My name is Poetik and I'm an MMO anomaly.
I think Guild Wars 2 is an acquired taste. If you have a taste for it, other MMOs will be too annoying to play. But the same things that annoy me in other MMOs some people like. I’ve tried four different MMOs that have come out in the last couple of years, besides Guild Wars 2, and I had trouble playing all of them, even though they all had things I liked.
At the end of the day though, this game is less annoying than those games. lol
I love this game. My second mmo, and the one I always come back to. (Never played wow.) There is enough variety that I can always find something I feel like doing. The big thing is the lack of a gear grind, by which I mean not being left behind by updates and having to farm some particular content to catch up in a constantly repeating cycle. In fact updates usually level things out, and I generally feel better off after, despite being minimally competitive and not market saavy. This is completely unique to this game as far as I know.
I mentioned on the forums that I liked the watchwork pick because a chance at something extra makes gathering fun, and that I missed the dyes from plants. Then in this update we got a new rare drop from trees. I’m sure this was planned before I even made the post, but it still made me feel like my opinions matter and that this is “my” game, if that makes sense.
It’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly what has me so hooked to Guild Wars 2. I’ve played a few MMO’s in my time – most of which get old after just a few short weeks or months, with nothing to draw me back in for long.
Having never played Guild Wars 1, I had really no interest in GW2 during the pre launch hype, nor any plans to get the game. But a friend gifted me the game, and here I am 4500 hours of play time later.
I’ve had a few times where I’ve experienced burn out similar to that which completely killed my interest in other games, but I always seem to wander back in short order. Nothing seems to grab my attention like this game.
For me personally, I’ve never felt as valued simply as a player, as a customer of an MMO. Arenanet always seems to come up with ways to prove that they’re listening to the playerbase as a whole time and time again, and I simply love the fact that if you pay close enough attention, you can see the evolution and development of not only the game, but the people and developers behind it. Even on a more individual level – I’ve actually seen my feedback and bug reports tackled and fixed, which is something I’ve not experienced much anywhere else.
So yeah. For me right now, GW2 definitely is king.
For the toast!
only reason i re-installed the game was due NSP community >_>, i kitten like to play with those.
