You’ll get the same story again…

we do not need mounts, we have waypoints
creatures ingame do use beasts for cargo transport but riding them seems not ok.

2 months later we see mordrem guards on mounts. Can we have mounts now?

They don’t need speed buff, let them move like normal character movement (like magic carpet and broom) but we need mount$$$$$$$$$$$$ (let it be cosmetic only)

Mordrem are hardly civilised… IMHO. If you could see any of the Divinity’s reach (1.0 or 2.0) riding animals…

Well that wold be different.

I absolutely do not want to see mounts in game.
AND BY GOD PLEASE NO FLYING MOUNTS (Gliders are fine)

When we get mounts, the world starts to look much smaller and theirs less insensitive to take your time and look around the beautiful world.

I wouldn’t mind if the mounts were well limited such as horse stables lending horses for specific areas of a select few maps.

Anyhow… I’d rather see more creative ways of travel, but I’l try to be happy with what I get.

It was a remark about technology, as the word civilized does originally refer to people who lived in cities and were more technologically advanced than the people who lived in small villages. In this case, the Amish live in a deliberately more primitive manner, as they refuse the trappings of modern civilization.

But since it was misunderstood, I’ll delete it.

Just not for WvWvW, and in Pve should give no extra speed or any other additional benefit. But people should be able to have them.

Game doesn’t need Mounts

I mean it’s not like there is any difference between Swiftness and a reskin of your character riding one of the new enslaved former playable races we Sylvari will capture in HoT, is there!?

Or a glider skin that shows the mighty Sylvari commander riding on the back of a giant moth while singing Mothra’s theme song.

Now way a magic Broom/Carpet can be the same as a Bicycle skin!?

(If the game wasn’t designed for the usage of mounts then we wouldn’t have Swiftness of movement buff nor would we be getting gliders. The sure existence of both of these nulls the popular response and is the reason why the pro-mount movement can’t be culled. Enemies on mounts also means that the model exist and the only thing a mount model is run so placing another character frame on that mount and selling the thing for $20 on the TP is something that will probably happen in the future.)

I think mounts should be implemented and have horrible, terrible grindy tamagotchi style mechanics. And no summoning. You actually have to mount and dismount off them, and they’ll wonder off if you don’t tie them up or hobble them. If they’re killed they’ll stay there on that PvE map forever until you get back there and revive them. You’d have to grind out special food for them every day too, or they’d lose health and speed, etc. And play with and praise them just to keep them friendly towards you. Also, they won’t quick travel. Period. You quick travel and your mount stays behind. Hope you remembered to tie it up first, or have fun searching all of whatever region map you left it in. How difficult they are to keep fed and friendly would also be tied directly to how huge and magnificent they are. A horse would be just barely, a tiny bit of a terrible experience, but any of the really enormous or ludicrous ones would be absolute nightmares. “Goodnight guys, I’d go to bed too but I need like five more of these rare crystalline tears from a level 75 fractal to make sure my Pegasus doesn’t run away or attack me on sight tomorrow. Ya it’s about three hours of grinding per day, but look how special I am! Well, no you can’t actually look, I fast traveled here and he’s over in Brisbane Wildlands right now, but trust me, I’m incredibly impressive riding him”.

If I was Anet, I’d make mounts just like this, and then fall asleep every night giggling with glee.

What will happen when ANet implements the modrem T-rex mount that the Modrem Cavalier rode on.

  • People will buy it.
  • No threads that hates the Modrem T-rex will appear.

I haven’t seen any magic-carpet hate at all.

I haven’t seen any Magic Carpets outside of instanced towns. If you just want more of Magic Carpet/Broom type items for in Town travel, then I’m all for it. Out in the field, they will just add to the lag.

I’d have no issue with a “horse stable” service or some such where you could rent a generic looking horse to get around on that ended once in combat but purchasable mounts would make the game even more of a cluster-kitten on the eyes than it already is and I don’t trust Anet in either showing restraint in art design or being able to implement the mechanics without serious graphical anomalies and annoyances to other players.

If they added an option where I could ignore them entirely and switch them off to just see other characters as per normal I’d be all for it but what’s a vanity item without the opportunity to be vain?

If a Mount is breaking your immersion more so then way point travel that you don’t need to be around you just open up your map and touch the spot and your there, but your class has NO magical aptitude what so ever. Then you Sir need to NOT play MMO’s or any other game for that matter. Honestly a mount over fast travel should make you feel more immersed and we aren’t talking about anything crazy just monsters that already exist in game being obtained/tamed that give a perma Swiftness buff while mounted. The feeling of having to obtain/tame your own mount and using it to explore the amazing world they made should be a no brainier. Not having a mount and leaving us to “fast travel” (that you have to have been to the location first) doesn’t make sense. Fast travel is immersion breaking beyond belief but its OK.(Its a multiplayer game)

Give us mounts, keep the fast travel to move to areas quickly simple as that. Hell were getting flying already.. why not ground travel.

Ok Amish are part now of guild wars lore? Okay…

Please keep your out-of-context remarks to yourself.

The last ever to ride horses in this game’s lore were necrid horsemen…..And they were part of the undead in Gw1… Maybe Zhaithan had a small army of horses available… But I doubt so… I’ve travelled all known lands and saw no traces except on some ancient weapons and logo’s

I’m against mounts but a few basic guidelines

So remember Mounts cannot provide things other then aesthetics:
- no ingame buffs (balance)
- no combat possibilities (balance)
- no movement other then normal character movement (no flying, teleporting)
- no animals (lore. the end)
If any item containing any of the formentioned possibilities were to be put in the gems shop it would cause riots….
But I’ll be lenient : you could get a pogo stick (as long as the hops do not allow for extraordinairy movement)…

Enjoy.

And your point is what exactly?

I case you forgot (accidentally or deliberately) we already have placeholder characters popping up when game is loading. In a same fashion you can have generic placeholder character on a mount. Also engine limitation to me are a call for improvements, not stagnation!

Throwing your attributes back at me without substantiation is pointless and frankly irrational as your hate toward mounts. So lets stop pretending that you have a point and… have a nice day instead.

Map travel was instigated in GW1 and as I have played the game since Prophecies release this has zero effect on my immersion. It was introduced 10 years ago at release and is an ingrained and welcomed core mechanic and as such has little influence.

To be honest, the fact that theres no mounts mean that they dont want money, they are used for costume porposes, they look very good and make you feel confortable with out being pay2win at all, as one easy example, Trove, the mmorpg with low graphics litteraly gift you a horse at the start that run as the same speed as ALL the mounts in the game, and even tho, everyone spend a lot of real money only for good looking mounts and also they farm the hard instances in order to get the rare mounts.

Mounts in MMORPG are never utility items, they are so useful as the costume weapons, finishers and armors.

No, enormous glittery war hippos etc. are just tacky and in poor taste. I love the fact that this game doesn’t have them. I don’t want them in my game, and that means not only do I not want to use them, but I don’t want to be forced to see them everywhere either.

If they wanted to add some more small, discrete mounts, like the three already in game, then I say go for it. Just keep them reasonably sized(not by your weapon sized idea of reasonable either Anet, actually reasonable) and not as tacky and cheap as those awful white and black wings, and make sure they’re just cosmetic, absolutely no speed boosts. A regular, plain old horse would be fine, maybe a Charr war bike, etc. So long as they fit lore, fit aesthetically, and give no measurable in game advantage I say do it.

The problem is, that’s not what you people want. You want glittery twelve feet tall pegasi with unicorn horns and sparkle auras that you magically pull out of your pocket for a free 100% speed boost whenever you feel like it. shudder No, just no, no forever, no for eternity, no times infinity plus one.

I am assuming that the majority of people in this thread asking for mounts to be placed are completely oblivious/ intentionally ignorant to the fact that you already have mounts in the game as cosmetic items such as Magic carpet, Witch’s Broom and Drill.

These mounts are purely cosmetic as to not break the Waypoint system.

With further simple logical reasoning you can safely assume that Anet is a company like any other to make a profit. What this tells us is the fact that when they introduce more cosmetic items (weapon skins, armour, mini pets, different resource gathering items), it demonstrates to us as the consumer that those items are profitable to them.

If the current mount skins that are placed in the game are not showing the same growth as the other cosmetic items, it provide us evidence that there is less demand for these items.

Simple observation shows that in the 3 year 2 month lifespan in guild wars 2, they have added 4 mounts (including gliders). If demand were to stay at the same pace you shall get a new mount skin in another year. Congrats.

So in conclusion if majority of people here asking for mounts were to say, stop posting on the a thread that started 2 years ago and use your wallet to purchase those mounts that are in-game already. You would create a demand, along with a need that Anet would have to supply.

My Necromancer uses the black wings and is dressed in a combination of lich and dry bones robes. He looks pretty darn cool.

My Guardian uses white wings and looks like a guardian angel of sorts. It’ll be better when I can give him a longbow come time for HoT.

I built my outfits around the wings, so they look good. Though, I do concede that most people just equip them just because they are wings.

Did you buy riding broom and carpet then? Those cosmetic mount. If arena net will sell more cosmetic mount people need to buy one already there to show they want. I almost do not see ever people use the cosmetic mount arena net already sell. Maybe demand is not as much as people think.

Smart guy, have a cookie

I expect to see mounts only when Anet needs a boost in Gem Store sales. When mounts do arrive they will all be so cute and will automatically adorn the rider in a long coat to standardize the riding animation. Plus the mounts will be really really cute.

Although I’d favor enormous glittery war hippos.

I find it extremely funny when people come up with this argument as they will only introduce mounts when they need a boost in sales.

Shareholder: hmmm. There is a bump up in profit gain in Q4 (The fourth quarter of a financial calendar year)

NCsoft Rep: Well, we introduced a cosmetic item the enchanted broomstick mount and the profit margin was good considering the development costs.

Shareholder: Good, so when are you going to introduce the next mount?

NCsoft Rep: Not yet, we should only make a new mount when we really need the money

Shareholder: Great plan!!!! (said no investor ever )

Almost all MMO nowadays have mounts, i wish guild wars 2 will let us have playable mount, but I want it to be hard to get, for example, it should require at lesast twice amount of resource to craft than a legendary weapon, and you have to have achievement above 10K! Cant wait for mount and make it hard to get!

We already have some mounts….

Magic Carpet, Riding Broom, Sonic Tunneling and what ever else, unless you want something to ride that boosts movement speed and other stats?

I’m all for what we already have, anything that gives extra stats though I’m against it personally.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.
….. And Elementalist.

What would mounts even do? As above, we already have waypoints so we don’t need faster travel. Mounted combat would be a massive overhaul, and either has to completely change how we play or isn’t any different at all.

Have faith, OP, Anet’s hellbent on turning this game into a WoW clone so I’m sure you’ll get your mount soon enough!

LOL why because they made a healing class and added raids ?

News flash, both of these things existed before WoW was even a twinkle in the MMO markets eye.

You would ride the mount about the map, it would be a huge boost to immersion and would be fun to collect them.

Would be fun just to ride your Mount around for role play reasons. I dont even care if they give much of a boost, maybe 10% only in PVE.

+1 for mounts!
