I had been thinking, and outfits are generally a way for the player/character to BE whatever their outfit is. Int his case, the Mursaat outfit with back is supposed to reflect the character being a Mursaat.

With that in mind, I’d like to remark on this from the GW2 wiki: ‘The mursaat were a race of floating humanoids…’

That said, ANet could easily achieve this effect and not create any gameplay issues by putting an invisible riser under the feet, much like they do with things like the magic carpet and the Witches Outfit broom. Characters with the outfit would have the floating look (mostly) without actually levitating.

I think any outfits I missed that would be expected to have some sort of special effect could be adjusted as well. It could even be a way for ANet to increase purchases next time the outfit goes up for sale, provided they adjust the existing ones (because if they don’t a lot of purchasers will be miffed). Just a thought.

In this game, things that levitate you also inactivate your skills. This means that an outfit with self levitation would no longer be useable in combat. People buy outfits expecting to use them in combat so this would create gameplay issues. At best they’d have to sell it separately and people could combine it with the outfit with the understanding that it would disable combat skills.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Making skills inactive is not a forced side effect of the ‘levitation’, it’s added by ANet. A large issue with toy items that cause this effect is it screws with animations so either said animations would be completely unrealistic or they would have to make new ones for every body type.

Again, adding a small invisible riser under the shoes would get the effect and have NO bearing on combat. It also would require no additional modeling of any kind.

If the player is standing on an invisible riser, won’t that effect skills? It makes the players hit box or interaction area longer if it now extends below the feet. It seems to me that extending the hit box/interaction area to under the feet is bound to effect animations and whether or not the player will hit things during animations with the length extended like that. Right now all chars have the same hit box/interaction area. Won’t this mean that the outfit will change this?

I was thinking exactly the same thing.
That’s why I use the electromagnetic ascender, that’s better than nothing because to me, a mursaat has to float.

But I’d like a toy without all the electromagnetic effects, and if possible a character who stands straight instead of leaning with the ascender.

In fact, the best would be a new cosmetic category of ways of moving, with your character automatically switching to the selected one when out of combat.
Having to look for it in your inventory is really tedious, plus the fact that it disappears when you move in another zone.

I’m sure more persons would buy these items.

It’s really too late for A-net to add anything after the fact that it’s available for sale on the gem-store. You end up creating a divide in people, so they’d have to make sure that the change is demanded/wanted by the vast majority before committing to it.

Adding a floating animation would mean that all other animations would either have to be removed or reworked. For example, having a floating animation would remove regular movement animation, dodge animations etc etc. It would make your character look pretty static. I think that would make my character look pretty boring.

I don’t see a change to the outfit as possible, but perhaps adding a toy item would be possible, much like how the pirate outfit comes with one. Using the item would make you float ad offer costume brawl skills. This is a best of both worlds- you can choose when you want to be floating and players who want to run around normally can too.

Be happy with what you have friend because that would be a ton of coding sure to have your bug hunters ripping their hair out with all the different classes and zones.

Who cares about floating when the female version of this outfit doesn’t even look anything like a mursaat, yea I think they reinvented the mursaat for gw2 it’s not supposed to be anything like the original mursaat that we had in gw1, so in this version of mursaat they aren’t supposed to float, they probably ride around in Ferrari’s and Mercedes-Benz.

Um, I always thought it was so you could look like whatever the outfit is, not be something different. Even tonics just make you look like something else; you hardly ever have the skills or other abilities.

I can’t think of any other outfit which makes you behave like something other than your current profession and even race.

Some “toys” that come with some outfits do that, but not the outfits themselves. And, some tonics do as well. The costume brawl ones, at least.
