My personal opinions on why I'm not playing anymore
And what is your game of choice?
Do you do that in every forum for every game you play?
If youre too slow for this game, I think turn-based is your choice. But that’s not the problem of the game. There was plenty of information available. Learn to read.
But as paying customer, i have the right to give my feedback as much as the ones who like this game, for i have payed the same price.
Not any right, actually. No one is obligated to let you say anything here. Go write a blog and see if you find someone willing to read it. I won’t.
Maybe you should stick to Civilization.
Just turn the barbarians off and make sure to only have one rival on the map.
OH yeah, don’t forget to set it to easy.
Then what’s left for people who don’t enjoy this hysterical gaming experience and prefer something more slow paced, but with a deeper content and richer mechanisms ?
EVERQUEST! It’s Free 2 Play now so go download a copy and try it out. You get a merc to fight by your side and help you out now. It’s very SLOOOOOOOOW paced and you can spend hours, days, weeks and months just leveling up. You’re the type who will enjoy a game like Everquest because you goto one spot (per level) and basically play that area until you level out of it then goto another one and do the same. Your character will be sitting a lot between battles too so you’ll have like 5-10 minutes between most fights. That’s what you enjoy right?
There was literally reams of info about this game prior to launch. Videos, reviews..you name it. Its really hard to imagine why you even thought this might be the type of game for you?

To be honest, you should get a ban or something, as the OP just stated his feelings about the game. He was not rude to you, why are rude towards him? Are you a bully ONLY on the forums? Please, grow up.
The OP did state something – he likes more complicated, more, lets call it, intelligent games, that are not so based on fast pace, but on tactics, strategy. He obviously likes MMO’s and RPGS, but the industry is going in that direction. Pace. Speed. Even our lives are.
OP, hope you do find a game for yourself. Doubt any MMO will be anymore.
Basically, what i don’t like in GW2 (but in fact it’s the tendency of these last years in PC games) is that it’s not anymore a mmorpg, but it’s an mmo"action game".
Sorry to hear that, but for most of us still playing, that’s one of the best parts about this game.
It’s also something you would have known already if you had read anything ANet said about GW2 for the past 3 years.
Also, check out Hardcore Adventure Box: World 1, World 2, Lost Sessions
Main Character: Dathius Eventide | Say “hi” to the Tribulation Clouds for me. :)
I like chess. Sounds like you might as well?
yeah, it was really deceptive of anet to announce all this a long time in advance and actually making it their USP. Curses, those blackguards!
I like Spinach.
I’m 43 (44 in October) and I have no problems with the “fast paced” gameplay of GW2. But then, I’ve been playing video games for 30+ years and FPS since the very first DOOM like 20 years ago…
Active dodging was already in good old Asheron’s Call 1, a game GW2 shares a lot of common points with, and is a welcome change from the stale “EQ/WoW” threat based gameplay. If you want a WoW clone, there’s a LOT of choice on the market (and I’m not a WoW hater, played the game for 7+ years), at least one game is different, please leave it be.

“I don’t want to be permantly under a frustrating stress”
What stress are you even talking about ? this game is and feels so relaxed to me.Maybe you are just, easily stressed out or something……
For the rest,i know its just you opinion, but i disagree with all.this game is a huge step forward for mmo’s,and the most interesting game i played in a long time, and will continue playig for a long time. The first mmo in wich im actually interested in the story aswell.
But your concerns are valid, though to be surprised that the game was action oriented really indicates that you did not read anything about the game before purchasing.
Though with your spelling, maybe reading is not your forte?
You seem like you could have quick enough reflexes, you bought the game when it first released, right?
Guild wars 1 could also be consider an ‘action MMO’ and the game was release in 2005. So the fast paced combat is not new to Guild Wars 2 . And you are right: as a paying customer you have the right to give your feedback. But the intelligent move, as a customer, would have been to get information about the game before you waste your money on game you will not like….
And what is your game of choice?
My guess would be Solitaire…
I write here why i won’t be playing this game anymore, because as there is no monthly abonment, it’s the only way for me to give my feedback to Arenanet.
It’s one thing to sell 2 millions boxes on promesses and massive advertising, it’s another thing to satisfy your customers with the real product you give them.Basically, what i don’t like in GW2 (but in fact it’s the tendency of these last years in PC games) is that it’s not anymore a mmorpg, but it’s an mmo"action game".
Fast fast fast, always faster, always more action, “fast-paced” fight, “dynamic” gameplay which in fact very soon fail to hide a chronical lack of richness and depth, just like these zillions of hollywoodian movies where there is always more action, faster action, shiny effects, and the scenario is always poorer…
I’m not a teenager, and i don’t want to play console type games on my PC. I don’t want to be permantly under a frustrating stress. Maybe this game is mainly made to attract the new generation, but for my part i find absotutely no pleasure in it.
It’s not too hard by its cleverness, it’s artificially too hard by unfair and unpleasant mechanisms based on reflexes over reflexion.
If i want such a game i buy a console. On my PC i want to play something more intelligent, more interesting than endlessly and aimlessly fighting monsters in such a chaotic way.
Of course, i don’t have to play GW2 if i don’t like it, and that’s why i have removed it from my PC. But as paying customer, i have the right to give my feedback as much as the ones who like this game, for i have payed the same price.
I could just forget it and go play something else, but the problem is that it’s not an isolated case, most PC games nowadays, be it online or not, tend to become console games-like.
Then what’s left for people who don’t enjoy this hysterical gaming experience and prefer something more slow paced, but with a deeper content and richer mechanisms ?
Really not much.
But my question finally is : are we really such a small minority who don’t enjoy the way the new PC games are designed ? (and all entertainment and cultural products in general).
I only read a little of your post and stopped.
Are you mad? Guild Wars 2’s intention isn’t to do the game as fast as posibile.
It’s just the opposite! It’s about exploring, having fun and do as many things as you can.
They always said it and the game shows it.
What is wrong with you people? Are you blind or something?
Please, just quit without this nonesense.
I appreciate that the OP took the time to explain why he didn’t like the game. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I like reading opinions from different viewpoints. Bashing him for it is just a waste of resources.
I think the Dynamic Events tell a bit of story, but I don’t know if this is the depth some people crave. There is lore in the game. It’s not my thing, but I think some people are into it.
I think maybe tactical play might be what’s lacking for some people. WvW has been a bit of zergfest, but I think strategy is starting to emerge. Maybe if the OP hasn’t left yet, he could try different objectives in that mode of play. I’m looking forward to the longer reset-times for WvW, as I find the daily resets a little anti-climactic.

I’m 54 and I have absolutely no problem with the pace of the game – not least because the game also offers lots of opportunities to just hang out and smell the roses. There’s a ton of detail you can get into if you just hang around a place listening to NPC conversations and talking to the NPCs. Also because of the teleport system, you have the choice of walking to get immersion and atmosphere, but the option of using teleport when you just want to get from A to B.
If you’re talking about taking time pondering builds, this game has a VERY deep build system that you can spend hours beard-stroking with.
If it’s the combat gameplay itself, then I’m afraid it’s just a L2P problem. Are you a keyboard turner? If you want to feel more comfortable with modern games, then you have to make the effort to find a tree and learn to circle strafe using mouse and keyboard; you will also have to spend some time pondering keybinds and finding keybinds that are really comfortable and enable fast play.
Then you will actually enjoy the fast-paced nature of the combat – and therefore enjoy the alternating rhythm of fast-paced combat with an incredibly rich and detailed virtual world to just mosey about in at your leisure.
Frankly, this game world feels more alive than any MMO I’ve ever played.

I also don’t think this game is stressful at all. In fact, quite the opposite. I can casually wander a zone, doing events that I want, skipping ones I don’t. If you are OCD and need to finish every event that shows up on your map, that could get stressful, especially in later zones when there are 2-3 going on in the same area.
Try rolling a “Greatsword 5-signet warrior”, you can get by using only 2 abilities from 1-80, the auto attack and Hundred Blades.

Seems the Warrior is nice.
Definitly going to check out Warrior then. I even started with a Warrior but I rolled to Guardian. But I can say I’m a real melee person. I always take the melee classes. Except for Ranger, I like that one too.

Do you make this observation in light of any MMORPGs you’ve played?
I ask because I find this game similar in pace to every MMORPG I’ve ever played.
I’m thinking it’s just a genre issue, not a matter of “these newfangled computer games.”
You just sound like a turn based, or semi-turn based (ala Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights) gamer. The speed your asking for sounds intolerable to most users in a massively multiplayer environment.

OP, hope you do find a game for yourself. Doubt any MMO will be anymore.
What you fail to see is the fact that when the OP referred to GW2 as unintelligent he is also saying this about the players.
Now given how poorly written the post is, the OP really should refrain from casting aspersions.
Also, when one posts in an open forum, one potentially invites negative feedback, especially when one passive aggressively insults the GW2 player base who DO like the game.
So no one should be banned for airing a point of view or disagreement.
Btw, I’m 41 (soon to be 42) and I’ve been gaming since I was 10, so lets be easy on the age thing, not all of us are snails.

And if you wanted “achievement”, you flippped a switch on the console and you could have 2 squares to play with on screen! But that was probably too fast paced for some people

You do need intelligence if you want to do the dungeons without a massive repair bill.

the mocking is not due to him voicing his dissatisfaction, but his disregard for the GW2 marketing. He is basically like someone buying Call of Duty and going “what, there are guns in this game – no!” Call me old fashioned, but I usually check on a game before I lay the cash on the counter.

What Solitaire are you playing? Mine has a time limit, way too fast.
I didnt like the game when I first played it, the BWE’s was too confusing with too much spells going on and fast cast everywhere, I really hated that.. until I tested the WvWvW and have to quickly learn how to use my skills and push/pull enemies like a real battle. Then, I returned to do some PvE and the attacks I though were fast and on steroids, suddendly slowed down.
Now, I can’t stop playing.

Since the style of game is different then the norm, it can be overwhelming at first. Some people just do not like a change, they want everything the same forever and fight any attempt at change.

There is no definition for a PC or Console game past a game which is made to run on those various platforms.
You can find slow paced deep games on console, just as you can find fast paced action games on PC. Your issue isn’t that those games don’t exist its that you haven’t found them (or aren’t looking past major publications). Your problem isn’t the GW2 is a bad game simply that you picked the wrong game for your sensibilities. Personally I love the combat as I am glad the MMO’s are more rapidly adopting a move away from turret macro spamming combat.
My suggestion is to look into Indie gaming, especially on Steam (specifically the reemergence of the point and click adventure game happening there). But GW2 was never advertised to be the kind of game you are looking for (gameplay wise).

He didn’t really talk about the very great parts of the game in his post. I think his main issue is the twitch aspect of combat and that speed and reflexes (read: skill) rewards the player. He who is faster and can react to a given animation to dodge or CC or counter attack wins the day. He doesn’t seem to like that in his games.
I think he is stuck in the Ultima Online days where you right click to move and spam left mouse to attack. UO was a masterpiece – don’t get me wrong. For it’s time that was an awesome game.
Most gamer’s relate enjoyment to tests of skill and speed / reflexes and HATE basing ones worth on the armor they have on. I value myself as a skilled gamer but in a game like wow where I could not attain the highest tier gear due to time constraints – I was viewed as a lesser gamer because of my gear score. Yeah in my prime I was pushing 40+ hours a weak and had the best gear in the game… you can’t do that forever.
I would much rather pride myself on my own person skill vs. the game telling me how powerful I am based on a number representing my defense, or how many times I miss being based on a number.
Who can honestly sit there and say standing face to face with a boss and swinging 20 times at, and him swinging 20 times at you was fun? Only to find out that because of my stats I missed X times and he missed me X times.. What? I’m standing right here how could I have possibly missed him?! He is ten feet TALL! How did he miss me?
The OP did state something – he likes more complicated, more, lets call it, intelligent games, that are not so based on fast pace, but on tactics, strategy. He obviously likes MMO’s and RPGS, but the industry is going in that direction. Pace. Speed. Even our lives are.
I have a problem with this label being bandied about as I think speed is critical to intelligent, tactical thought.
How intelligent do I have to be if I have hours to come up with and implement my strategy and plenty of time to come up with counter strategies to my opponents strategy. The ability to intelligently think on the fly is to me far more tactical then turn based or turret style MMO’s/RPG’s. As well as a much better show of intelligence. There are challenging fights to be had in GW2, and they really arn’t even that hard to find.
Solo a Champion, as I will tell you that takes a lot of strategy to keep your health up and continually damage your opponent. Running in and out of melee (swapping to range) applying you buffs, boons, and debuffs at the right time. Proper utility usage, attack timing, and dodging aren’t just prescribed reflexes, but take for thought and proper application.

Aih will be back. I think the percentage of people who start a thread to announce their uninstall who end up playing again is quite high.
That being said it sounds like Aih is more into strategy games than anything. If slow methodical decision based games are your cup of tea go play chess or another strategy game that’s more to your liking. I appreciate strategy games quite a bit which is why I dislike all of Aih assertions so much.
What he sees as chaos I see as fast paced strategy. Doing away with the traditional class roles has opened so many different possible tactics among different classes and combinations it’s just so fun. Anyone who doesn’t see that simply doesn’t want to think too hard or simply isn’t comfortable with the pace.
Last thing is that if a game isn’t designed in a way that is what you may consider the optimal way it doesn’t make it bad it’s simply doesn’t meet your exact taste. Why people feel the need to tell the world about it is beyond me.
I just wish this game had exp loss at death and full loot PVP =)
It sounds as if a game like Lord of the Rings online may be the game for you. they have a free to play aspect you can use to check it out.
It’s slower, the mobs are few and far in between in most places, and the pace is a crawl . . . combat wise anyways.

I just dont understand what the OP was thinking he was getting into. There were videos and weekends and test periods everywhere for him to understand what the game was going to be like on a base level. There is plenty of depth but the floor for this game is very low allowing everyone to get in and play.
I fully respect your opinion and the manner in which you delivered it…kudos.
I have a few issues myself such as the difficulty of dungeons and a feeling of repetitiveness. It is different than WoW, which I have no problem whatsoever admitting I played the crap out of, and it is similar in some respects.
I haven’t yet felt pulled in to the world and lore as I had hoped I would, but can sincerely appreciate the effort involved to create the game.
Fun, very large, well worth the admission price. But probably won’t keep my attention to much longer.
I only read a little of your post and stopped.
Are you mad? Guild Wars 2’s intention isn’t to do the game as fast as posibile.
It’s just the opposite! It’s about exploring, having fun and do as many things as you can.
They always said it and the game shows it.What is wrong with you people? Are you blind or something?
Please, just quit without this nonesense.
I agree.
I think that a lot of people need to understand that they really aren’t very good at gaming, and perhaps evaluate trying out a different hobby rather than being frustrated in trying to do something they really aren’t good at. If you don’t like to have your speed and reflexes tested, there are turn-based type games available that don’t have that, but in the RPG area, the trend is in this direction because most gamers find this fun, and are reasonably good at it. I’m not a teenager, in my mid 40s, and I can “keep up” because I am a reasonably skilled gamer — not the best, but by no means the worst, either. But if you are having trouble keeping up, it may be a good idea to find a different hobby, I think, because this is the direction these kinds of games are going to go in now, for very good reasons.
Are we going to get a rant post by anyone who thinks that by buying a game he is entitled to try and radically change the game’s core philosophy? And how is this thread not locked already?? I can’t see anything constructive. Actually, I am gonna report myself and see what happens
Maybe its my DCUO background, but I have no problems with this game being fast-paced. Infact I love it. What I hate are games where you just stand there and spam spells and get healed by a healer. Maybe if you like the traditional boring MMO you should go play WoW. I heard they have a new exspansion out. You even get to play as a Kung Fu Panda.
I’m not a teenager, and i don’t want to play console type games on my PC. I don’t want to be permantly under a frustrating stress.
I find absolutely no pleasure in it.
It’s artificially too hard by unfair and unpleasant mechanisms based on reflexes over reflexion.
chaotic
hysterical gaming experience
All of this sounds like you were shocked at the game play. We live in a world dominated by you tube videos, twitter feeds, facebook, message boards.
This very site had lots of movies on all the classes and their MMO manifesto talked about the viceral, fast paced combat mechanic, it’s a shame you didn’t take the time to check around a little bit to know that you were getting into.
Honestly – the evolution of the genre has always been to move to a more Real-Time experience IMO. Lots of this wasn’t possible technology wise for years. Now we have much stronger hardware and internet connections capable of moving the large amount of data required to have all this real time combat in MMO’s.
We didn’t roll dice back in the day for combat because it was the best way – it was the only way, and all we had to simulate real time combat. It has always been about the best way to portray a real-time fight.
I mean, at it’s core we are talking about fighting right? The most accurate way to portray a fight is to actually BE the person swinging at your pace, rolling and dodging at your pace and removing numbers from the equation totally.
It sounds to me like you want the genre to stand still and be content with an older technology that suited you because it was more relaxing. I can see that – we all lead stressful lives I guess, to an extent, and games are our release from the stress. Pushing the stress bar even higher than it already is in life doesn’t sound fun to me either – I see that point clear enough.
I guess I am a different breed of 30-40yr old gamer than you.
