My issues with GW2
Heart quests are meant to take you deeper into the map. Usually there are events that pop up that lead you to Hearts. Kinda like breadcrumbs to guide you. As long as you do these events, you’ll get enough XP to level. And as you level, more of the game is opened up. Also, grab WayPoints along the way, so you can quickly port to locations on the map.
This isn’t a game where you can just start a new character, and blaze through content. It takes a little effort to get stronger. Once you hit higher levels, you can do more dungeon or raid type events.

I’ve done the heartquests and events I’ve been able to complete/find along the way but even after doing every one of them as they come by, I find myself still lacking in lvls even for the heartquest’line’ of the map. And yes, I always use the scout to locate new heartquests.
And yes, I’m aware that I’m able to raid and PvP on higher lvlels. But as I said I find myself struggling in the basic content.
About the point 3: I want you to give it a final chance.
1: Find someone willing to escort you to lions arch, it will take about 15 minutes or less. You will be auto-leveled to 80 only for that area.
2: Join the main event zergs, wich starts at every exact hour (0:55 honestly). Try to be ranged to not die since it’s hard to understand at the beggining, follow commanders and dodge orange areas.
3: Once the event is done, if your group kills the 3 knights you’ll be ported into an area where your 3rd problem is completely removed. You have to track a LOT of enemy attacks + areas + buffs + debuffs, positional awareness and it’s not easy at all to get the achievements (don’t hit wrong enemy, etc). Players at lvl 80 are using 20 skills at that time because you need everything that could help. 5 from main weapon, 5 from secondary weapon, 5 more from utilities, 5 more dependant on F1-f4 skills by proffesions and sometimes even special combos with other players field areas.
Assuming that you can finish up that big Main event and understand a bit of the chaos… you’ll be always in love with guild wars2. That was my experience with the tower of nightmares and now lion’s arch event is in the same level of awesomeness.
About point 2: You can port to a lot of near places, there’s that things in the map called Waypoints, try to double click them :P GW2 Don’t have mounts because you can easily port everywhere. Besides that, everyone got speed up skills, you just need to unlock them.
About point 1: the personal story is NOT the main thing that you should do to level up. Differently from other MMOs, the story personal of gw2 is not only “optional” but encouraged to not be done to start with. You should first enjoy the game and level up doing hearts (hearts are the quests of gw2. You just find all the hearst in an area, complete them, speak with the npc after completing for special trade/reward) and then complete the personal story whenever that you can.
But seriously, try the lion’s arch event of the 3 knights, it’s worth a game.

There are 5 different zones, human, norn, sylvari, asura, charr. If you visit all of them you won’t be lacking in level.
I usually hit max level after hitting the level40 zones. There are more than enough area.
GW2’s weird quest system forces me to open up google and search for effective methods to lvl as I’d like to advance in the main storyline.
./facepalm Stopped reading after this… have you ever played a video game before?
Thank You all for counselling! Forgot to add that yes, I have found out about waypoints, the issue was when I roam to new areas.

Shouldn’t feed the troll but here goes:
I began playing videogames when I was 5 years old and didn’t even understand English. I began to play with NES and later on with PS1 and 2 when they came up. I haven’t been an MMO player that long, SWtOR was my very first MMO I took ‘seriously’.
GW2 is just so different compared to other MMOs. Am I not allowed to be almost clueless on my first week of GW2 experience?
Don’t feed the troll! xD
I’m neither english, however that shouldn’t be a problem. Just take the good advices and have fun for a few hours, gw2 is really nice once you get deeper and deeper.
The story is continuously changing and that’s why now i did suggest lion’s arch event. That event will dissapear in 13 days and you’ll never be able to see it yourself. And since it’s one of the best ones… you don’t wanna miss it

It’s a good thing you never played Dark Ages of Camelot, as that game was a grind from hell to level. This mmorpg is an absolute joy leveling compared to most older mmorpgs, like Dark Ages of Camelot.
Be sure and rez(revive) downed npcs and real players whenever you see them, as you’ll get experience for that. Also harvest plants, trees, and ores that pop up in your travels, as you’ll also get xp for that as well. (plus you can sell them to merchants/traders)You get xp for just about everything in this game. You’ll need harvest tools to harvest plants, trees, and ore, which can be found on most merchants……get the highest level ones you can find that you can use. Also be sure to buy a salvage kit, as you can salvage certain types of drops, which will gain you more money and xp. (Be sure to get the highest level salvage kit you can use)
I would also echo others who have said to be sure to get waypoints, as that will speed up your travel time greatly.
Also, become familiar with using the traders, as you can find consummables to buy that will buff your abilities, as well as your xp.
Also, try and join a good guild, as that will also enhance your leveling and play experience, as you’ll have access to more help in game. It might take you a few tries to find a guild you like, so don’t get frustrated with that.
You also will need to learn how to spec your character after level 11, as that will also help with making your play experience better. Learn as many different weapon sets as your character can use, as you’ll most likely need different weapon sets depending on the situations you get into. (That’s not crucial, as you can play with a couple weapon sets that you like and do fine……but some people will argue that you need lots of weapon sets to be the most effective)
Feel free to contact me in game and I will also try and help you out. This is truly a great game, and once you get the hang of it, you can actually level fairly quickly(at least compared to most other mmorpgs)
My character is Teon.5168……if I am at a point where I can help you, I will try. (Can’t always, as sometimes I am doing guild events and/or paired up with my wife on higher level stuff)
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

Also, to ad…..be sure and roam your home city, and pickup all the points of interest, viewpoints, and waypoints…..as you’ll get good xp for completing that in a major city. Plus be sure to take the portals to other cities, and do the same……you can get at least a couple levels just completing all the city waypoints/viewpoints/points of interests.

GW2 won’t hold your hand like SWtor does, which means at times you’ll have to look something up. The leveling is non-lineair, just go exploring, do events, jumping puzzles, living story, etc. Don’t rush it, there’s not much endgame like in SWtor, most of it is already accessible on lower levels. sPvP doesn’t require a level, gain 10 more levels and you can go zerg in WvW as long as you’re ranged (easy lvling btw), at lvl 30 you can join your first dungeon (kinda like a flashpoint), etc. When I just started out, I thought all this was awesome and fun.
Also, whatever you do, don’t expect the personal story to have the same depth as SWtors story does.
I completely agree with cranos…..
If you treat this game in a linear manner, as older mmorpgs mainly encourage you to do…..you’ll be horribly frustrated with this game. GW2 is a HUGE world…….bigger than any other mmorpg I have experienced, and to truly enjoy this game, you really need to venture off the simplistic paths(like exclusively heart missions and life story) and try all the other areas of the game. There are so many different things to do and gain experience from…..that is why this game, at least for me, is such a joy. It’s such a complete departure from all the other linear style mmorpgs out there.

1) Outside of the personal story the “quest” system is tied with exploration. You find scouts which tell you the heart quests in the area. Dynamic events you stumble upon while exploring. You should have enough common sense that if you see critters higher level than you, then you shouldn’t be going that way.
Also since the game will scale you down in level to match the area you are in, you could put off your personal story to whenever.
2) This goes back to exploration. As you explore you will unlock waypoints (for XP) which are a rather cheap way to travel around in the world. Pretty much everything is within a minute of running of a waypoint. Of course finding them first may take a bit of time. Plus a lot of the professions have abilities to boost running speed.
3) For me RPGs and MMOs are about exploration along with “discretion is the better part of valor”. But if you want action just attack everything you see. I’m sure you would soon find yourself in a fight that’s very exciting, trying not to die.
