Hey guys,

I just wanted to say that we have a little problem with mystic coins. There is not a rly good way to get and all ppl need them very much. Would be nice if Anet insert a better way to receive mystic coins. I think they forgot to think about the need and the way to get them.

Ofc you can buy them in trading post but a long time before you earned them with the dailies and had enough of them for your own need. Now it is a problem if you take a look on the price because you cannot get them in a fair way.

Does any1 agree?

This topic was brought up here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Discussing-Mystic-Coins/first.

Almost a month ago now. However I am not going too be too surprised if starts becoming a recurring subject, until something is done.

EDIT: Because having a word like “until” and “topic” (next to each other) causes the latter word to get censored. So changed the word “topic” to “subject”.

I am lucky…i have an abundance of Mystic Coins built up form them previously being in the daily rewards. But I understand the need and lower acquisition rate being an issue for those just getting started in the game.

Perhaps just adding 1 Mystic coin back into each Daily Reward Chests, not including the gathering Dailies Chests. (Not just having them in the Mystic Forge Daily Reward Chest), or perhaps that would help those who need to build up some Coins.

Just a thought.

I do because I can
I can because I want to
I want to because you said I couldn’t

Also there is another way to get around the problem of Mystic Coins being limited by the daily reward system. It’s by having multiple premium (non-F2P) accounts. Furthermore it even helps with other time gated account bound content. Wanted to get that out of the way before anyone starts saying: “it’s suppose to be limited; hence why Mysitc Coins were nerfed to this supposedly “perfect system” we have now.”

What do people make with them on a regular basis?

I usually let them accumulate until I have 250 in the bank, or until I need the money, then sell them on the TP. Or donate them to my guild, which I guess might be the answer to my question, but in that case I’d strongly recommend making sure everyone in the guild is aware they’re needed because I’ve had numerous experiences where the guild really needs something and it’s only when someone mentions it in chat that other people say they have loads and had no idea it was required for upgrades.

What do people make with them on a regular basis?

MF weapons or Legendaries.

You get 20 per month. You need 50-100 for MF weapons, and one or two stacks for Legendary Weapons. Crafting Nevermore for instance would take 2 years of login rewards if Mystic Coins were bound.

What do people make with them on a regular basis?

Money. I sell them on the TP to players who need them.

What do people make with them on a regular basis?

Like Sid Mad said it’s not just used for Guild Upgrades (as seen at the bottom page of this link).

It’s also used for feast recipes, mystic forge equipment (including some infusions) , legendaries (more for 2nd gen), and even that wintersday presence collection (Runes and Sigils included).

You also have to take the fact that many of new players were not around when Mystic Coins used to be plentiful. Which also really starts jumping up the demand for them. Furthermore that demand will keep increasing as more recipes are introduced that use them.

For a long time, (some) people complained that mystic coins were undervalued. Now, (some) people are complaining they are overvalued. I think it’s fine either way:

  • if they are undervalued, stuff is cheap to make, which benefits one set of players.
  • if overvalued, those who don’t need the coins earn extra gold by selling them, benefiting a different set of players.

The only thing that worries me is whether ANet has reconsidered the current set of sources, given that they keep increasing the number of sinks.

Mystic coins are still PvE dailies, you get one for the MF daily when it comes up, which on average is about 1/4 of the time. Plus we still get 20 every 28 daily logins.

I have 932, bit of a pack rat.

Actually it’s more like Arena Net striking fair balance. Which does not have a massive loop hole. Laurels are in somewhat of a perfect spot and people hardly complain about them. Unless you bring up the time gated issue in general. Unfortunately when Arena Net sees something out of whack, they go in the extreme polar opposite direction to fix it. Instead of fixing the real underlining issue with a proper balance. Either removing said feature, making it useless, or increasing it scarcity to astronomical levels. Saying they will come back to it latter.

EDIT:

Mystic coins are still PvE dailies.

As far as I know it’s only one PvE daily type that rewards them. It is the Mystic Forger one (as you mentioned), which does show up sparingly during the month.

I don’t understand why you think that applies to mystic coins. They have always been useful and they aren’t “astronomically” scarce; they are just scarcer than we are used to. There’s really no such thing as a “proper balance” — one player’s “too expensive” is another player’s windfall and one player’s “useless” is another player’s “thank kormir I can afford these”.

Earlier in the game’s history, the coins were as high as 13s, which seems cheap compared to today’s 30-40s, until you remember that most people had trouble putting together the 2g to unlock traits, i.e. 13s then was harder to come by than 40s is now.

I know lots of people with no interest in forging stuff that uses mystic coins — they are happy to get the extra gold from the login rewards. (And of course, I know lots who hate that the coins are more expensive now, too.)

Again, my only worry is whether ANet has considered that the current equilibrium is going to break as soon as they release the next set of legendary weapons. Without tweaking the sources, the current supply of 35k on the TP is going to seem like a metric kitten [sic] ton.

I doubt most players even use mystic coins. Most people probably simply deposit them, only bothering to sell them once they overflow.

Forget how they used to be something that you could casually toss around and see them for what they are now, as something like laurels, except tradable. What they’re used for isn’t exactly common stuff, but rather rarities and long term goals.

it seems to me that they are balanced quite well. Their price and supply are both stable and reasonable. If they reach 1g each then maybe we could talk about changing the supply.

Is there any actual reasons other than “I don’t have enough money” that these should be changed? Gemstones for instance can’t be gotten reliably due to dust limits and node limits. Coins are used for 1 time use items for the most part (Legendary weapons, guild upgrades, winter’s presence), with a few more regular sinks (mystic weapons). They are acquired at a constant rate and balanced around this rate.

I think this is an important aspect to remember, when discussing availability and price of any item.

One of the most common complaints I hear on this forum is that there are hardly any good drops in this game, and 9 times out of 10 if you get into detail what that person means is that very few of the drops you can get are worth a lot of gold.

But for people who want to buy dropped skins, or a full set of exotics or whatever else it’s a fantastic system because it means they can get the items they want without having to farm for hours or pray for a lucky drop themselves.

Who is to say one of those people is right and the other is wrong, or which one of them deserves the outcome they want?

You just proved my point. Right now we don’t have many methods in acquiring them, so they are on a stark rise, because of the demand. Arena Net wants new players to come into the game and spend as much time as they can in game. However some of these “corrections” to old systems and new sinks have made it equally hard for new player to get these older items. Which can turn off some people wanting to get these items altogether, and go play something completely different.

As vets we had an easier time, because the older system allowed us to take advantage of the once undervalued Mystic Coin. So I understand why most of us don’t complain about it being a non-issue. As some of us have thousands of mystic coins sitting in our in game bank. Simply because we have no use for them anymore. Except for profiting off the higher demand.

I have like 2k of these things to reasonable buyer. O.O If you’re after Clovers, I’m working on my third stack from PvP…wish I could sell/trade those….

I understand the shortage but, if you’re not trying to rush, these are ‘trophies for attendance’. Just log in for 10 mins daily.

And maybe ANet decided that things that are made by Mystic Coins are supposed to be long term goals instead of short term goals.

Whether ANet’s got that adjusted currently to how long on average it would take players to get those items where it wants it sitting at, that I do not know.

And it could also be people seeing these threads and hoarding and buying up for when they run up in price to sell them and in reality it won’t ever run out even if they add in a few more recipes that ask for it.

Again, you would have to log in 10 mins daily for the next two years simply to have enough coins to craft Nevermore.

I’m OK with the current price though. Yet I’m concerned the market won’t stay stable much longer. We shall see.
