So first of all this is not a Q_Q, Whaaa!!! Whaa!!! topic. I’m just expressing my feeling to see if fellow players and maybe even the devs feel the same way, or maybe help me find ways to renew my interest in the game. Similar to a second wing in a marathon or a pomp while lifting weights I seek to renew my interest in the game.

So I’ll start from the beginning, when GW2 started to get it’s fame as the OMFG WOW KILLER and game of the year and bla bla bla. I was completely uninterested on it. I been playing games since the Atari entertainment system, I been through Ever Quest, WoW, Rift, Aion, Ragnarok Online, Lineage 2, SWTOR, eh many games…just too many. They always seems to promise a lot, yet all of them end up being another grind, with very restricted end game that is designed to allow the devs into the deepest part of your pockets. Now my fiancee was really interested in the game, like me she plays MMOs a lot, so she kept saying “We should get GW2….bla bla bla.” Over all I was still not interested, then I saw the manifesto trailer and I was like Holy kitten this is great [EDIT], I automatically got sold and pre-reserved the game.

As more information about the game was release I got more interested in it, there were two things that really got me into wanting to play this game, the personal story and the reputation GW1 pvp had. I never played GW1 but everyone keep telling me pvp was awesome. So I said well if pvp was awesome there then it should be even more so in the sequel. For the most part after release I was very happy with the game, in fact I still am rather happy with it, I’m not in a mood to say OMFG I will quit and never buy a product from Anet. Now here comes why my experience is going down the drain.

First of is the way the personal story is designed. The story with any race besides the asura “Neither my GF or I could swallow the boredom of that story, even if she was all over the race before release.” have very interesting bases. This is leaving aside the circus part of the human story line. “If you picked that path.” My main character is a human, so I picked the whole being poor and having a lost sister story. At first I was very happy with it, incredibly so, centaurs attacking my city, humans not being the kitten like in every other game, this mixed well with the dynamic events around Divinity’s Reach. Soon after I randomly get send into an Order, I was like ok the plot is gonna intensify…? Wonder what will happen with my friend Quin and that bandit girl. To my surprise, they simply went poof. I joined an order to fight dragons I dunno why someone would do that out of the blue but whatever.

I joined the Vigil so Forgal became my inspiration, the kitten norn is an amazing character, really without him there I probably would have quit the story all together. Now the story moves around up and down some good point so bad points, Tehern < can’t spell his name, come into my story takes over and everything becomes his story coated with a massive amount of risen syrup. I felt like I was eating in a high quality restaurant and suddenly my food got replaced with a MC Donald’s burger, with way too much mayonnaise. The story made me travel the world in a rather random way, so my whole drama with centaurs was now covered with risen and sons of svarnir and other factions I knew nothing about. I finally get to the very end and go to Arah to face Zhaitan, over all i was expecting something epic, a dinner that would make me forget the Mc.D. Burger. But nop, instead I got one of the worse experiences in dungeons i ever had. Boring encounters, more risen, destiny’s edge acting like if they were important in any way….simply put, horrible story writing.

This leads to the second part of my problem. Dungeons… Not only finding a group for them is a task of it’s own. I mean no dungeon finder…something that is like essential in every game. I know some will say “It add social aspects to the game” well there is nothing social about spending hours looking for people to do a dungeon that you might not even finish. While doing this I can’t go WvW, go spvp, go do anything I like, all I can do is wait and spam while reading gold spammers selling gold and people discussing WoW outside WoW. Social aspect, that’s what guilds are for…thats what team chat in WvW is for, dungeons like it or not is to enjoy em once and farm em after. Whenever you enjoy them or not while farming them is at your own discretion.

On with dungeons, why are they so unbalance? Some trash feels like HOLY kitten!!! Then you reach the boss and you are all scared and end up beating him worse than one of those lvl 1 mobs. Most of it feels like the devs went lazy when making em in fear of not being able to balance them around the trinity-less game style. This combined with the random mechanics like escorting an npc really makes me want to bang my head against the desk, over all I avoid the dungeons like I avoid bad foods in my diet.

Next point Destiny’s edge. At first I thought I could ignore them, over all I thought I could simply say, yeah horribly design group of losers. So they went against an elder dragon, an old man died and now is a blame each other fest. Is the same as a navy seal team going against Osama Bin laden, having a casualty and acting like if the world ended, they knew they would face a thread that could kill em, yet they all blame each other and act like kinder garden kids. When I did AC story I was all omg this is some sexy lore as I learn of the fate of Ascalon, after that every dungeon felt like a bottle of no more tears shampoo for Destiny’s Edge.

Next point the Pvp. I always been a fan of competitive pvp. Yet the design around conquest and the imbalance in some classes really made this a rather uninteresting experience. Also the way ranks are earned make bad people become worse…which leads from a competitive activity to become a grind face or a humiliation thanks to those seeking to earn glory fast.

WvW is the one part of the game I really enjoy and the reason I still play, yet with free server transfers, this area of the game have become lacking, I am happy arena net is doing something about it. Thus I won’t say much on this aspect. Only thing I dislike is the whole commander title for 100 gold. People seem to make such a big deal out of it, someone spent 100 gold into it we all most worship them cause we are nothing without em. No commander in the map = people OMFG we need a commander what do we do omg, how do we band together without one!?!?! OMG!!!! Personally, if I see a commander doing something good for the server, I will follow him if he is a complete idiot, I just go look for my suicidal 7 v 1 or so fights to see how many I can kill before more come and kill me.

And my last point. The end game. Like many I am disappointed at how the end game is designed. No I don’t want raids, but I do want world bosses to be able to put a fight, not just stand there looking awesome, I want real goals, not some spend 119 gold into some cultural armor and try to feel good about it. Or grind the mother of all mats/gold/dungeon farming and make a legendary weapon….is just not there, is either grind or do a boring boss. I don’t say they need to add tons of content all the time I say they need to fix the content they already have to make it enjoyable and challenging in a certain scale, not a gear scale but more of a some fight should easier than others until you reach a level that only true elites can accomplish while feeling rewarded for it. Rewards could be anything from a different unique set of skins to unique titles or a medal next to your name like the world explorer one.

Thank you for reading and sorry for my english, I self taught myself english so I tend to make a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes.

I don’t understand people who say this game needs a dungeon finder. Since it requires no specific roles, I always form a dungeon group in at most five minutes. That’s way less time than I spend waiting in a dungeon finder queue.

What if I told you that games are not meant to be substitutes for lives? How many hours have you clocked in already?

Also, please edit out the part of your post mentioning Hitler.

Really getting tired of people thinking the way they play is the only way to play, and asking for “progress reports” before allowing someone to criticize the game

Considering the wall of text you just posted. I’d say you are still fairly interested in the game.

People play for hundreds or thousands of hours. And then decide to be hyper critical of core gameplay and content as if you hate and despise? Something compelled them/you to play.

Making a massive half-novel,sweeping non-cohesive post does not really make a clear point. I read things in the first post about Hitler, Osama bin Laden, Mcdonalds, “trinity”, im just spent trying to get to the core of what is the point of the thread.

Might want to try and get your point across easier without needing to write a novel. I wouldn’t call it a wall of text because you used paragraphs at least, but having 2 full post sections is a bit much for internet video game forums. I know I honestly stopped reading quickly.

Completely agree with the OP. However Lyonell since you have been infracted it would seem Anet cannot take criticism for the things that they have really screwed up with in this game. They have potential for a good game but if they are blind and refuse to see everyone’s views apart from the “ohh yea this game is a wow killer” fan boys view then it will quickly go to the kitten..

Stand outside the doors of any dungeon on the map and there are lots of people looking for a group. Or…maybe I should say, there are lots of people standing around twiddling their cartoon thumbs waiting for someone else to invite them to a group.

What is the problem here? Mostly that someone has to make the first move. Speak up, start a group…someone.

I can’t believe he just equated anet to the guy with the funny mustache… but I personally enjoyed the story start to finish, did whispers myself and even though Logan went on a tad much about his love, it all ended rather well imo.

I can’t stand people that resort to insulting other’s for having an opinion about a game. It’s rather pathetic.

Idk what server you’re on, but on erradon terrace their’s never anyone standing outside of the dungeons….ever and finding a group in LA is a 30 minute task.

If they actually implemented a dungeon finder, you wouldn’t even be in a queue. The second you hit join the queue would be ready. With everyone being labeled as DPS, the queues would constantly go off as long as a full party worth of people were queued.

One of the reasons it doesn’t exist.

I’m really not following your logic… waiting in the queue is horrible, why wouldn’t instant queue pops be a good thing?

If you’re referring to the “one of the reasons it doesn’t exist” it’s because in theory there should be no need for an automatic queueing system. The system itself is designed so that anyone can fill the slot, so you should be able to go to <x> and instantly find others to fill the party, hence why it doesn’t exist.

The problem is, where is <x>? <x> is the missing tool that centralizes everyone wanting to do what you’re looking for.

I think this hits the nail on the head.
I don’t even know how I would balance the combat in this game, so I’m glad I’m not tasked with it. Apparently ANet doesn’t know either. Feel they dug themselves into a corner with the combat system.

Just a thought. I read the OP full post & second. I believe a Mod. Needs to add into the “post title”. Spoilers. I have recently just beat the game, on my first toon. Their is plenty of spoilers in this topic.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That being said. I agree with some/but not all of the OP topic. But playing GW 1, since beta. I know the story is not complete, with everything they “added in to the sotry/left off at certain points”. In the first game.
To keep the masses coming back for new content. They had to leave little things left “unexplained”, or confusing. So that when the next part of the story comes out. You can extend on it. It is no different than a author who is making a story, that is for a Trilogy. You have to leave certain things out their, that makes the reader, question. Ok why is this? Ect. It’s to keep the story going. That’s all I have to say about the topic.
