This is frustrating. Outside of the cities and the starting zones, I’m lucky to find 5 people on a map (Tarnished Coast). I can’t even imagine how bad it is on low-pop servers.

To exasperate this, events are focusing on Lion’s Arch, which is normally overcrowded, even without events.

Maybe add in more world bosses? How about one in every zone, each of which drops a chest similar to shadow behemoth and similar bosses? This would at least spread out the players a bit.

I’m seeing lots of players in all zones running around getting effigies. They stop and do events on their way between stuff.

That’s odd. I play on TC and am currently working through low-mid level zones for map completion and there are other players everywhere I go—literally. I actually spent a couple months in the old days trying to get to TC to avoid empty zones and I haven’t been disappointed.

Waiting for the post from Vayne saying your observations are inconclusive and demanding research and documentation in 3….2….1……!

Hahahahahahaha..hmm…ho…haha..

Anyway, it’s a problem that’s only going to get worse as less and less permanent content comes out to bring people back to these zones. It happens in every MMO, but it’s happening to this one in over drive.

That said, TC should have a healthy population, they are some great people and it’s a high population server.

The problem is that there is no reason to visit many mid-level zones.

-Level appropriate characters are better off completing the starter zones and occasionally being in world chest events. It is very possible to be in your 40s just by doing that, and maybe like 1 15-30 zone. And the enemies are a lot easier.

- Most don’t provide any variety or visual features. Hrathi Hintherlands looks like the outskirts of the other Kryta zones, but nothing else. Ascalon seems to feature increasingly annoying terrain. Shiverpeaks are loaded with annoying dredge. And maybe it’s just me, but mid-zones seem to have a lot of annoying enemies. Dirt dirt dirt lava snow lava snow dirt. Yea, whatever.

-Waypoint costs cripple the experience for leveled characters. The 1-15 zones, and anything that connects near Lion’s Arch are just easier to get to. Paying a few silver to see nothing in the middle in nowhere is just annoying. Even discounting the wp cost, getting there is just inconvenient.

— Long stretches of land with nothing.

-And thanks to people not going there, respawn rates are really, really awful.

-Midlevel crafting materials are bleh. They’re more to level your character than anything else. Though they’re actually going up in price since nobody wants to gather them, lol.

-Not enough NPCs with interesting chatter or interaction. The roaming bands of NPCs that just happen to walk around or get taken down by wild animals where you may be encouraged to help them just helps immersion a little. Yes, I understand the farther you go out, it should be more sparse in terms of population, but don’t make it so not even the NPCs want to be around there. I feel like I need to interact with something other than the enemies.

For example, in Diablo series we frequently got random remains and writings that we’d come across so we’d learn something about the surroundings. Sure, most of the people don’t care and Gw2 does have some, but it’s a nice touch, and the game here doesn’t do enough to add any color or history to a zone. Yes the Heart people will give you a few words here and there, but that’s not enough to establish why this area exists in this world to make it stand out.

tl;dr Too much effort to get there, and nothing to see anyways

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

“I never see any other players”

Each map is relatively big. Even if there are say….20 other people on it, you may not necessarily run into them. I’ve been running around G Fields on AR and while I know there are two dozen or more people on the map with me (because I’ve gotten lucky and waypointed to the same spot they were at that moment by pure luck), even doing the same thing, I don’t often run into them, and map chat is a little quiet. So it ‘feels’ like I’m alone, but I’m really not. Perception vs actuality.

In some cases you might actually be all alone. Its a flaw in all MMO games – you simply can’t expect every map to be teeming with people all the time.

“No one plays ‘x’ zone, add a world boss”

This isn’t going to solve the issue. If the zone is bypassed by the general player base for a valid reason, simply adding a world boss is not going to liven it up. Well, it will for the 20 or so minutes it takes the boss to spawn and then die, but then everyone is going to just leave again. These zones need some reworking to make them desirable…interesting mechanics, challenging foe tactics, decent rewards, more impactive events, that sort of thing. More than just ‘a boss,’ but this will take time and lots of effort on the developers’ part.

With the living story moving from zone to zone (only festivals really focus on LA), we may see some of these ‘dead zones’ revamped a bit in time.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Bring back “Districting” … problem solved

Something like that. Underflow servers would be this games version maybe. Maybe when you go into a zone it puts you into an underflow server along with all the other people from the other servers until its full. Then it starts a new underflow server. Let people have the option to stay in their home server or if they get in a new, empty underflow server, they will get offers to move them to the full one as people leave the area. Pretty much the same as districts.

Maybe they will start some server transfers for the dying servers. Nothing worse than having people that are wanting to play with others stuck on one of the dead ones.

That’s what I said in the opening post. You find a couple people on any given map, but that’s it. I think there needs to be a way to entice players to go to every map.

These guys are just being rude. Instead of offering you a guild or to quest with you, they offer insult. TC is a very populated server and this is not usually how they act. Try to get into a PvE guild.

TC here as well and I spend a lot of time in starter zones as a casual and an alt aholic I see a fair amount in most places I go, more so in Queensdale. It has slowed down a bit, but when Dragon Bash started the low level maps were filled to the brim with people farming dragon coffers and holos. I think I even hit an overflow in Queensdale a few times. Hard to tell because every time I go to LA these days I hit overflow and just ignore the message and click to close it. So I don’t really notice the message anymore.

What time zone are you in and what time of day do you play? That can make a difference.

This caused me to Lol. Nice.

Also, the population could stand to be higher, but the game is hardly on life support. I think it’d be cool if they used dynamic servers and squashed the midlevel zones together so they’d stay more populated.

Outside initial exploration and specific world boss-hunting, there really isn’t much reward wise to go to the harder zones. More xp? Insignificant once you hit 80. More gold? No not really. If things actually started dropping “gold” gold and not pitiful copper coins then maybe it would bring people out there.

Even dailies encourage people to go to low level zones because they can get it out of the way quicker. Personally I don’t find it’s really worth the TP cost to zip out there either. I don’t mind the run, but there’s nothing worthwhile out there to run to?
