So far in my experience, b/c these chests are of rare quality, they have replaced the rare loot table at all JP chests and other chests scattered around the world, even though most of them aren’t part of the Ornament Collection quest. I used to get an occasional rare in these chests and now all i get is these grubby chests, which when opened contain a broken ornament which is grey junk. Even worse, they don’t even stuck up when unopened.

Couple that with many other chests in the world also contain treasure map fragments (which is useless to me since i’ve already claimed my treasure, as i’m sure many other ppl have) replacing rare loot table even further. So at the moment, ur basically getting junk all around, making it doing JP’s and hunting these chests around the world an exercise in futility, if ur hoping for a chance at a nice drop.

Does anyone know if these chests will be removed after wintersday or are they there to stay?

And please Anet, get rid of them.

I’m pretty sure it’s an addition to the loot table from chests. Usually form JP chests you get 3 items. At the moment, you get 3 items plus the grubby chest.

Just think of it as a free extra silver for each chest you open.

You are wrong, there was no “rare loot table” slot for JP’s. Those rares appeared as an upgrade to normal greens and blues, and the new chest doesn’t replace those slots. The chests are an additional drop, and do not remove anything.
