The idea is that you shouldn’t be able to just run from one part of the zone to the other, thereby skipping all the content in between. If they let you do that, why not just let you fly over it all?

Allowing players to just skip through content takes away any already diminished sense of danger that exists in this game, since there really is no penalty to dying. If you run through a group of mobs, those mobs should pose at least something that resembles a threat.

Yep! The act of being chased by an NPC doesn’t put you in combat – being hit does (or if you have a pet – your pet being hit)

I don’t see the problem.

Most of the time you can NOT avoid fights as you are forced to move in between mobs that aggro. The point is not to avoid danger then point is that this is an annoying mechanic that does nothing but frustrates.

There are very few zones in the game that forces you to run between mobs in order to get somewhere though. Most zones have the option to run around them and so on.

I really hate this mechanic of forcing people to slow down and fight

Seems they’re doing exactly that… so his argument seems pretty solid.

I agree with this guy.

Downed state is the most annoying feature in the game.

It allows for mindless zerging in PvE and ruins sPvP/WvW.

The removal of this one mechanic alone would make the game significantly better.

By any means the most annoying and infuriating “feature” of GW2 is the asinine reasons why one must slow down to 50% speed when being attacked by NPC.

There is no logic to this besides the devs wanting the person to be forced to fight as fleeing would be annoying. It is a bad mechanic that other mmos as well use. It makes no sense and it is really annoying especially in a group when you are the only person hit with an attack an you slow down while everybody runs away with speed buffs.

Get rid of this

Yeah, I’m completely with you on this one. No logical reason to use it.

Use leap skills, teleport skills, and dodge rolls to move fast while in combat. Professions with stealth can obviously use that to avoid combat entirely.

What I do for for moving through the world fast is play a profession that has good mobility skills, because they aren’t inhibited by combat speed. I got lucky with my first profession, the elementalist. Ride the lightning used to be a 15 second recharge with 1500 range. The elementalist is still good for getting in and out of combat, with ride the lightning, updraft, swiftness, lightning flash, and mist form. If you’re spec’ed so that cantrips give you vigor, that’s helpful too since you can dodge roll more. Also the elite conjure fiery greatsword has some good skills for moving quickly in combat. Burning speed gives you a good little boost too for mainhand dagger.

I’ve seen that sword/greatsword warriors can move out of combat fast as well, but I have no experience with a PvE warrior, so I won’t elaborate.

Ranger’s have a couple of skills that help them move out of combat fast, but I haven’t played them either.

Engineer has a handful of skills that are good for movement. Haven’t played one though, so I’ll let someone else elaborate.

Necromancer doesn’t really have much in the way movement skills, but I have thought about how to deal with this for when I play my necro. I’d focus on fear skills and fear enemies away from me while leaving a fear mark behind me.

Guardian doesn’t have many good skills for moving out of combat fast. I rely on leap of faith mostly, the two teleport skills are useful if there’s something you can target in the direction you are moving. The best option with guardian though is to just avoid combat and keep popping aegis with retreat, save yourselves, and courage to block enemies so you never enter combat. Also if you have justice traited to blind, enemies missing will prevent combat speed from activating as well.

The mesmer is the worst class I’ve played for mobility, you’d have to get centaur runes to get any decent speed out of this profession. Problem is you’re still lacking in skills that put distance between you and your enemy. There’s blink and staff 2 + an about-face. Using into the void can be helpful sometime, but you want to be careful you don’t fling an enemy from a group in the direction you’re trying to go. Mass invisibility would be the elite you’d want to use, since it helps you avoid combat.

Now the best profession for mobility is the thief, if you have a mainhand dagger with an IMS (increase movement speedbuff) heartseeker will get you out of combat very quickly as well. Take withdraw and roll for initiative, these two skills remove DMS conditions and when combined with an about-face, move you forward very quickly too. When I’m running on my thief my utilities are always Withdraw, Roll for Initiative, Shadow Refuge, and Signet of Shadows. I already explained the first two. Shadow refuge is a really good long Stealth. Signet of Shadows is the main IMS skill I use to get more distance out of my Heartseeker’s, since I’m not spec’ed for perma swiftness. Also the thief can get a lot of vigor when the heal skills is traited for it, combined with feline grace gives you a lot of access to dodges to keep moving fast in combat if you are stuck in a cripple or chill.

And yet, it’s available to everyone, including both participants in that particular PvP match. So whenever I read a line like this, what I read is “Anet introduced something more than just facerolling WoW style in PvP and I lost because the other player used to better than I did, so please remove it from the game”.

It’s why everybody hates Orr. The mobs there are just speed bumps there to annoy you.

Why they haven’t reduced the mob density or removed those incredibly annoying ranged snares/fears/stuns etc. is beyond me…

Before the advent of champ rewards those zones were mostly inhabited by soulkitten ts grinding mobs with MF endlessly.

Now it’s hordes of bots grinding champion mobs endlessly without MF.

Did you know that engineers have a +25% speed bonus in combat with one of their traits?

My warrior does not, but then he doesn’t need it, he can ignore being hit most of the time and can use his war horn for an extra speed boost if he’s just traveling, and it even removes conditions.

Most annoying – ability cooldowns. Some of them are far too punishing.. I realize powerful abilities can’t be spammed, but 45 second cooldowns on three out of five abilities just makes combat feel less intense and interesting than it could be.

Not to mention being forced by some encounters to dodge 20 times a minute when your dodge ‘cool down’ effectively limits you to 10 dodges a minute without gaming the system..

I’d have to say probably stealth stomping in WvW, or just stealth in general in WvW.

Other than that, either the one time only LS rewards (why can’t they just be put into the new achievement panel thing, so we can get them more than once?) or tying most of new weapons skins to RL gambling/RNG boxes (at least they’re slowly going away, even though its even harder to get one, at the cost of 50 scraps).

Then again Warriors can get permanent 25% speed bonus when wielding a melee weapon, both in and out of combat (trait). Grab a greatsword and you can use Rush (and to a lesser degree Whirlwind Attack) to make avoiding monsters even easier.

One of the most annoying things to me is they give us all these cons and no quick slot for them. If i have to “i” in the middle of combat, just to pop a fire ele or a healing tree, i’m more often dead for not paying attention to combat.

As far as mob slows, it’s not that annoying to me anymore. Besides my mesmer, my other toons do pretty well at avoiding getting hit.

L.A.G.

For a game which primarily relies on damage avoidance for mitigation through reaction/dodges, any lag is critical in your success or otherwise, especially for those in the Oceanic/Asia zones we have a minimum of 150-180 ms latency purely because of the distance.

The other side of this is the skill lag caused by the game engine not being able to handle its intended workload. I mean for a game which is primarily a multi player genre to have a game engine that cannot cope even with a moderate component of the multi bit is pretty poor.

Worst feature? Anonymity.

The enemy doesn’t know your name. There is no deathspam when you kill. There is no guild name when claiming a keep, nor guild spam when a claimed keep is attacked.

There is no fame or glory whatsoever in wvw. It limits rivalries, it doesn’t foster respect, and it gives birth to a nameless karmatrain. GW2 needs darkness falls, it needs a camelot herald, but most of all, it needs to instill pride in those who fight in wvw. it doesnt even bother, like wvw was just a nice after thought.

Yeah, there is…

Items that are soulbound when they should be account bound (unlimited use gathering tools, dyes, legendaries, etc.)

Downed State and Rallying.

Getting that stupid Error when you are selling stuff on the TP.

Different in and out of combat movement speeds.

MysticForge.

But really, what I find the most annoying is the lack of in-game information on things in the game. I remember seeing someone link an ascended (infused) item and thought, ‘how do they get the (infused) kind?’. I then proceed to minimize the game and look it up. Something that’s required much too often.

Well it’s that and the slow movement speed on top of it. MMos have always had combat speed(not sure why because if you slow both the npc and the player in combat than their is no reason to have the speed slow because they go from even ground to even ground, even the “we don’t want people running threw zones or away from all their fights” doesn’t make sense because the enemy can still run at your speed or slightly faster in and out of combat) The only reason i can think of having combat speed is because mobs have a leash on them(terrible feature that mmos have)making it so if players are moving to quickly they will just reset all the mobs before they can do anything.

either way ya the base speed of movement in this game feels kinda slow and only with swiftness do i feel like I’m moving at an ok pace. It would be nice to have a slight increase in movement speed although not required.

My biggest annoyance though is this game has invisible walls inside zones instead of just on the outside. Makes exploring feel even more confined than it already is due to zones. Mount maelstrom is the perfect example you can walk up one side but another has invisible walls blocking your progress down doesn’t make sense. Also the lack of visual knowledge of outside zones. When you go to zones that should allow you to look out to other ones off in the distance just to find a big wall or nothing out there. I can’t even look behind the CD door to see some form of a desert or across the lake near rata sum to see what’s on the other side it makes me feel like the world isn’t actually connected and this zone I’m in is in its own little universe.

Dynamic events also annoy me but im trying to do a lot of research on the dynamic events of gw2 and seeing how Anet can give them more meaning and make the players feel like they are impacting the world(in their current state people don’t really even notice the cause and effect of them). That’s a whole another thread of stuff though and I actually want to try covering them extensively if i ever do talk about them again.
