The only disadvantage I can think of is that there is so little time to play them all!

WvW ranks are currently character based, but that’s supposed to change some time soon (ish). Other than that, everything else is a plus. More achievement points, more knowledge of other classes (good for counterplay in PvP/WvW), more options for group play.

sounds good then, i am pretty attached to my guardian though, but i kind of took a liking to asuras recently.

especially that tier 3 heavy asura armor looks fantastic.

if only they implement a race change so that i can get an asura guard.

I have 8 alts. The biggest problem for gearing them all is:
- Laurels
- Guild Commendations
- Ascended rings (however you get them is up to you, I chose 10x pristine fractal relics per ring)
- Ascended backpieces (1850 frac tokens per char)
- Fractal tokens for agony infusions
- Gold. Lots and lots of gold. You don’t want to walk around in starter armor. You want to get nice skins. Expensive skins. They cost gold, transmutation stones. Then you want to get runes + sigils, etc.

Alts cost a lot of gold, resources and time. But in the end, they’re so worth it. Being able to swap to whatever you feel like playing or whatever is needed. Thief for Dredge, Mesmer for CoF/Harpy/Swamp, Guardian when your party lacks one, Ele for AC/CoE, etc.

It’s totally worth it.

You call those ,“drawbacks”?
Have you played other mmo’s ?
Should we better have inventory account wide…maybe when we create another character should be lvl 80.
GuildWars2 gives so many advantages for alts. The wallet is maybe the best advantage.
Laurels are supposed to be some rare currency.
Soulbound items.Create an armor set and move it on the alts and back whenever you want…that sounds fun…
Map explore.Does your new char walked on the map where your other char walked? Is a new char never been where your other chars have been,so it should descover all that. And if we had the map shared i suppose you wouldn’t like to have the skill points/vistas/points of interest shared.Having to descover is great part of leveling.
Skillpoints account wide..Told you again, why not make everything account wide, the name, map, inventory, why not starting with lvl 80?!

As someone who made a character of each profession at launch, my biggest complaint about playing multiple characters is still the soul bound thing. I really don’t understand why they don’t replace it all with account binding, or at the very least, soul binding only for level 80 items. It would sure be nice to be able to pass items down to lower level characters. I might actually use items of higher quality than fine instead of selling them all on the tp while leveling if it didn’t turn them immediately in to future salvage trash.

I keep all 9 of my characters in Queensdale and swap them when i feel like a change.
It never gets boring that way and it lets you level without thinking about it.
Before i found the Train (2 months ago) i had one level 80 and eight below 30, now i have one level 80 and eight level 50-65s.

I love having many characters- I have 5 level 80’s now and 2 more between lvl 30 and 45.
unless you are into Ascended gear I can’t see any drawbacks tbh.
I play all my characters and I love the freedom it gives me.

There is no disadvantage in having multiple characters because things are like map completion and ascended items are not really required. Exotic armor and weapons can be obtained with dungeon tokens, accessories can be purchased from the Trading Post and backpacks can be purchased from Guild Armorers.

One advantage in having multiple characters is that each character gets their own birthday presents every year so the more characters you have the more goodies you can get even if you don’t play them. Sometimes there are special event achievements which are easier if you use multiple characters because there is a limit to the number of times you can activate something on 1 character so after activating it onec you can log on another character and activate it again which would let you finish the achievement faster.

I also love playing all my alts, I have a total of 11 characters (5 80s) and love all of them.
I just want to note that, in a way, having loads of alts helps with Ascended gear, unless you also want them all geared in Ascended of course.
Map exploring, doing events, killing mobs as a lower level char has higher chances of getting those hard to get mid-range materials (like cotton/linen) and also the lower level chars can mine ore nodes/chop wood at lower level zones while actually playing/enjoying the game instead of just grinding for them.
I could care less about Ascended armors/weapons but my alts sure make the job of outfitting my mains easier.

I am almost done leveling my 10th level 80 toon. Map completion on that many characters is a complete joke. There is no way I’m spending my time teaching skills to cows on some random ranch just to ‘get a heart’ 10 times over. This is a combat MMO, not a little kid’s iPad app.

PLEASE make map completion 1-and-done!!!

Everything.

Buying gear multiple times. Getting all equipped with Ascended is near impossible. If you want multiple builds for each one, it means LOTS more money.

Having said that I have 10 80s and dont regret any of them. Just dont expect ever being able to have all ascended builds.

how many do you have already?

by my calculations, you only need 40 to have all the races with all professions, so i wonder what you would do with the other 24.

so far the only professions that have tempted me twice are ranger and engineer (and i dont have a mes).

Is it possible to gear all 64 in different exotic armors?

are there even that many? i think you might have to mix and match by that point.
