Q:
Multiple Account Creation
A:
Most people have multiple accounts for the easy money you can get from it.
Anything that has a time-gate/limit on it per account can be circumvented with multiple accounts. Log-in rewards (and thus laurels), fall under this category. I used my 2nd account during Dragon Festival to gain bonus laurels every day by completing the festival dailies.
Other things that can be somewhat circumvented this way are things like world boss daily bonus chests (especially ones that drop expensive exotics for treasure hunter), dungeon daily rewards and time-gated materials.
Other reasons why second accounts may be useful:
-If you have a reputation/are a “famous” GW2 player, you may have alt accounts to allow you to play in a way that is against what your reputation dictates. (E.g. a min/maxer playing casual dungeon runs). Also it means that leaders/officers in a guild could have some proper time to themselves in-game without being pulled away for responsibilities/obligations.
-Having accounts in different worlds or even servers, so you have more selection in WvW. This would mean you might be able to find active zergs in WvW even at “off-peak” hours where you live. I’m sure people spy on enemy zergs this way too.
-Farming a lot on your main account and hit diminishing returns? No worries- continue farming on an alt account until the DR wears off and transfer your earnings.
And of course, the reasons given by other posters already are wonderful too.
I have a few alt accounts, there’s no need to upgrade them to HoT as that would probably be unnecessary and too expensive for the things I use them for. I bought my accounts for cheap, and they are really only worth it at such a low cost.
Some people like the idea of starting over, and with achievements/items/etc being account bound that makes it difficult.
Daily rewards and laurels.
Being in multiple 100% rep guilds.
If you can get past the account sharing aspect the cost of 5 character slots is the same as rebuying the game.
E: Also you can share some stuff quite easily, just create a guild and share stuff between the 2. Granted you are limited to non-player/account items, but still isn’t hard.

Twice the rewards, twice the fun! =)
No need to upgrade multiple accounts. At least, not at launch.
Full accounts? “Cheap” storage and character slots, especially during the $10 sale. Daily login rewards converted to coin. Having a backup member in your personal guild to offset the terrible placement of the quit guild button.
RIP City of Heroes
1) Back up co leaders for your personal guild. (There was one thread where a guy accidently left his personal guild, which was full of expensive mats he was storing in there, including the mats for his precursor).
2) Daily log in rewards
3) the ability to play with true privacy
4) additional storage, including a complete materials storage panel. Not an unimportant consideration since guild storage is unsafe. If you’re hacked, the guilds do not get reset while your account will be (once).
5) the ability to play on EU or NA without transferring.
6) the ability to play in another WvW, without transferring.
ANet may give it to you.
