I just cant get up in peoples faces, i’m no good at it. I hang back in a fight to support, snipe, whatever in other games. It just seems every class is being pushed into a face to face fight in this game, and if you play any sort of ranged class its immediately rushed down and it becomes a brawl (or if you are like me die in a matter of seconds). Reapers change the Necro into a melee fighter. Rifle warrior seems so sub-par, Mesmers get more damage if they get up close since they count as a shatter, Engie turrets are paper, there’s even a push for Rangers to drop the bow and pick up great-swords in the meta game. I guess I’m talking more exclusively about WvW and pvp, but I need help. Nothing seems to mesh with how I do things. What do I do?

In wvw you can kite endlessly, in pvp a lot of fights open ranged… eventually you’ll get in melee.

I guess adopt a class/build/playstyle where you have a ranged weapon set and a melee set on change. Like a gs-sword/x mesmer or warrior with longbow on swap or whatever.

Go ranged right up until someone is in your face, then swap to melee. You will do much more damage.

Since the other posters dont seem to see your question OP, I’ll answer it there is nothing you can do.
Melee will always out damage ranged, so if they catch up to you then your dead.

The trick as a ranged fighter is to keep the enemy at range. Use crowd-controls and movement skills to stay at a distance.

It is true that melee will always out-dps a ranged fighter, but that is only if he is able to hit his target.

Warriors have rifle access, don’t be afraid to equip one! Hammer and rifle or greatsword and rifle. I’m sure longbow has some utility to it too, but who cares about bows? Well, shortbows for ranger are good and thief okayish (decent for tagging and rushing to rez with the 5 skill though the slow upstart means even tagging can be a challenge especially after AoE or even single knockbacks are used that screws up AoE and ricochets like elementalist lightning or thief shortbow 1 ) but overall guns are superior for outright damage.
