Mounts are cool.
This is not WoW, I know that, and there are no need for them due to the waypoint system but quite frankly they’re awesome. Unlike Ascended gear (I like the idea of Ascended gear) it gives you no advantage against anyone else despite a slight increase in speed which can be achieved using skills which I believe all professions have.
It would give people something to work towards without half the community raging about a “treadmill”.

a lot of people want it because the waypoint system feels strange but i feel like standing in Lions arch with everyone on mounts would be horrid i like to see everyone just walking about.
If it was a treadmill people would complain as only certain people would have them much like Legendary’s get QQ and so does Ascended items.
If it was only for higher level people whats the point? you say exploring but once I was 80 i had around 65% map exploration done and got 100% within the next 2 days and now I just roam around Orr and Lions arch and look for some groups here and there for dungeons so if it was only for 80’s there would be 0 point as you can just waypoint to exactly where you need to go for pretty much nothing. So pretty much the only time Id be on my mount is stood in Lions arch along with everyone else or every so often use it when im farming in Orr? id rather just waypoint/run as I like seeing peoples gear and other designs they have rather than there horse.
Making mounts match your normal speed would be disgusting it would be like the those Halloween broomsticks for your level 1 twinks on WoW it would look so silly.
the only way they would ever introduce mounts like Selebrity said is in the Gem store and it would be like £25-30 for one and that is if the game was doing terribly and they needed money which they don’t.

You can’t compare this to Ascended gear at all. The reason people are mad at that is because arenanet said there would be no gear treadmill. The collecting of mounts is not a treadmill in the way that it would give you an advantage over someone else.
You say it as if there would only be one mount to collect, there would be many, and the harder ones to get would be the cooler looking ones which would give people a reason to keep playing.
At the end of the day it’s something to work towards at end game without giving anyone an advantage over anyone else. I don’t see how that would ruin the game at all, it would only keep people like myself playing.

I know not all of the features appeal to every player but most do and if they dont they wouldnt be playing i mean for example if your into pvp theres WvW and Spvp etc, if your into PvE theres dungeons/fractals, if your into cosmetics theres Endless amounts of gear/armor to work towards, if your into exploring you wouldn’t want a mount to ruin the experience when i did the rest of my 100% map completion it would of made it easier but it would of taken away from so much of the experience like walking past certain towns or places that you would literally just blitz past on a mount.
Correct working towards gear gives you no advantage much like in gw1 it just makes your character look cool that’s the point its nice but there’s no need for more of it as i know once i compete set 1 i know there’s a set 2 i already have my eyes on. Adding yet another cosmetic would in my eyes be pointless as someone said a mount takes so much away from your character people just focus on your mount its like when i walk into a town on WoW and saw a mount i liked i would be like that’s nice if i saw a gear set i liked i wouldn’t really notice it as it seems so small compared to it.
so taking the above example I walk into Lions arch and see someone on a nice mount id be like WoW that’s cool next to him is a guy with a nice armor set i aint going to notice that guy there’s a huge mount on my screen! :P
You say your not 80 so are your not enjoying the expereince of having to walk everywhere personally i love that aspect.
The waypoint system doesn’t discourage people exploring its like i discovered all of Orr great i can now waypoint to places i need to because i have explored it all and gotten all the waypoints if people choose to just get points they need that’s up to them a mount wont change that, a mount won’t change people into explorers it will change them into afking in Lions arch on them.
Again you make some fair points. You listed a variety of things that people could work towards, there’s surely nothing wrong with adding one more item to that list to keep people playing. And I never gave specifics on mounts, I’m sure if they did implement it they would make the speed reasonable to that you can’t blitz past all the zones.
I don’t think the mounts would take anything away from the armour or weapons at all, it would make someone look even more awesome I think
And no running around the amazing world they created is great, doing it on a mount in my opinion would only enhance my experience.

Pretty much my stand point on this is they should never ever introduce mounts unless in the expansion they make the maps bigger so it would still feel huge when your traveling.
There is enough cosmetic that they don’t need to add it that’s the point why waste time and resources on something that is good. They could spend that money and development time on a area of the game that needs fixing instead of introducing more cosmetics that people don’t need.
See when i have gone round areas in the past on a mount it just takes away and then when i go back to the zone later on in the game im like i never noticed that as your on a mount and just were mindlessly running past it.
Personally coming from a big mount collector in WoW, i collected like 160+? spent so much gold on them and spent countless hours working towards them. I feel that mounts when there in a game are the most prestige’s objects that people notice over weapons and armor. When in Guild wars 1 weapons and armor was the most prestige’s objects and they wanted to carry that on and I feel there is no need for either mounts for a cosmetic purpose nor is there for a traveling purpose nor is there one for a combat purpose.
