Hey guys, I have played GW2 since some of there first betas and I love the game, and do realize that it is a new game (and still adding), but I just have some ideas that I think would be awesome to the game, and I would also love to here some of your guys opinions/ideas.

>My Idea:
The developers of the game say that they don’t want to have you sitting around waiting for a tank/healer/DPS so they made everyone have the ability to do everything, I just have one problem with it; it seems to me that everyone is then the same and nothing really distinguishes you. Sure you can spec to tank, or heal, or DPS, but it just seems to me that everyone is kinda the same thing and no one really excels at anything. It just seems to me that you can’t really say who YOU are. I think it would be awesome if they had some sort of “specialization” system where you can choose, out of combat (free of charge) what YOU want to be (Tank/Healer/DPS), so then you don’t HAVE to wait around and you can do what YOU want. I really think that something like this would really help you become your own character. They are just my thoughts

You do, its just that the stats and traits dont make a huge enough difference. Also, not enough skills to choose from.

I think a lot of people just “don’t get” the system of this game.

It’s quite clear there are support specializations and they differ from class to class.

Anyone who examines a classe’s trait lines can see what they would excel at if they want to do group support.

Some group-wide specializations which may or may not occur in combination:
- boon stripping
- hindering (slows, chills, knockbacks)
- projectile blocks/reflects
- jamming/combo breaking
- boon production
- condition removal

for instance:
a properly specced support mesmer can do boon stripping and projectile reflection (shutting down ranged as much as 75%) while still doing decent damage.

a 0/10/0/30/30 D/D ele or bunker-specced hammer guardian would good at boon production, healing, and jamming/combo breaking but suck at personal damage.

the list goes on and on.

if you leverage what is built-in to your profession in terms of group utility you will have much smoother runs than those who simply “build for soloing”

The differences and specializations are there, they just aren’t obvious like other MMOs that rely on the trinity to define their classes.

Look deeper.

I agree with this.
OP the system in the game can be specialized, just because people don’t do it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
I think that many people are so used to the trinity that they keep trying to reproduce it instead of looking how to make their classes unique with the system that this game does have.

To OP,

As a warrior with shout heal and soldier rune, i watch over my allies’ condition healthy, burst heal critical mates and fear away hostile before revive downed friendies. This makes me a real combat medic.

As a mesmer with focus traited with reflect projectile and feedback, i am able to protect teammate from ranged attacks. Support teammate with interrupt and regen phantasm, my role is Anti-range.

Come On, this is a fantasy game, use imagination to create roles and impress your teammate by what you’ve built.
