Perhaps, having successfully developed and operated multi-player games for over 10 years, ArenaNet has some idea of what is, and is not, in the best interest of the company.

I’m sure most would appreciate more in-game items to earn, but I’m not sure that would guarantee more income.

Regardless, good luck with your suggestion.

Their most recent quarterly financial report, the poorly received expansion, and the recent termination of their lead developer suggests that contrary to popular belief, ArenaNet is not infallible. It’s fair for you to point to 10 years of success as evidence that they’re doing a good job. It’s just as fair for me to point to the three aforementioned blackeyes as evidence that they’re doing a bad job.

I was unaware that voluntarily leaving a post was considered termination.

Regardless, I’m not sure, nor have any evidence, that merely removing items from the Gem Store would change much. Especially, as there have been no Armor ‘suits’ in the Gem Store in ages, much less 35. If the OP is referring to Outfits, I don’t really consider those as an equivalent to Armor sets. Nor do I really understand what Legendaries have to do with Gem sales, other than, perhaps, boosting said Gem sales.

Remember, the playerbase asked that Armor sets be removed from the Gem Store long ago, and ArenaNet complied. Not only that, but the playerbase begged for another way to acquire Precursors; again (though with mis-steps at first) ArenaNet complied.

Even with ‘more money’, I don’t think we would see ‘in-game skin update’ faster for a long time, if ever. Stated repeatedly, full armor sets take an inordinate amount of time to develop.

If the Devs feel the OPs suggestions are sound, I’m sure we will see changes tout de suite. =)

What makes a you an expert ?
With the part that you agreed with Devata , that selling more x-packs will be liked by the community more , rather than the gemstore (Ferbuary -March (3x Devata megathreads) in 2015)?

Who told you that the lead developer was terminated ? And not willingly left of his own to find something new ?

3 ppl from Blizzard (the one with the manly voice) , have left too after the release of the newest x-pack …
what does this mean ? they didnt do a good job in carbon/pasting GW2 features ?

I can point and create ‘’aforementioned blackeyes’’ too ….

Create armours for each of the races, not for the professions. Problem solved. They touched on the solution with cultural armours, and identified the problem when they copy/paste cultural armour overlays and tired to make them gem store items that clipped on different forms. We all remember the flame kissed debacle.

If creating profession armours that fit all 5 races is the issue and a resource drain, then move resources towards solutions rather than keeping to the dogma of, “..But this is how we’ve always done it…”

Im a bit confused. How is creating 5 sets of labor-intensive armor, instead of 3 sets of labor-intensive armor solving the problem?

Remember, Cultural Armor needed 5 sets x 3 weights, thus 15 sets. Or were you thinking the playerbase would prefer these sets to be one style fits all? I don’t know, maybe they would. The Devs would still need to create more 5 race-specific armor sets, rather than 3 weight-specific sets.

I’ve given this concept some thought a while ago, and here’s what I came up with.

On one hand a set of armor could be made for each gender, race, and type making 30 armor sets total that (should) fit perfectly on each character.

Or, on the other hand 30 armor sets could be made (10 for each type), and then tweaked to fit the gender and race wearing it.

Both options make 30 armor sets available…. the first option means that you don’t get any choice what that is, because it’s already tied to your character’s gender/race/type… but it’ll fit perfectly. The second option means that extra development time is needed so that the armors are stretched somewhat appropriately no matter who’s wearing it…. but you have 10 armors to choose from instead of 1.

Even if they don’t all fit well, I think I’d rather have more choices than less.

Cool. Not sure exactly what any of this has to do with the thread topic, though.

Are these 30 armors Gem Store armor sets, which generate sales? Or in-game armor sets that please the playerbase, perhaps, and may, or may not, generate Gem sales?

I’m sure everyone would appreciate more armor and weapon skins, as long as it does not delay other content by an inordinate amount of time. =)

In what universe do you think they wouldn’t have the decency to allow him to walk on his own? Do you honestly think they wouldn’t let it appear as voluntary?

The player base asked for Armor Suits to be removed from the Gem Store – but they asked that they be added as in-game obtainable rewards.
Anet removed them from the gem store and then proceeded TO NOT add in-game armor as rewards but keep making “outfits” and selling them on the gem store instead.

It’s not that the community didn’t want Armor Skins sold on the gem store but DO want outfits to be sold there.
It’s that the community wanted In-game cosmetic rewards and Anet decided to not do it.

I would in fact want MORE armor – even if it is on the gem store – since they seem to be doing such a poor job creating it.

I’m sure they’ve said armor takes a long time to develop – but they should hurry up and make some more.

In what universe do you think they wouldn’t have the decency to allow him to walk on his own? Do you honestly think they wouldn’t let it appear as voluntary?

Same sort of reasoning that I used to see applied to defendants taking the stand by less than stellar judges. “I think he’s guilty, so when he testifies under oath that he’s innocent, clearly he just lied to me and his sentence is going to be enhanced for lying to me.”

There is no evidence at all that his departure was for anything but the stated reasons.

Now as to the armor, it does baffle me that a game that has shipped the quantities of skins it has suddenly finds it to be the hardest part of new content. But I’m not a graphics artist or game modeler, so I will accept the experts at face value, because I know better than to assume dishonesty without evidence. This does not mean I cling to a belief in honesty given evidence to the contrary; understandings can change as new information arrives, after all. At this point the information is that making armor is prohibitively difficult.

Should it be so hard? That’s a whole different question that takes looking back to original design decisions and possible bad coding choices, again, only if there is evidence that mistakes were made that could have been avoided by reasonable means. Hindsight can condemn what was perfectly okay in context at the time.

SO, back on topic. Gem store items=skins only. In game items=actual items with stats.

There is nothing to balance, since no advantage is offered to gem store skins. You still have to play the game to get items to give you an advantage.

With regards to the “spend money to get gems to get gold”, there is no way around that. Yes, people with large disposable time or income will have an advantage on the things they can get. Sadly it’s life and I’m one of the poor ones.

This. At no point did people ask for the armour to be removed from the gem store. They asked for the same number and quality of armours to be available in-game.

Their response was of the sulky kid who takes his ball and bat home so nobody gets to play.

I don’t think there are 35+ armor suits in the gem store to buy (Even counting outfits). Are there really 30+gliders?! Black lion weapon skins… 36 is super low.

Honestly the less options players have without gem store pieces, the more attractive the gem store pieces become to those that want variety.

People bring up this topic a lot. The problem is that no matter how many skins ANet releases, they’ll never (realistically) be able to produce enough to satisfy our demand for new shinies. Armor takes ages for them to produce and they have been adding in-game full sets as well as gem shop individual pieces and outfits.

To create outfits requires far less work while they still sell at a good price. They are the types of items people by on a whim usually. I feel like most of us buy them just to hardly ever use them afterwards. Also, there are always new players picking them up because the low level gear doesn’t look too fancy.
Once again, are they like the high quality armor sets which allow you customize your character’s appearance with thousands of different combinations as well hundreds of dyes and goodies like the scarfs or special helmets? No, not even close.
I do not give a kitten if they shall add armor sets to the gem store only without any way to acquire them in-game as long as they are something high in detail, with lots of customization options and customized to fit all of the races. I’d pay 2000 gems if I feel like they are worth that price. Most outfits aren’t even worth 500 gems to me.

We seem to forget about the option to trade gold for gems, also. Armor sets would still only (considering how easy it is to farm gold now) cost you something like 300-350g even at a high price of 1000 gems.
I for one like the option to pick my way of playing and farming gold to earn an armor set I love much more than having to do collections or challenges I do not enjoy to acquire a set I really want. Might be just me, though.

Exactly this^

I have been working hard on ember bay achievement for the dragon shoulder skin for days, this reminds me how i prefer the gem store armor set at launch. Whenever we have gem store update, the first thing i do is to browse black lion to check whether there are new armor set available….

This excitement has far gone along with the announcement where only outfit will be on gem store. I have purchase far less of gem with cash since then.

I don’t see any problem with gem store armor skin seriously. I enjoy both in game armor skin reward tied with achievement like the dragon shoulder / helmet, along with gem store armor at the same time.

Sadly it it is not enough.
And not all the armor you mention there falls under the category I mentioned.

HoT Armor is not armor they gave us because of the community asking for it as in-game rewards – it is armor they HAD to deliver with the expansion.

Also carapace and luminescent are the same skin.
And what about Tribal/Stalwart/Apostle – these were IN the game before they took them out. That doesn’t count.

the outfit to armour ratio is getting massively out of hand.

i’ve said it repeatedly, but if they made outfits into armour skins i would likely buy every single one.

this game is in major need of more customisation we’ve barely had anything since release, i thought the expansion would give us another big bulk of armour skins, but alas, we got what, 3 sets per weight class? :S

100% on the outfit vs armor thing. Obviously it is more cost effective to make outfits, it just gets boring seeing the same outfits over and over and over and over and over.

On the other hand, there are many armor skin choices available in all three tiers but you mainly see a handful of pieces used. Or if you happen to be a medium armor character, you have a choice of 30+ trench coats and extremely similar pants.
