Moth Glider [Question/Suggestion]
So, i just purchased the moth wings glider combo and was so excited to dye them in colors to match my different characters…alas i find that only the glider is dyeable!
And there has been so much hype on the dyeable aspect of these to come along and discover its only half true.
Now i know it may be technically difficult to make the moth wings change to the color of the moth glider but would Anet please consider doing this!
How many of you players would like to see this change/update?
I know i would!
Hmmm. I didn’t think of that but It “makes sense” according to how the UI is set up. No backpacks are dyeable. They are in the trinket section of the UI and none of those items have an ability to be dyed.
ANet may give it to you.

I’ve noticed that myself, but might it be possible for them to just change the wings when the glider is, i think it could be.
I was also disappointed when I realized this. However, I lucked out in that the existing color of the wings works very well with my characters current look.
It is unlikely that I will use the dye option, since the whole idea was to have the glider and backpack match and coordinate with outfits.

Maybe.
They aren’t actually the same item. One is a glider and one is a backpack. They are in different sections of the wardrobes and one has stats and one is a skin only. It might not be easy to tie two completely different items together so that they both dye. It’s not a feature of any other part of the wardrobe where you can dye 2 different items simultaneously.
What I think ANet would have to do to make them dyeable is to add dye channels. But then you have all the old backpacks that need to be reworked to either have dye channels or not have dye channels while in a slot that has dye channels. It’s not a case of one item being redone but all the backpacks needing to be reworked. I’m sure it could be done but it doesn’t sound like something easy to change to me.

What disappointed me is that the backpack looks like butterfly wings. I fully expected the backpack wings to fold down and be more moth-like, and then expand when in glider form, the way the bat wings do.
It’s a shame that the backpack can’t be dyed, but that’s the case for all backpacks. Red is also not a color I would have picked for a moth.
Glider: 5 stars.
Backpack: bust.

Folded down wings that hide the patterns and colors so they can’t be properly seen would create its own complaints.
I wouldn’t have picked red either for the backpack (green maybe) and the edges of the glider being a non-dyeable beige is another negative to me.

So pretty…
I do wish there were more channels to dye the various gliders, though it’s nice there are any at all. I tried a few variations of color to suit my Scarlet Pimpernel mesmer and settled on Enameled Reign and Pyre, as the latter makes use of the beige edges.
Interesting note: If you redye a glider mid air (eg on a long glide from the LA lighthouse), you must toggle the glider off then on to make the new dye take effect. I had Enameled Sky for the “eyes” at first but switched to the gold mid flight.
I am wondering who will be the first to cosplay Arthur from The Tick using Celestial for the wings
I also really want the backpack to be dyeable… I am a green-brown druid, the wings would complete my look. However, the red just totally ruins it for me
It’s not overlooked, it’s that the system isn’t in place for dyeable back pieces. Now, until that gets changed, if ever, the moth backpack will remain as is.
We already know adding dye channels to weapons would be significant time investment from previous, recent dev statements. Whilst back pieces are unlikely to be the same level of work, it still might be more work to retro-actively do than they are willing to put in at this time.
It’s most likely a bug. There are several gliders now that have a tool tip in the hero panel saying they can be dyed as a glider. So my guess is a bug.

No bug. The OP is expressing that the Backpiece can not be dyed, whilst the Glider can. This is just the way Backpieces work; they have no dye channels.
The others are correct. It’s because there are no backpack dye slots. I feel your pain though, my Sylvari has a colour scheme round the same as yours, and the red wings clash something horrid with it. But hey, at least they make absolutely beautiful gliders.

Here’s my other Sylvari. Just because I wanna show off how pretty these gliders really are.
I feel your pain too. My Mesmer is all shades of soft pastels – lilacs and violets – the red back piece sticks out like a sore thumb They really should put dye channels on the back pieces that have corresponding glider skins. The moth glider has 2 dye channels, it shouldn’t be too hard to translate that automagically to the back piece for that toon, if the toon uses the same skin in both places.
Thank you for all the responses and answers. I hope some time in the future they add a correction. Even if we don’t get dye slots for back packs, but at least even an automatic “mimic” type thing where it will copy the color of your glider.
Fingers Crossed
Yeah I have same issue
If glider and backpack are indentical textures why not just make so the back takes color schematics from current glider color?
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaa I wanted to make a post about this..
So the back are red, but i can dye the glider.. Why would I dye the glider :P I mean if my back item are red then i would properly have some kind of red gear on – then its not like I wanna make a “blue” glider – to NOT match my look.
Why not the back also.

Well all the existing backpacks could just be set to “non dyeable” via a variable. I mean currently, the gliders have both dyeable and non dyeable ones, surely this is just a True/False check as to whether the glider is dyeable or not. Make all existing backpacks set to “Dyeable=False” and deal with only the new backpacks coming out with dyeable glider counterparts.
I am sooooooooooooooo in love with these wings/glider. I was very fortunate to have a character that already matched the wings somewhat. However it would have been amazing to be able to have some blue highlights.
I like the suggestion about former back pieces being tagged “not dye-able” and then having ones that can be dyed from here on.

One way they could “fix” this without reinventing backpacks is unlock multiple colors of the backpack instead of just red. Purchasing the bundle should unlock at least the base colors: red, green, blue, yellow, violet, white/light gray and black/asphalt. This way, you’re not creating dye channels where there are none, and it would make this item a lot more versatile and attractive.
