The giant devour in Fireheart Rise would be an awesome mount (if not a pet).
I’m neutral on this. If mounts were introduced, cool. If not, no sleep lost.
Although the chances of seeing them in game, is probably lower than precursor RNG.
And my point is that the “design” it purely focused around sPvP and to a much lesser degree WvW, PvE being an afterthought

and that the goal of any option to give yourself Swiftness is to allow you to reach a moving opponent easier, escape a moving opponent easier, reach a PvP capture point faster, or more actively dodge ground effects, and any benefit it may provide in crossing a map are purely a side effect and not even considered in balance calculations.

So long as mounts are not available in sPvP, they are incapable of impacting balance in any way that ANet has ever cared about.

Just imagine how cool it could have been if net actually ran with the mourdrem tendril plot and had like 50% of all waypoints destroyed in the game. Mounts would suddenly be something more people would be willing to discuss. I’ve never been a pro mount person myself, I’m rather indifferent to it. However, with the state of the game being what it is, destroying 50% of the waypoints and adding mounts would of added awesome new experiences to the game.
I was never in favour of air-breathing mermaid solutions (those that are meant to combat a problem that didn’t exist before). I don’t consider destroing 50% of waypoints as “cool”, therefore using it as an argument to introduce mounts for me is going to have an opposite effect. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

So I have to say something about it and it’s not trash talking to waste your time. I have seen that all this mounts topics are closed by GM because people are opening the idea and say nothing about it. I’m an person who wants mounts in the game and I have a reasons why I want them.
1) You can collect them
2) They will look epic and with gw2 engine in game it would be awesome experience to have and to ride them around the Tyria
3) You go and explore faster with your epic mount and it will be more enjoyable then running and porting around
4) For longer trips get birds that carry you around or even better, the ships that you see in the game. for example in the new map, in arah dungeon story mode (this is the answer for people who will say that’s boring to ride all day long)
5) gw2 is beautiful game and we go across it just porting on those waypoints, yeah so much epicness in that. You have loading screen with picture and that’s it
6) You can made diffrerent mounts speed for lower or bigger levels (60%) for lower and (100%) for higher levels
7) Mount can be shown as an effort you put in the game, something like legendarys. If you’re a hardcore player you will probably have some epic mount, much color, much epicness, much speed, much girls and so on
This were a few ideas I have in my mind at this moment. Probably I could come with something more but this is just for beginning. For all of you who agree or disagree on this I respect your opinion but if you don’t have nothing normal to say on this topic please don’t say anything ! No need for countless comments that don’t have solid opinion on this subject.
No, personally, i think If we EVER get Mounts, they should only be for WvW, and ONLY for WvW, but you would move ONLY 15% faster, with some additional armor, as a war machine hound.
For PVE?? No ty, you have WP, you are already FAST enough on your own skill based..
Dont make this game mountable, than it’s all Anet effort into PvE lost..

Now only question is, are GW2 strong enough to handle mounts without stressing? Since now minions are hidden when there’s too many players on one location.
Minions and pets take up a secondary spot/path to a player’s character, current mounts like WvW golem, scorps, and gem store mounts seem to work real well.
I look forward to anet expanding on those mounts.

If you introduce permanent mounts that are only available by chance and whose drops only come from black lion chests you’re going to resurrect the Witch Trials and the French Revolution in one go. Everyone is already fed up with how much stuff is gem store only and they pushed key farming back even further. I can see the temptation for mounts, but the world is way too small for them. It would be a vanity item that would rub way too many people (that just won’t ever have the chance for one) in a very bad way.
Why when mounts come up, a bunch of people pop in with “well, if they release them in the worst and most idiotic way they possibly could, then people won’t like them?”
The simple solution to that, I feel, is to just not introduce them in the worst and most idiotic way possible.

That was fairly clearly a reply to the OP’s proposal of releasing them in that manner, which is the majority of the OP’s point. Ergo Eirdyne had to “pop in” with that reply, it goes directly to the post.
How about people STOP making Mount Threads and use the ones that are littered across the forums.

So, currently, there are no mounts in Guild Wars 2 that increase speed (There is the broom and the mat). Is there a plan to add mounts that allow the user to travel places faster. I understand that there are currently other methods of travel, such as waypoints and Asura gates. However, if one is going for map completion, it would be beneficial to have a mount, as it would allow them to complete the map faster. Also, if one is too poor to use waypoints(no idea how that’s possible, but hypothetically), it would be nice to use mounts.
They have no plans to do so.
Mounts to make us travel faster is not what this game needs at all. So many other things anet should prioritize over features for lazy people :P

I play a game with mounts It get very costly to use them even though it does increase speed by 25%.

the waypoint system is okay, but it does break immersion, I use them usually only if I have to, why not have mounts? not flying ones, just like standard, hell if they only increased speed by like 10% it would still be great, and id buy one.
Here is a new idea to slap on mounts based on speed as the motivator.
The way it would work is that the mounts would get an incredible speed boost of 100% and if you get near or are riding with another person on a mount you would slow down to 20% and if you get near another you would slow down another 15% and so on. Anything more than 5 man party would actually make you go slower mounted than walking on foot. A five man party would give 25% speed as long as they stay together, once they split they would again gain speed buffs based on how many was riding together.
The only way you could get this mount would be to have a Gift of Exploration(so at least one toon would have to have 100% map so no cheating on map completion on your first toon. On the other hand once its made it would be account bound and alts could use it to map) one of the gem store mounts like the broom or flying carpet, 250 of the speed boosters from the gem store and one other ingredient like for instance 100 Laurels or 250 Mystic Coins. I am not sure that this should be the actual recipe to upgrade the mount in the Mystic Forge, just laying down some ideas as a place holder.
This idea is based on the fact that the meta-Zerg mentality would not work with these speed buffs that you get from the upgraded mounts. Giving people a reason to run smaller groups to take advantage of the buffs.

You know guys, there are multiple methods in the game currently to obtain a speed boost. A mount is not required to move faster than normal. Try using a trait, a utility skill, a weapon skill, rune sets, or Lord forbid, a speed boost from the gem store/black lion chests.
Mounts are cool. I get it. But ANet does not want to go that route. At least, they have made no sign that they want to as of yet.

Anybody in this thread that can prove Anet said no then prove it by linking to your evidence or if Anet themselves wants to comment with a resounding no then and only then will I believe your hearsay comments. Otherwise anyone who plays the game has a right to have their voice heard and use the forum as that means to get that job done on both sides of the table without being rude to the other.
Don’t think that one side has more power and can just demand that they go play another game. The people asking for mounts in the traditional speed buff sense are GW players too, so don’t just claim that we are all united to one minded view when we clearly are not.
The only “proof” I can give is the game itself. We have various means in game of increasing our speed without the help of mounts, and the fact that they have not given us any mounts that increase speed, nor have they made mention (although, would they really mention it?) of adding such a thing, this tells me for the time being, the systems they already have in place are all we are going to have.
They may release them one day. It’s entirely possible. It is also entirely possible we will never see speed increasing mounts in the game. Only time will tell.
Personally, I think the game is fine without them. With the combination of speed boosts available and waypoint unlocks, I get around fairly fast on all my characters. And now with the new teleport consumable, you can port right to party members. Granted, that thing is locked behind RNG…

You can show your dead horse animation all you want but you are going to keep seeing people ask because there’s always going to be someone else that wants mounts.
As for the alleged multiple ways of getting speed boosts, mesmers have one skill tied to an offhand weapon and that skill is the only one with a bandaid “fix” which further cripples its use. The only other way mesmers can obtain permanent swiftness uptime is to build for it. I know I can’t be the only one that finds it beyond stupid to be expected to slot my combat traits, runes and sigils for moving around outside of combat. That will never be an acceptable solution.
If they truly don’t want us to have mounts than they need to fix it so every profession has at least one weapon skill, one utility and one trait that work in such a way that two can be combined to obtain permanent swiftness. Let the players decide which two they want of if they prefer to use sigils and runes to do it.
If they want a real “bandaid” fix, they could easily create a backpiece that has selectable stats and gives 25% movement speed increase out of combat. Then make an ascended version that requires a legendary’s worth of materials but has a 33% increase. It would easily become the most sought after item in game.
No, Anet doesn’t “have” to do anything.
Once a permanent 33% speed boost becomes possible through traits/skills/utilities, then it becomes the new norm. What’s to stop players then asking for a 50% speed skill / trait?
That you have to trait / rune for speed boost is to prevent power creep. You have to give up something to gain speed. Slotting runes that give you permanent speed boost means you forgo things like increased damage / critical chance / ferocity / condition damage. I.E you forgo combat effectiveness to gain speed. Strength runes give you increased combat strength at the expense of toughness and vitality, Melandru runes give you increased survivability at the expense of combat strength.
That being said, I do agree that the mesmers got the short end of the stick in regards to getting swiftness from utilities.
