I was initially against mounts in Guild Wars 2 because there are ways to get around quickly and most of the maps are fairly small. In my mind I thought they’d end up being existing creatures, they would add horses or such but I love how they added the GW2 twist on mount design.

I think the one I’m looking forward to the most is the skimmer because I’ve wished for awhile that the travel toys would skim across water. I wonder if they are triggerable under water. I doubt it we’ll be able to but I really wish the skimmer would and it would rocket you to the surface.

Mounts will make most existing maps feel small. I wish at some point they would think about combining some maps together to create bigger map and improve the boundary zones to feel less like your in kitten. I suggested awhile back that I’d like to either see Claw Island added to Bloodtide Coast or for Claw Island to become an explorable map that includes all the various islands south west of it.

I’m not sure about that, because GW2-Mounts won’t run that fast (although this is what we commonly expect from mounts). Movement speed will be increased by about 30% only (similar to Swiftness boon), if the information given in this thread was right: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/All-POF-mount-info

Speed in Centraltyria and HoT also could be limited to 25% which equals most perma-speed possibilities the various professions have.

Yeah…. it won’t exceed 400 units, as thats a universal limit on controlled movement. I’m expecting perma-swiftness, but not super speed, since that would break the function of gauntlet scenarios. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the mounts got a skill that grants short bursts of super speed. The potential for gatekeeping advanced puzzles would be good to pass up.

Worth a read up.

Combing maps… Let’s take that a step furthee and have no “maps” at all, just a continious load as you journey forth. It’s not beyond possibility as I’ve seen it done before.

I still don’t care for them..

Imo Gw2 doesn’t and never has needed mounts so I personally only plan on using them when I need their abilities.. most of the time I’ll be running around on foot like normal because I just don’t care about mounts.

I do like that Anet is incorporating them as individual masteries with unique abilities etc.. this was a good move and it means that mounts in GW2 will have a purpose and not just a generic movement buff with a cosmetic effect like they are in most other games.

But I am concerned about skins.. it’s obvious Anet will capitalize on the popularity of mounts by adding gemstore skins.. and considering each mount will have it’s own mastery line this is going to limit the overall number of mounts in the game..
I have no issue with skins altering the mounts appearance like adding more spikes or feathers to the Raptor.. but I do have a problem with them completely replacing said Raptor with a different creature entirely.. even if it uses the same model..
This will annoy me a lot tbh.

I’ve thought of that before. I’d like to see them do that. They could redo the maps to eliminate that stuck in a bowl feeling that many of them have.

That would likely require a complete, ground-up, redesign of the engine…

Don’t worry about mount speed, they won’t be too fast. The game has a hard cap on 133% movement speed when out of combat, no matter what buffs you have-that’s even including the mushrooms in HoM.

Anything past a 33% buff only affects you when you’re in combat (such as Superspeed) because being in combat slows you down significantly below the cap.

This means that Swiftness=mushrooms=mounts for travel, always.

That said, I still feel like even perma swift makes the old maps feel too small. I can run across an entire map in just a few minutes with a basic swift build, if anything i would like to see movement speed reduced in the entire game.

Its unneccessary for people to blaze everywhere with waypoints…

Sounds like they’re creating the need for mounts by adding few ports. The only way to get around may be to ride a mount or run in the new content, in the old nothing not much will change, thankfully. Mounts will just be a new addition to the fashion show in the old maps.

I noticed HoT doesn’t have many ports and was thinking how handy a mount might come in, but adding all the mobs they have to HoT you wouldn’t really be able to get to far before having to fight, which makes it easier to just run and fight through content.

SoE did it and I don’t think they had to rewrite the engine
