Cmon Anet just put a Mount in Gem Store. Maybe a white Horse and a Black Turtle?

There is mounts in gem store. The broom and the carpet. If you want more mounts then people should buy them more to show arena net they want them. I don’t see many people use broom or carpet though. So maybe people do not really want gem store mounts. Who is to know?

I wouldn’t call it mounts (broom and the carpet), i would call it toys coz they aren’t give you the speed bonus ;/

Many players on that mount in a map would maybe cause performance problem because extra graphics. If there is a place to hide all mount in settings then let people ride that mount. Then we don’t see it and it is not a problem for performance. But then maybe people cry about not having other people see their elite mount.

To have people gliding along in a sitting position instead? Yeah, that won’t look peculiar at all. (and no, I doubt they would go to the trouble of making them have running animations instead as that is even more work for the servers).

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Like I said before in this thread. Arguing for or not for mounts is a waste of time because arena net already knows about mounts. I talked about abilty to turn mounts off because when other people mention FPS problems with mounts people for mounts say it can be turned off. That is why I discuss that option. I see it as a problem to. But this argument will not make arena net add mounts or not. Just a waste of peoples time.

Visual clutter.
Subjective, invalid.

Clipping issues galore.
Already exist on mass and they wont be fixed, so who cares.
Subjective, invalid.

Extra data processing for no in-game benefit.
Like all kinds of Skins, Races, Minies and Mail Carrier. Since none of them is adding “in-game benefit” only “extra data processing” they should get rid of them all. We would look all the same, but better performance yay!
Charater models, minies etc already get lowered/hidden if necessary.
Invalid.

Adding in-game benefits breaks profession balance.
Adding QoL breaks balance? Little hint: No!
Invalid.

Screws with selecting targets.
Neither it affects using Tab nor manually clicking.
Invalid.

Opens up debate for more related crap to get added that was previously agreed on would not be added.
Opinions may change over time. Mounts would be implementable without affecting balance or the immersion-bubble of all those whiners, while creating another cashcow for ANet.

Serious waste of developer time.
Creating things to sell them for money is what developers do. So if it brings money, its no waste of time – e.g. Minies, Outfits, Mail Carrier, Skins etc.
Invalid.

And again nothing more than dummy arguments and jealousy from the opponents.

So people who have older rigs who can run the game will have no choice but to upgrade or buy a new rig that the added clutter mounts would bring. You have stated your opinion, zero facts.

Mounts(with perma swiftness) would make waypoints some what redundant. Unless you are doing across the world travel. This would remove a gold sink, not a big one, but a sink none the less. It would also mean players who do not have mounts could miss out on events as a zurg of mounted players run around the map doing events/champs. Training mobs in to other players.

I personally see these as valid reasons not to have them. Also if the riding broom and carpet where.big sellers, I’m sure we would have.a lot.more.in the gem store, but I’m guessing that only having the two means they don’t sell well. And if people really wanted mounts that bad they’d have them and be riding around on them, but I’ve seen 1 riding broom and 1 carpet in the close to 3 years I’ve played this game. (I’m not counting the NPC on a broom in LA)

Magic carpet is already in the game, why haven’t you upgraded to a new rig yet?

I have a new rig, parts in my sig. I was playing devils advocate for the people out there on old PC’s, and as I said, hardly anyone used the “mounts” that are In the gem store now.

Why haven’t they upgraded to new rigs for the magic carpets that is already out?

How many player use magic carpet in game? Almost no one. I see maybe one player a month use it. So I guess you say no one will use mounts to. So no reason for mount because no player really use the ones already there. See if almost everyone uses magic carpet there might be some problem with FPS. You think if you win argument about mount arena net will add them. But you only win argument in your own mind.

Keep wasting your time like everyone else that argue about for or against mounts. This thread started 2 years ago and no mounts with expansion. Maybe next expansion in 3 years there will be mounts.

Some people think mount argument is PvP. This 2 year old thread is really a waste of my time. So I will not post any more. Best wishes to every one for or against having a mount.

Like you ride the magic carpet around all over the place? You probably don’t much like most others don’t from what I see. Maybe one person a month I see on carpet mount. So if you want mount buy the carpet and broom and ride ways. Make a statement about how people want to buy and ride mount. Maybe make a video of it. Or stop crying because most in this thread do not agree with you. You are only winning your debate in your own mind. You can cry all day, “not fair because people are selfish” all you want. arena net knows about mounts. So cry all day and every day and see where it gets you so far after 2 years of mount argument. Like this mount argument is a waste of time over 2 years. So if you want to cry about it and say not fair because “people are selfish” then too bad. This argument is way too over kill. Boring. No mounts in heart of thorn. maybe 2 or more year in next expansion but maybe not. So cry all you want for mounts or for not mounts.

Everyone arguing here is wasting their time because after over 2 years it has not changed a thing. if arena net thinks mounts should be good they will. because I am sure they have read all these arguments for and not for mount many times.

I will follow this thread because it is really funny to watch peoples heads explode over mounts. I like seeing the anger and hostile over something about mounts that arena net already knows about and will do or not after many years of argument on forum. Good fun.

So please keep crying for or not for mount. I need to have entertainment. It is fun to watch everyone do mental gymnastic.

So if Mounts worked exactly like Magic carpets and had a description called Toy, you would be okay with them?

If they conferred no benefit whatsoever, and just were a vanity item that didn’t even change the size of the character hit box (like the current broom/carpet)? Yeah, i wouldn’t be strongly opposed to that. On the other hand i do remember, than in threads that started with asking about purely visual mounts, after few pages the very same people usually start saying that speed boosts are a matter of course (and it’s good if they stick to +33% boost, instead of claiming that +100% or even more should be a baseline).

  • +25% movement speed won’t break balance. Just wear a Traveler runes or a speed signet. They can also disable it in WvW.

See? It didn’t even take you one page to migrate from “the same as magic carpet” to “speed boosts are not a big deal”.

Magic carpet is already in the game, why haven’t you upgraded to a new rig yet?

Because almost noone is using them. Which pretty much answers the question about how many people want them.

Magic carpet, magic broom, etc. should have an auto enable option when out of combat. It’s because it is a hassle to re-enable it each time a random skritt on the map decides to throw a pebble at you while wandering the map. Sometimes I wonder if arenanet is thinking BOTH as a player and as a businessman. EASE OF USE = INCREASE IN SALES OF MOUNTS. And get this, they have NPCs wandering around Lion’s Arch riding magic brooms to encourage players to buy these mounts. Do you even play your own game arenanet? “Oh it’s hard to implement this, you have to make lots of programming code to do this.” sigh Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best solutions, and the complicated solutions are not necessarily the best. When you activate a toy, you get a buff for 30 minutes, and this buff will automatically transform you into mount form when out of combat. When you activate the toy again, you remove this buff. It’s already there, don’t you see. When you use the Aviator’s Memory Box or the Bobblehead Laboratory, you get a buff that affects you temporarily, albeit it’s only a visual effect and you alone see it. You can modify it so instead of a visual effect, it will become a transformation effect (for the mounts). So even though a skritt farted in your general direction and the server thought this was an act of aggression and it set you into combat mode, you can easily get back to mount form after a second or two.

So with your own logic, if classes can have perma swiftness with little effort, why do we need mounts?

Only some classes have easy access and QoL in general, even for classes with rather easy access.

Guardian for example has to use two shouts and staff #4 to keep swiftness up all time.
Mesmer needs healing mantra with Rune of the Centaur, since focus swiftness doesn’t stack.
Necro needs Spectral Walk and Locust Swarm, while risking that Locust Swarm puts him infight, if he gets too near a mob.
Ranger needs to trait Resounding Timbre, a low cd shout e.g. Healing Shout and Warhorn #5.

Why being forced to do all that effort to keep up in PvE? What if I would rather like to play another build without being punished for that?
Mounts with perma swiftness or a PvE-wide +33% swiftness mastery would solve that.

I like the coconut idea. AoE perma swiftness for e.g. 5 ppl with clip clop sounds. Would accept this too instead of a Hoverboard.

And all ppl frequently using the “not often seen carpets” as argument, that ppl don’t want mounts: Stop it, it doesn’t prove anything. I already said, these toys are crippling your movment speed, since you can’t use weapons or utility skills or need to frequently mount and dismount to apply swiftness.
I did this quite a while with the tunneling tool, but after a while I got annoyed from mounting and dismounting every few seconds.

Now if Anet would put a carpet/hoverboard/coconuts or whatever with +33% swiftness in gemstore (remember, toys already can’t be used in PvP/WvW) and it would not sell well, then you can say ppl don’t want mounts.

If a guy leaves perma-swiftness outside his character build is because he is choosing to privilege other area in his gameplay style rather than traveling speed. Being slower is the price for this, and he is choosing to pay it. Choosing being the key word here. Choice: when you can’t have it all. Balance revolves around choices too, and in this case we are clearly talking about PvE too, because WPs are more prominent here.

If mounts were able to give perma-swiftness, suddenly all the builds that lean towards traveling speed would become a no-choice. Everyone would ditch traveling speed for something else, and mounts will become mandatory for any build to be decent. They would become way more important than Legendaries in seconds.

IMO, this game makes a very good work balancing exploration and fighting THROUGH CHOICES. 33% speed through an ITEM will totally destroy it. That’s not QoL.

TLDR:
To the people who want to have it ALL, power AND speed, through an item.
To the people who want everything easy, WITHOUT HAVING TO CHOOSE.

Excessive hyperbole aside…

Why, yes, some people would choose to abandon Swiftness builds and Traveler runes. They would, quite rightly, make other choices for things they actually want. Having a universal speed improvement would increase build diversity.

IMO, this game makes a very good work balancing exploration and fighting THROUGH CHOICES. 33% speed through an ITEM will totally destroy it. That’s not QoL.

Considering the main problem is limited to:

  • Open-world PvE
  • Out of combat
Then, yes, I’d call it a Quality of Life improvement.

I can see the argument against letting players just willynilly have speed bonuses, so the method of distribution would have to be set in a way that players earn that bonus. As possibilities:

  • Map/Zone completion; Speed bonus contingent on finishing a zone
  • Reward for 100% World Completion; Possibly Account-based item
  • New Masteries for world travel. They’re already considering this as an option in cities with the Pact Commander/Mentor system.

I’d be more reluctant to offer it as a purchase in the gem store or even for gold at a vendor, though that would be more equitable.

Many alts; handle it!

What is the choice there? Do you understand that meaninful choices imply having to pick one thing INSTEAD of another, not getting both?

Considering the main problem is limited to:

  • Open-world PvE

Then, yes, I’d call it a Quality of Life improvement.

Now I get it. You dont enjoy exploring at all. Wandering through the map is just a time gate for you. You don’t even consider it part of the game, much less a valid counterpoint to killing things. Or am I wrong?

In this case Waypoints don’t make sense, since they allow you to skip parts of the map – without “enjoying them”. Even the possibility of achievable perma swiftness would be conflictive.

Nevertheless Waypoints and perma swiftness exist, so ANet gives us the possibility to speed up our traveling.
Why not making it more comfortable for everyone?

Again:
Adding PvE-mounts do not:
- affect/break balance
- make Waypoints unnecessary
- affect performance negatively (Mini-restrictions used)

It does add:
- Quality of Life
- Build Diversity
- Equality

If a guy leaves perma-swiftness outside his character build is because he is choosing to privilege other area in his gameplay style rather than traveling speed. Regarding in-combat mobility you are right. If someone wants perma swiftness there, he needs to build for it.
Movement speed while in combat without swiftness or 25% Runes/Sigil is awful imo.
Even if I had a mount with perma swiftness I would still use Streamlined Kits on my Eningeer.
But combat is not affected by mounts, so you still have to make the choice based on combat.

Also the upcoming mastery with +33% swiftness in cities conflicts with your argumentation.
Why should a slow class be on pair with a fast class in cities? They didn’t build for it.
You may say “Because both earned/trained it.”, but where is the differenct between training a mastery for more QoL and investing Gems for more QoL – everyone has the choice.

And all ppl frequently using the “not often seen carpets” as argument, that ppl don’t want mounts: Stop it, it doesn’t prove anything.

Of course it does – it shows, that contrary to what people say in topics like that, they are not interested in mounts that offer no advantage. Which of course means that there is no real middle ground for people to agree on.
Which is why i am against mounts.

False, they would offer no advantages, if you could use weapon and utility skills (ooc) while being mounted.
This is not the case, you need to dismount/get dismounted in order to use these, so the current mounts are actually offering disadvantages and thats why nearly none uses them frequently.

NO.

Well, not exactly, because if they were like the mounts in WoW (if I remember correctly), you wouldn’t be able to mount-up in combat.

So, any mount swiftness would only benefit people in getting from A to B, out of combat.

Or, at least, if they were originally out of combat, when they mounted up.

Admittedly, current swiftness in this game is of limited use, in combat (unless, presumably, you are on a stealth class), as you are slowed anyway; but it’s still marginally better than nothing.

What they could do is make non-mounted swiftness in combat slightly better, to make up for it.

So, you know, if you wanted to (for example) try to run from a fight, you would have slightly more chance of making it.

Then, non-mount swiftness would still be a valuable asset.

Also, I think they would have to give everyone access to, at least, a basic mount for free, or a very nominal price.

They could charge more for fancier mounts, but some sort of functioning mount would have to be provided to all, pretty much as standard.

What is the choice there? Do you understand that meaningful choices imply having to pick one thing INSTEAD of another, not getting both?

The only reason Swiftness has meaning is to traverse the map. Quality of Life choice.

If there’s additional meaning, then it must be in combat, which is not what’s being requested. (I mean, there’s the silly mounted combat stuff, but I draw the line well before then.)

Not to mention, speed traits only make up one, maybe two, pieces of a build.
First, those builds would still be useful in mass-combat movement and combat position. In combat.
Second, it’s not as if the trait lines that have speed boosts wouldn’t be used. To say so is fear-mongering and hyperbole. Players would gratefully and simply pick another trait or trait line. That’s it. It won’t corrode the entirety of the game to allow that in out of combat PvE.

There is otherwise no reason to exclude a player from reaching an event point beyond “I don’t want to lose my loot to someone else,” but I think that’s what I’m seeing here.

It’s not even about mounts, but quality of life.

Now I get it. You don’t enjoy exploring at all. Wandering through the map is just a time gate for you. You don’t even consider it part of the game, much less a valid counterpoint to killing things. Or am I wrong?

You’re wrong. Just so it’s clear. That cutesy statement about when you “assume” applies here.

I’ve gotten a 100% world clear (before the WvW change), so it’s not like I haven’t done it. It even says in the title: Been There. Done That. And I enjoyed it. I’ve gone back on alts to re-explore in between Personal Story points, getting lost in events and gathering along the way. The novelty has worn off a little, obviously, but that’s because it’s hard to “explore” everything all over again, but I still wander over to events to help out.

And that brings it full circle. With some characters like my guardians or mesmers, I just can’t get to some events in time. My participation is excluded because of my class or build choice, when it shouldn’t be. Nor should I have to endure my mesmer’s constant prattle because he got yet-another buff from Signet of Inspiration, just so he could have Swiftness. So yeah, speed boost is quality of life.

Many alts; handle it!

Oh God, yeah, that’s awful.

You can turn down “dialog volume”, in options, which helps a lot

Obviously, it means all the other voices are also quieter, but still.

Personally, I think they should just drop (or, at least, greatly reduce) the voice stuff from that particular utility, as it’s totally excessive as it is.

Invalid.

Since ANet has been pretty adamant about not needing mounts because of waypoints, if they added them it would be for cosmetic reasons only. The only problem with your argument is that minis, character models, etc. getting lowered does not change stride. “Oops there are too many mounts on the page so people start falling to the ground.” At best it would even limit the number of minis etc even further on a map at worst it would just limit the number of actual players on a map. So your argument here is subjective and therefore invalid.

Adding in-game benefits breaks profession balance.
Adding QoL breaks balance? Little hint: No!
Invalid.

It being a “QoL improvement” is your opinion. Subjective. Invalid.

Opens up debate for more related crap to get added that was previously agreed on would not be added.
Opinions may change over time. Mounts would be implementable without affecting balance or the immersion-bubble of all those whiners, while creating another cashcow for ANet.

Resorting to name calling doesn’t make your argument valid. Opinions just as easily may NOT change over time. Since I am almost sure you are not an ANet dev, forgive me if I don’t take your word on whether or not mounts could be implemented without affecting balance. And those that feel it would break their immersion in the game have as much right to feel that way as you do for wanting mounts. Yes, it may be a cash generator for ANet, but I am sure they can come up with ways to make money just as easily with mounts as without.

Serious waste of developer time.
Creating things to sell them for money is what developers do. So if it brings money, its no waste of time – e.g. Minies, Outfits, Mail Carrier, Skins etc.
Invalid.

Again, I’m sure you have no clue what the programmers have to deal with in terms of adding mounts, maintaining, and dealing with mounts, so you have no idea if it would be cost effective or not. Minies, Outfits, Mail Carriers, Skins etc. do not affect skills and game play. So as you are so fond of saying. Invalid.

And again nothing more than dummy arguments and jealousy from the opponents.

Rude no basis opinions on your part. Invalid.

NO to Mounts!!!!!!!!! Want mounts? Go play some of the many other games with mounts in them or go play GW1 and find a wurm in Nightfall. GAME ON

How can you say NO to mounts just like that, many people would like mounts.

I don’t like jumping puzzles or flying gliding jump pads, or whatever it is, doesn’t mean I just say NO to them, many people enjoy them.

Then as I said go to a game that has mounts in them….problem solved WP’s and skill buffs are enough for GW2. Buy Nightfall if you don’t want to buy the 3 + expansion of GW1, you get wurm travel tho it is limited.
And the things you mentioned, jumping puzzles etc is already implemented in the game. So I can and will always say NO to mounts they weren’t in GW1 (wurms don’t really count) and just don’t belong in GW2. GAME ON
P.S. to the OP as well, I’m sorry to be so blunt but for every person that has or will quit any game there will be 3+ who join, so to many MMO’s the loss is minimal.

Well, it’s not “problem solved”, as some people will like this game in most other ways, so they will want mounts added to this game.

Not to be told to go and play another game.

If they don’t implement mounts here, maybe some people will go and play other games (maybe some already have); but that doesn’t mean that a helpful answer, on here, is just to tell people to go and do that.

Also, I doubt very much that 3+ people will, normally, join for every one lost.

Unless some other factor(s) are in play, at the time.

I would say it’s more likely to be the other way around, if anything.

Magic Carpet, Drill, and Broom

A Mount is a cosmetic item meant to fluff up playtime through collection and end game content rewards. Any games with mounts will generally have multiple methods of travel.

In GW2 we have three items already so the question becomes in a Cash Shop style game why they don’t sell more items in the same scheme as the Carpet, Drill, and Broom?

I use the broom on my asura because she is dressed like a witch. I’m pretty sure that the reason the mount lovers don’t buy what is already available is because they aren’t over the top “hey look at me…. please please look at me” or have a speed boost that would wreak the class balance.

I’m going to go with theme this game does have many items to create certain themes for your characters. AS the poster said they use the broom since there dressed like a Witch. As for myself my logging tool, mini pet, back item, and finisher all share a particular theme. This theme doesn’t carry over with any legendaries, mail carriers, mini mounts, harvesters, or mining tools and if they existed i would indeed buy them however they do not and thus I don’t buy the items.

If Anet spent more time completing sets they started already like Jack in the Box, Frost Wasp, or even things to complement finishers and mail carries I think they’d see more sales for mount style items. If they add them then they need to flood the game with them like other games.

I stopped playing this game about a year ago. Decided to come back, have a look, see if anything changed. What do I see? a " Mounts" thread.

I have no idea how long this game has been running… but..No Mounts in all this time should be a Bit of a hint.

Many say " they said " No Mounts at launch" or… they never said NO"

Many people have their hopes up, because the devs say things Like." No mounts …at this time."

What people do not understand is, they are keeping their options open, but… More Importantly, they are not kittening off all the " we want mounts" people.

If in 2 or 3 years we have not had mounts… I would assume that Kinda says how much importance they place on mounts. secondly the Broom isn’t a Mount, it doesn’t behave like a mount, it doesn’t serve the functions of a Mount , it is basically a toy.

The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.

You don’t need to be an employee of ANet to think about possible consequences of the implementation.

What could happen?
Breaking immersion? Option to hide exist.
Affecting performance? Could be the case. How much? We dont know. Options to lower this impact? Existent.
Affecting PvE balance (because ppl in PvE get comfortable, not even necessarily faster, from A to B )? No, or show me how exactly this would be the case.

What crossed my mind, there are actually already “mounts” with a continuous movement speed increase: The kites from Silverwastes.
It’s only 5% without the sandstorm and therefore still a disadvantage using them outside of Silvewastes sandstorm.

But basically everything to implement mounts is already in the game:
- Mount-frame with increased movement speed
- Option to hide animations/objects on characters
- Option to improve performance impacts

What misses is just a skin for the mount.

Now you may say, if there’s everything available, but ANet still didn’t give us useful mounts, they simply don’t want them.
Maybe you’re right, but as long as I didn’t see an official response from ANet, clearly stating that there will never be mounts, I don’t give up asking for them.
And therefore I will keep this thread alive, making ppl remind of mounts just by seeing the thread title here and there.
Eventually this will be successful and ANet will give as a not-crippled mount-like thingy.

Does the other games have Charr, Kryta, Magumma, Elder Dragons, Guild Wars 2 in them? I don’t think they do.

But mounts are sacrosanct. Sine qua non. Can’t play without them. Therefore, go elsewhere and find them.

•I haven’t seen Magic carpet clutter up Divinity’s Reach. Maybe something went wrong?

Namely, a carpet doesn’t look like a massive monster, so it appealed to almost no one. High-magic in this game has a decidedly technological bent, so flying carpets don’t particularly fit. Change that to a riding golem like Taime’s and the equation changes.

•I don’t mind clipping. I don’t see why you should mind it.

I give a kitten less about clipping But I don’t see why you shouldn’t mind it when it happens on a large obvious scale.

I am going to look at the butt of the mount anyways 90% of the time, not the legs.

To borrow from Connery, “Whatever you gentlemen felt for each other when your friend was still alive… is certainly none of my affair.”

•Like minis? Okay.

I’m not arguing pro-mini. I’m arguing against mounts.

•+25% movement speed won’t break balance. Just wear a Traveler runes or a speed signet. They can also disable it in WvW.

To get 25% movement rate via runes means giving up better options. No such trade-off for mounts giving speed boosts.

•Lol what crap.

I’d think you would stand by your own post at least until you finished it.

•800 gems to buy one isn’t a waste of time.

Fixing all the complaints about the clipping that you choose to ignore, the balance issues you think don’t exist, exclusives, complaints about exclusives…. yeah, no headaches coming there

•Eats a food

takes another drink last one for you though

A good mount without having a huge advantage over the NPCs is get De-mounted if engaged in combat, Give a temporary boost of swiftness for a short time by a skill if your on the mount on top of that Cool Down Function and to prevent the player from re-mounting during combat. This should be applied if it was allowed in WvW as I mentioned above to give no advantage over the players to knock them off there mount once get pulled into combat state or only allow mounts in PvE but ban all mounts from being used in PvP or WvW.

I don’t know if Arena Net’s intention for no mounts in Guild Wars 2 is beacuse it gives a huge advantage over everything, But if you was to heavily restrain the mount and limit its capabilities it can be a fair mount without a huge advantage.

You don’t need to be an employee of ANet to think about possible consequences of the implementation.

No you don’t for the “possible consequences” but you make statements concerning these things as if they are either easy or already implemented.

What could happen?
Breaking immersion? Option to hide exist.

LOL. So instead of seeing mounts we see a lot of people floating around in the air? Oh, that doesn’t break immersion… (insert sarcasm). Hiding minis does not affect the movement and model of the player character. Mounts would. Hiding a mounted creature would be a very different prospect than hiding a mini.

Affecting performance? Could be the case. How much? We dont know. Options to lower this impact? Existent.

How do you know if it exists? If you are talking about being able to hide minis, then it doesn’t equate to the same thing. Mini’s have no impact on combat and have no skill sets and have no bearing on movement. They are cosmetic only. Other than the mini’s example, you don’t know if the ability to lower the impact for mounts exists or not.

Affecting PvE balance (because ppl in PvE get comfortable, not even necessarily faster, from A to B )? No, or show me how exactly this would be the case.

Exactly how would you be more “comfortable” traveling from A to B? And other than cosmetic reasons, why do you need mounts if they don’t offer speed, boons or skills?

What crossed my mind, there are actually already “mounts” with a continuous movement speed increase: The kites from Silverwastes.
It’s only 5% without the sandstorm and therefore still a disadvantage using them outside of Silvewastes sandstorm.

They are not mounts. They are speed boosts, that are not as good as a speed booster from the gem shop or any of the skills/traits that boost speed. Toons also do not ride these things and therefore the model is still in running mode. The kites are basically toys that provide a terrible speed boost and eliminate your skills until dropped.

But basically everything to implement mounts is already in the game:
- Mount-frame with increased movement speed
- Option to hide animations/objects on characters
- Option to improve performance impacts

What misses is just a skin for the mount.

- Frames exist, but the speed boost is the unnecessary and unfair advantage so many are disagreeing with throughout the thread.
- Since these affect the actual player toon model, you cannot claim that the ability to hide it exists. You cannot know that.
- The option to improve performance impacts on toons have existed since day one, but doesn’t give unfair advantage as mounts would. If I am forced to ride a mount in order to keep up, it is not fair.

Now you may say, if there’s everything available, but ANet still didn’t give us useful mounts, they simply don’t want them.

I use the Magic Carpet, I could not before beacuse of the arm bug but after they fixed it, I am using it more often on my mesmer.

Hiding minis does not affect the movement and model of the player character. Mounts would. Hiding a mounted creature would be a very different prospect than hiding a mini.

Did you ever see the Aviator’s Memory Box? Your character goes into an airplane-like position with his arms, wears an Aviator Cap and makes brooom-sounds. You can even fight while this transformation is on you.
BUT you’re the only one actually seeing it, to other player you look normal, with all the regular animations.

So replacing animations, like Aviator’s Memory Box, with the regular walking animations is already in the game. Hiding the e.g. “standing on a Hoverboard”-animation would just be the same.

We were talking about PvE-Mounts with perma swiftness, not usable in combat (means dismounted if put in combat). And with the Aviator’s Memory Box-hiding-option it would just be like the mini-hiding. Too much going on on the screen? Hide the mounts, replace animations with regular walking/running.

Exactly how would you be more “comfortable” traveling from A to B? And other than cosmetic reasons, why do you need mounts if they don’t offer speed, boons or skills?

I spoke about perma swiftness on mounts, basically saving you time needed to change from a “no perma swiftness”-build to a perma swiftness-build – even if this only means to take a warhorn out of your inventory.
With a mount as easy perma swiftness-source there would be no need to click all your swiftness-skills to maintain perma swiftness on your own. Its just saving time and clicking-effort, thats it.
Of course e.g. warriors with a mobility-build aka sword/warhorn + GS would still be faster than mounts, due to their leap skills on top of perma swiftness.

Convenience item for comfortable PvE-traveling, nothing more.

I only wanted to point out that there already is a frame/code-chunk for the basic function of mounts. Deactivating your skills, putting you into a specific position/animation set (holding kite) and providing a speed boost.

Thats what a mount does, admittedly the kite is a bad one with only 5%.

The boost (perma swiftness) is not unfair, since every class can get perma swiftness on its own. Mesmer (for worst case example) would have to use Runes and the healing mantra – basically gold for a second armor/runes and bag slots for the armor, as well as time to change the armor/utility. And you would still be able to blink around, speeding up the traveling even more.

With a mount you spent a much bigger amount of gold or real money to save some armor/weapon-changing-time, some space in your bag if second armor is needed and the repetitive spamming of your skills.

I admire your enthusiasm and tenacity, but Anet did address why there were no mounts (waypoints). So I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting if I were you.

There seem to be as many if not more who do not want mounts, so at least right now, it doesn’t look promising for you. And I will admit I am glad for that.

I highly doubt that the average casual player, who is willing to spend some money on the gem shop, is wasting his time in the forums, if the game is running.
And the few with enough bravery to open a mount thread get immediately jumped and flamed by the same slavering mob of ppl. I guess they visit the forum never again.

I still have the impression most of the mount hater don’t even know what we are talking about. They just read mounts and go into ragemode like fanatics coming up with the same arguments over and over again, while the solution for this issue was posted few posts before.

Yeah, cause the are already in the game.

Since mounts are not yet in game, you cannot claim they are not already there.

So replacing animations, like Aviator’s Memory Box, with the regular walking animations is already in the game. Hiding the e.g. “standing on a Hoverboard”-animation would just be the same.

Again that is replacing running toon animation with running toon animation. That is not toon on a completely different character object. All other items that carry or toons such as the magic carpet and flying broom are seen by everyone. It is no longer the character moving but being carried by something else.

This just goes back to other previous statement. We do not need mounts for swiftness in or out of combat. We have waypoints, skills and traits for that. And also, this is NOT the same as using the aviator’s memory box.

See answer above. No need for perma swiftness.

I only wanted to point out that there already is a frame/code-chunk for the basic function of mounts. Deactivating your skills, putting you into a specific position/animation set (holding kite) and providing a speed boost.

Thats what a mount does, admittedly the kite is a bad one with only 5%.

That maybe what you want in a mount, but that certainly is not true of all pro-mount people. Many if not most want mount skills, etc. Again, for you it comes down to a wanted swiftness boost which we already have. Why would they want to risk more in-game lag and performance ganks to add something that is only cosmetic and provides speed boosts that already exist?

The boost (perma swiftness) is not unfair, since every class can get perma swiftness on its own. Mesmer (for worst case example) would have to use Runes and the healing mantra – basically gold for a second armor/runes and bag slots for the armor, as well as time to change the armor/utility. And you would still be able to blink around, speeding up the traveling even more.

With a mount you spent a much bigger amount of gold or real money to save some armor/weapon-changing-time, some space in your bag if second armor is needed and the repetitive spamming of your skills.

You just proved my point here an above. Every class can get a movement boost without a mount. Those with mounts that could afford them (even if they wanted to see them in game which I personally don’t) would have the unfair advantage of not having to change their builds by riding mounts. They also would not be using waypoints which helps regulate gold in game to a degree.

That just isn’t true. Just as it wouldn’t be true if I said that all pro-mount people just wanted a carbon copy of other MMO’s out there. Generalizations like that are poor arguments at best.

And as far as the casual player out there that doesn’t get in the forumsm, my guild is full of casual players and most of them don’t want mounts, are very intelligent professional adults that would argue just as I do. And maybe in turn, you just are not listening the the arguments of the people who don’t want mounts. They aren’t all haters. They have strong, compelling arguments that I happen to agree with.

Why would you want mounts only visible to you?

If noone can see ’m what would be the point of having them in the first place?

Still against… just needed to post something again in this thread I guess…

No pay to win swiftness boosting and or combat able mounts unless it’s a ingame mechanic. (like the scorps in EOTM or siege devourers or junundu in gw1)

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

This game should really benefit from having some sort of vehicle transportation (mounts).
My suggestion u can make it gem store item with limited time use or permanent use. 30% to 50% speed bonus. No combat when on vehicle. When hit player dismounts and vehicle is stored in the bag slot or can be assighned to one of F1-F12 buttons with cooldown. Charr styled machine would really fit into the lore, a buggy or a motorcycle.

people have asked the dev’s constantly for mounts and they told us it will never happen.
Before some one asks for proof i’m not about to go hunting the interwebs for that information.

“My suggestion u can make it gem store item with limited time use or permanent use. " Yeah, let’s completely destroy 90% of the fun of these items.. collecting htem, getting them as reward, finding rare ones and so on.

No.. When they would be implemented they should be put in the game word.. Thing you create with crafts, rewards for dungeons, quest / events, raids, guild-related activities (like the char cars that wil become availible) and so on.

Like Mike O’Brien / The president said.. Anet monitizes the game by selling it.. So no need to sell these items seperately.

And yes, what you ask for here (luckily not the gem-store part) is confirmed for HoT already. https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/10918Charr-Car-1.jpg But so far only available in WvW.

@briggah.7910 Well then you are in luck. Those mounts perfectly fit your description.

Nobody will ask you for proof, we all know it’s false what you are saying. Colin himself said mounts are an option but it should be in a GW2-way. When the interviewer asked if that could mean combat mounts he said that would be possible (or somethign along those lines).

Also we have already cosmetic only mounts in PvE, and with HoT mounts with speed-buff in WvW.
