Before launch ArenaNet told us that our home instances would change and grow based on the choices we made over the course of our personal story, and we would be able to take friends into our home instance to show off our choices and accomplishments, and playing through the game again with another character would result in different stuff.

This currently isn’t happening.

As an asura at the level 75 step of my story quest, I finally remembered that I even had a home instance, so I figured I’d pop in there and see what cool stuff I’d accrued. I found 3 NPCs that had played minor roles in my story, and I couldn’t even speak with them. No merchants, no trophies, nothing.

I’m wondering if perhaps this was more of a long-term plan, with stuff being added over the course of the game’s lifetime rather than the initial release – for example, trophies for each slain elder dragon.

How do you feel about home instances?

i like them, but i personnaly feel that the greatest heroes on each servers should get some kind of recognition in game, simply reknown, and maybe a few gameplay mechanics like being able to to participate in in-between server duelist championships and being able to command people easily in wvwvw. at best, being on the server “council”, a player voted council where you can make some decision once in awhile to what ideology your server adhere to in wvwvw.

I wish they had more meaning and an actual (non forced) reason to go there other than for personal story.
I wish there were things that would make me want to go there. But only having like 5 merchants that sells things you can buy everywhere, NPCs you cannot talk to, no storage, no crafting tables or anything.

I think there should be a small garden where we could make plant or tree grow. They could even reintroduce the “dye seeds” but instead of being for dye it would be to put in our garden, and after 24 hours we have a rarer plant or tree to gather.

I also mentioned a school during BWE when people said the tutorial wasn’t very helpful. There could be a school with teachers who explain us the functionality of everything, like they often have in RPGs. And a “dojo” where we could test our skills and dodges, conditions and boons and everythings like that. This would be a good way to make a non forced tutorial by also giving us a reason to go in our home instance.

They really need to make us want to go in our home instance. Right now, I never have a reason to go there unless I’m forced to.

My opinion: Home instances don't currently feel like home.

I don’t know why you’d want to talk to an NPC in this game, to be honest. You can’t even decide what your character should say, and I find that pretty lame for a game that claims to be revolutionizing.

Actually, there are a number of NPC’s in cities and such that will have a conversation with you. In which you choose different replies and questions. It’s all just for dialog really. But I’ve found a few rather humorous.

Though I imagine you’re more interested in saying negative things, than you are in discussing npc dialog trees.

My opinion: Home instances don't currently feel like home.

Hmm.. I had forgotten that there were such a thing until I read this, I’ll have to go have a look but I can’t imagine what they are good for? Seems to me this is something they had plans for but put on the backburner..
