My fears with Fall of Abaddon and Thaumanova
I agree about the lack of story. I’d like the current dungeons to have their story be a little more visible.
I do not think it necessarily needs to be longer though.
Maybe each fractal could have a quick loading screen that has a paraphrased story of the fractal (with skip option). As it is now, I only understand the story behind the Charr one.

The one area that doesn’t need an in depth story or extra length dungeons is Fractals.
I have always loved the concept of FOTM and the possibilities it can bring. Step in, face off a random set of short instances (some need to be shortened mind imo). Perfect for casual or hardcore due to the levelling. Adding in historical events is a masterstroke.
Making them longer and story based only undermines what makes fractals fun to play (for me), so no I disagree I’m afraid
Thats why i think it should not be a fractal, but rather a separate dungeon. For a lore lover like me, that would be awesome.

I too would love this, unfortunately I can’t see it happening. They have a good idea and theme going with Fractals that transcends the problem of something being outside of the timeline established. I wish it was executed differently, but it isn’t bad.
In all, although I would LOVE for Abaddon’s Fall to be a dungeon by itself, i just don’t see it fitting with the themes going.
Well, Anet released a historical mission pack for Guild Wars 1, which sold in the cash shop. It wasn’t really a group activity though, it was solo, but aside from that, it was far more story oriented than any dungeon in the game.
I think that Anet could do something similar for Guild Wars 2 (though I don’t expect them to do so). It would be pretty cool through of they did.
ANet seem to be getting themselves organised in more recent times.
There was a thread in the dungeons section (cba looking for link) that highlighted most dungeons are based around DPS, that while some coordination and sense of enemy movements were required, the better your DPS the quicker you would finish the dungeon.
ANET are attempting to mix this up more and so I think future dungeons look promising.

Those missions were awesome, easily some of the best in gw1.

Aetherblade retreat was extremely punishing to zerker geared players. High mobility required coupled with OHKO mechanics barely above zerker health levels. People with a bit of vitality could take all the attacks at least once (laser wall, cannon fire, shadow step) while zerkers were on the ground doing zero dps.
Let’s hope they can keep that up.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
In any case, we must choose … And for me as a fan of lore, I can not stand to sacrifice one of the two.
Kssss! I hate net arena for this cursed choice!

This is a good idea, +1
