Guild Wars 2

I’m trying to collect Tyrian mastery points (mainly wvw player here, but have to grind them out in pve land). This is proving somewhat frustrating, as many are gated (seems to be a common theme in this release).

I’m currently looking at ‘Ruler of Shinies’…minimum level 4 map in Dry Top, so that’s gated behind long multiple events and either searching for the elusive lfg that is doing Dry Top, or just getting lucky that someone is doing DT this week. Not great for my limited unscheduled play time.

Other one I was looking at is ‘going for Gold’ or something in SW, which is basically 30 or something jump puzzle type things to grab some badges. After falling off the rope 4 times, finally got to the platform (yes, it’s SM8- well it could be), then need to jump on to a log in mid air..10 tries later I’ve had enough of Jump Puzzle SM8.2 and just log off in frustration.

The Going for Gold one: That sort of thing I bring my Mesmer and try to round up a friend with a Mesmer. That way we can port each other up when one falls.

Currently doing Going for Gold, and I feel you. I’m as bad as they come with JP and this makes me wanna tear my hair out. You really wanna grab a mesmer friend to do this with you. Also helpful is this thingie called Experimental Rifle, I got me a full stack before going in and it helped me in quite a few cases with managing to actually hit places to land on.

My pet hate is having an excess of those points and not earning any experience at all anymore in Central Tyria. I want another mastery track.

WTB spare points. Although really you shouldn’t have rushed all that exp….

I haven’t rushed it. I just did what I was going to do anyway, world completion on a new character.

In general it seems to me that the Tyria mastery points are harder than the HoT ones. I don’t think that makes sense because this is supposed to be the lower level part of the game.

Queen Skrit isn’t too bad because there is a big demand for her shiny loot for upgrading Guild Halls. Most Dry Top sandstorms are getting pushed to T4 these days. I’m even farming that event cycle. The cycle is on a clock so just set an alarm and pop in when it’s time for her to open the door 10 minutes after the sandstorm starts.

The Golden Badges though are one of the most PITA accomplishments in the game. HATE YOU ARENANET for this one.

I’ve been able to collect enough points to finish the Pact Commander for autoloot and get the other two lines to the last mastery so at least I can fill all the experience bars. When I’ll have the points to activate them I have no idea as I’m mostly focusing on HoT content now.

Good job. That takes quite a while (done it 4 or so times, it’s actually not bad for mats etc), not sure I could face it again. Need it for legendarys..

On a positive note, got Queen last night by randomly logging in to a Tier 4 map, having parked my toon at the spot and ‘only’ had to wait 15 minutes or so to get the mob required. 10.30pm at night, logged in to get dailies done and noticed the tier..

Getting the Tyria mastery points was torture for me. I tried to do the Dive Master and Going for Gold too. And had to give up mid way because the jumping puzzles became incredibly STUPID.

I just camped Tequatl and Triple Trouble Wurm achievements instead, and got my final 2 points that I needed for Tyria.

WAYYYYYYYY easier than doing those stupid jumping puzzles that waste time and ruin your mind.

And I wouldn’t have to do them if ANET would fix the fractal weapon mastery point… sigh.

That’s what I was going to suggest: just park a character on Dry Top and check in at :45 of the hour whenever you feel like it. I have a couple of characters parked at the quarz nodes (I have way too many characters ), and I find t4 that I log into t4 Dry Top pretty much whenever I log in during sandstorm. From my experience, it looks like most casual maps get to t4 these days.

I don’t have either of those, nor the 3-headed wurm ones or the weapon collections, and I still have more points than I could possibly spend. I do have all the story points, most of s2 story achievements, and all the fractal points though.

The triple wurm points and the one for fractal weapon collections are the only ones I don’t have yet. That’s because those achievements didn’t exist before HoT came out.

Well on my way to finish the collection, but haven’t been to the wurms yet. I might not bother, I don’t need the points and I don’t particularly enjoy the wurms.

Going for Gold is legitimately difficult. Some of those locations are harder than every JP currently in the game. My suggestion is to pull up dulfy, start doing them one by one. Do a couple a day, or maybe 30min on an attempt at one before stopping and doing something else. All I can say, is that some of them took days of rage quitting before I finally got them.

Trouble is, there aren’t that many other ones I fancy doing either. Fractals? No thanks. armor collections- could do, if only it would show me which cultural armor I have already collected so I don’t waste karma on another medium human set when I have that one..

I believe cultural armor has its own collection where you can view what you’ve unlocked. If I recall correctly.

I’d advise to do maps starting from very early stages and not ones at >70%. Afaik, on such maps there’s a much better chance to get a leg before the breach

As someone, over 60, who had 3500 hours plus, Three level 80 & 100% world complete chars…. and I’m still 20 odd points short for getting all the Tyria mastery levels done…. I do feel that the powers to be got something wrong in the points converson. Don’t collect/buy mini’s, dye’s, skins, worthless collections (there are a couple that do actually give a good reward) or try to get every last possible “achievment”.

I hate fractuals…. dont do dungeons…. did PvP a few times before the “new and unimproved” balanced version…. liked WvW and was about 300+ in that but not played the new maps, other than a quick look.

But the most anoying thing to me is that I did pact comander to get auto lot (really handy in mob fights as you dont die becuse of….. just gotta get that…. and have filed the bars for third level “legendary” and “fractual” and now…. nothing… cannot “unlock” as no points… and the “nice gold bar” at the bottom just sits there full…. I have no idea is my points are still acumilating…. I do know that I have lost points because of not noticing the “level” had been completed and when I have clicked “train” for the new level it has started at 0% 0 points….

Have started an official ticket on this and was just told…. do a few boss events etc…. I have done karka/worm/fire/been there done that/tec/claw/ and many more… you dont get the point again….

I asked about taking another char to 100% map complete and was told that its tied to the “bin dare dumb nat” so that will not work either….

Did try a couple of rounds in a fractual this morning (luckily with a really good crew who I just followed/ kept getting rezed by…. but its not changed my view on them

Really am more concerned that I am playing now for no points reward/level reward (not that shards so great)—— but the lack of mastery points around central Tryia just sucks…

Bad play Anet making people go to area they do not like… Bad play to just want new gulible players who “have to have” all these clothes and other pointless stuff you’ve generated since the HOT release

The need to get Mastery Points finally encouraged me to get Going for Gold completed. I did that with my main, a Necromancer. THAT was a chore, but I’m very glad it’s done as I’ll never have to do that one again.

Spectral Walk saved me many, many times.

I also did the dive at the end in one successful jump.
