I am writing this post out of pure frustration right now, normally I tend to read forums more than post on them.
I played this game from beta and loved it for the first year or so I played. My prefered game mode was WVW with pve funding my campaign. Things there have not changed with WVW players being much poorer than their pve counterparts. That is unless you jump on the farcical EOTM farm train, that is new to me and makes no sense whatsoever.
Rather than ramble on my main points are:
1. Apart from around 95% of my WVW friends no longer in game WVW has not changed at all. I know changes will come with the expansion but kitten it better be worth the wait.
2. I have tried some pvp and it seems it has changed for the worse. I used to love playing the odd pvp match but what is the point of allowing premade groups fight pug groups in unranked? I really dont care if try hards complain about queue times in ranked because they are all stomping pug groups in unranked. If there is no casual pvp then how is anyone expected to enjoy it and learn enough to get to the standard of joining ranked?
3. So called hardcore PVE? is there such a thing in GW2? The leveling experience is a credit to the devs, way ahead of any other game and is why I have 8 level 80 characters. This attitude of blitzing content as fast as possible and these farm trains though are ruining the game. For me people who farm content with meta builds and trains, people who play the trade post all day, I know you are entitled to play how you like but why not try all aspects of the game rather than force people to be experts in one game mode?
To sum up I had high hopes, and still do for the expansion, but
WVW is currently stale and boring
PVP join a premade or expect to get destroyed by one regularly
PVE farm silver wastes, zerker only (even though I spend more time ressing people than pve ing) stack and ignore mechanics in dungeons, make stupid requirements of people like AP and gear for content that was never that hard to begin with cos you have to do it in less than 5 minutes.
Am I being too pessimistic?

PvP isn’t going to get better. Not only are pugs still going to queue with premades, now you will have to vote between Conquest or the new mode, “Stronghold”. That’s right, you could end up on a pug, playing a format you don’t want to play in a map you don’t like against a premade. Add to that the fact that people that haven’t bought the x-pac could be on your team without access to the elite specs which so far to me look just a tad better than their regular spec cousins. I could be way off on that in the end with the elite specs, but it’s a moot point. All that other stuff can and will happen from time to time. Wanna queue up for some Conquest before work? Not before getting 3 straight stronghold matches due to it being the new hotness and more people than not wanting to play it.

How do you know those you are getting up are running zerk? There’s no gear check.

Speaking from a PVE-only point of view…

You are right I shouldn’t assume people are running zerker I am more annoyed at the leet players who tell people to learn to do pve in zerker or they aren,t doing it right.

I can’t argue with most of your post but there are definitely some condi builds running in SW, such as my necro. Zerk doesn’t work well in SW in my experience. However, there are some issues with AFKers, and then sometimes just insane amounts of high level mobs spawn at once, pretty much killing most players in a short period of time (i.e. some vinewrath lanes).

But yeah, it’s pretty kitten stale otherwise. I know ANet is relying on HoT to breathe life in here, but I don’t know if I’ll still be here by then. Used to be when I had a day off I’d look forward to playing for a good half a day. Now I can barely make it through an hour while I’m having my coffee. Then reading a book seems like time better spent.

Sorry, I digressed there. Anway, I understand what you’re saying, and I realize you aren’t just saying it’s boring. Maybe take a break until HoT and see if there are some improvements by then, but honestly, I kinda doubt it.

If what you want more than anything is karma, empyreal shards, or super-fast leveling, then it makes perfect sense.

Ignore those idiots and play the game how you want to play it, rather than worrying or getting frustrated by people who want you to play the game as they see it. There are always leetists and hardcores in any mmorpg……if that is not your playstyle, then it is best to ignore them.

I just enjoy the game and play how I want to, as do most members of the guild I am in.

And eotm is enjoyable for players that enjoy that sort of content……don’t let it bug you. If you don’t like, then don’t play that part.

You should try Silverwastes……that is a fun, new pve area, and the drops can be quite good.

And pvp is a mixed bag…..sometimes you get matched against premade groups, other times no……I win as much as I lose……you just have to go in with the attitude that sometimes it will be horribly overmatched in non-ranked pvp…it is not a big deal, imo.

As others have suggested here, either continue your break until HoT comes out, or just play it casually until HoT hits.

OMG! Someone is gating COF P1 with AP and Zerker gear!

I must get mad at them and write about it on the forum despite the fact that there are a dozen non-gated COF P1 parties I could join instead.

Straight up I’ve always been more of a pve/rp kind of player (truth) but I have become seriously hooked on wvw in this game. Granted I’ve not had gw2 for very long but the dynamics of play and community are very addictive. Personally I would like to see a better means of making gold by keeping players in the wvw maps rather than having to take breaks to go pve farm.

So you want these people that play how they want to try other parts of the game but then turn around and say other peopler the berserker wearers that want you to try and play like they do their parts are wrong becouse you dont want to.

Seems like you have mixed signals here mate.

Play how you want join people in dungeons that have all welcome msgs and open world noone can tell you what to wear anyway so go for it.
