Just so people are aware since this has come up as a complaint multiple times…

Since the introduction of AOE looting you can bind AOE loot to a separate key so you don’t revive/talk when attempting to loot.

Various quality of life features that have been around since bronze age MMOs and are oddly absent in 2012/2013:

1) No ability to deposit all/withdraw all from the bank.
2) No first person view.
2.1) Difficult camera angles, which make taking screenshots frustrating.
3) No way to see inactivity in the guild roster.
4) No way to tell which crafting levels a character is at if those disciplines are inactive.
5) No list of completed story mode dungeons or fractal levels per character.
6) No LFG tool.
7) No reasonable spam/squelching system. Why should I be locked out of sharing potions with my friends in dungeon runs?
8) No true “invisible mode” or privacy – everyone knows exactly where you are at all times.
9) No way to customize your UI or rearrange skills to your liking.

Not directly related to a game mechanic, but I find the lack of quality skill and trait update notes very disheartening. In GW1, every buff or nerf had a detailed report from the developers stating their reasoning.

Dodge

I don’t mind that the game is so dependent on it, I mind that they implemented it in the most boring way possible. There really should have been a defensive skill slot with it’s own set of skills, similar to how the heal slot works.

I agree and have even thought about posting this as a suggestion before but meh why bother right?

There should be another slot next to healing or above it for defensive skills such as block/remove conditions, remove this or that, detect/disarm traps etc etc. Imagine the possibilities in the game with such features….

Another mechanic I have trouble coping with is the complete nullification of damage types. Shouldn’t my vapor blade deal more damage to lava elementals? Shouldn’t an oakheart take massive damage from a flamethrower? And why wouldn’t an earth elemental have better shielding against a sword than a hammer? Anet messed up royally in GW1 by having “typeless” damage dominate the game for a vast majority of its life and it seems they just threw the baby out with the bathwater.

Yes……they made it too simple throwing out “magic damage”, “physical damage” etc. Instead they should have brought in Blunt, piercing, slashing, certain types of magic damage etc to help with the creation of different builds/class variety and perhaps even give some classes/builds more of a “role” that some people seem to say does not exist.

Then again having said all that it may have been too confusing for the “Xbox generation” they seem to maybe targeting as the core gamer here. :P

talking to npcs instead of looting, no i dont want to talk to the kittening npc i want to pick up mah 13w7z.

Yeah, though the area loot button helps.
What´s really annoying though is the talking during a fight!

NO, event NPC. I don´t want to suddenly start chatting with you in the middle of the kitten fight!
Why do you?!
I know you know that I´m in a fighting stance, and I also know during your event scripted convos I suddenly can´t talk to you anymore either.

So why the heck aren´t these states automatically linked?

1. The ability for NPC’s to spam control effects like it’s going out of fashion, but players cannot use controls on anything bigger than a veteran. This is definitely kitten -backwards design when the NPC’s have more skills than players.

2. Condition stacking. As long as this is a thing, conditions in PvE are irrelevant

I agree about the massively overdone crowd control skills mobs get. Seems that in some areas all the trash mobs get crowd control and spam it incessantly. Give crowd control to bosses and such things, trash mobs/minions should NOT have crowd control skills. It’s not so much a challenge as incredibly annoying.

Auto-targetting is annoying as well. I don’t normally use it but in a game where you lose your target every few seconds due to incessant crowd control, it’s almost essential. Pity then that it typically chooses scenery half a mile away over the mob standing two feet away hitting you with a flamin great sword.

The daily stuff.

daily laurel
daily dungeon reward
daily fractal chest
daily crystal now

The sad part is that some of that stuff, i’m not too fussed with. The annoying thing is to know that the day i change my mind or they add a new use for laurels/crystals that i like, unless i religiously grinded my dailies to build a stock, i’ll be gated by a month.

The most annoying game mechanic for me is revive, talk, loot, grab bundles, and utilize objects all activated through the same keypress/click with a target decided by the game. The player knows what they want to do. The game doesn’t let them do it for internal game reasons and offers one other thing to do instead. This is clearly a sign of a failing game mechanic. Even if you’re offered a chance to revive, say, you can’t tell who you are reviving.

I think we’ve all had our moments of trying to pick up a crystal at the Jade Maw, only to have a downed team mate resting on top of that crystal. And the moment you hit that use button, it starts reviving… and then the Jade Maw gets you.

Yeah or you pick up loot instead of crystal – sooooooo annoying…like loot is more important than my life – yeah right!

Open world mob CC in anywhere but Orr. I understand that Orr is supposed to be somewhat challenging (it’s not really) so the trash mobs being able to cripple and pull you is okay. But trash mobs in all of the low level zones crippling and immobilizing is freaking stupid.

Defiant/Boss AI: Makes control skills completely useless and renders away a leg of GW2’s supposed trinity. I understand stunlocking bosses would be way overpowered but when they’re nothing more complicated than giant health pools it doesn’t really matter.

DPS is King: Control is kitten by defiant and support is useless except for offensive boons and reflects(in high lvl fractals)

Not a mechanic but the lack of variety in armors. There’s so many fire-themed over the top skins. Light armor for the most part looks crappy or bland on anyone who isn’t a humanoid female. Medium armor is just trench coats. All armor types have this terrible “butt-cape” syndrome. The overall lack of new armor skins (not back-pieces) that are obtainable without the gemstore is annoying and the few new armor skins that are obtainable without the gem store don’t look good on light and medium armor wearers. Not a single new full set of armor has been added to the game that isn’t gem-store related and for a game which claims to be so focused on cosmetics for an end game I find it ridiculous. Hopefully some new armors are added into the game.

For me is the chain knockback/pull spam. It is possible to go from full HP to dead without being able to do a single thing about it. For example the first boss in Caudecus with the shotgun: you’re hit once, you’re dead unless somebody saves you. Or the drakes in southsun with their pull.

Shift+ ctrl hard mapped to chat link commands. Let us remap all shortcuts pls.

Nearest target: meaning one closest in combat with me, not the one out of combat in linear line of sight. targeting is more related to my view point not the mobs proximity or aggro state.

Magic find stat. Need to wear worse gear for better loot. bad for teams, bad for variety

Max condition stack. uncap conds like bleed and make duration conds stack over certain durations so poison over 1 min generates a 2nd poison. Thus cond builds can be far more useful in teams when duplicating or capping current effects.

Camera zoom from rear terrain, esp in JP. just make rear terrain 75% transparent and keep camera fixed.

Skill cooldown on a missed skill, not blocked or otherwise countered but missed due to range/los, so it is not actually used the skill, but cd is triggered.
