHER than collection back items, while still being recognized as back armor? What about skins that have already been transmuted onto armor? Are they going to no longer be allowed to “dock” in the collections tab? Should every back piece be account unlocked like the Zenith weapons? Should every piece of armor be account unlocked like the Zenith weapons? You do realize there is a reason why the achievement armor can’t be dyed. Are you willing to risk all armor not being dyable just for the privilege of docking them in a collection tab?

It’s ridiculous simply for the fact that it’s a huge huge HUGE amount of unnecessary work to fix something that is unbelievably already working fine as is. It’s simply a waste of time imho to focus so many resources on something so trivial. This wouldn’t “just” be a quick fix to complete lol.

Um… the window/list you’re talking about is already in the game. Walk up to the PvP locker in the heart of the mist and you’ll see nearly every skin in the game neatly laid out. It’s pretty much where I do all my try-before-you-buy costumery.

Copy that window, add a simple 1 bit yes/no to do you own rights to withdraw that particular skin as seen in the Achievements reward panel (again, existing, proven code) and the job is DONE.

Its a lot more a matter of ANet stylistic choice and profitability than some insurmountable coding exercise.
