I had a simple idea, buy some junk exotics, toss them in the forge, get a normal one. That was before i did the math and realized even then i would not make a profit. What happened next is interesting. Out of my 4-5 tries ONE of the items was selling on sell order above 1 gold.

Now i don’t know about you but i did some statistics in college and unless you are meant to only get junk exotics from that, the dices are fixed. An algorithm based on the marked value of the output or something.

Understand that the marked value could simply be due to the rate at which they get placed on the TP aswell. People do buy them for cheap dark matters. Another thing you need to consider is that the mystic forge is meant to be the main goldsink of the game.

No. Simply because the forge has to go by some rules. It is my understanding you put in 4 of something, you get something of the same kind. That’s the concept.

For the forge to actually discriminate against what is trendy or valuable, someone paid for that code to be written, it sure as hell didn’t write itself.

To make a gold sink is one thing, but to label it as a lottery is another.

You probably don’t understand how the mystic forge works. Also, a sample size of 4-5 tries isn’t remotely viable information to go off of.

You put 4 rare daggers in? You’ll always get a dagger in return, with an 80% chance of it being another rare, and a 20% chance of it being exotic. I can’t confirm exactly the drop rate on precursors, but I remember reading a thread somewhere on Reddit that it’s about a 1/800 chance of getting a precursor from 4 weapon rares, regardless of their type.

Exotics have different values on the market and there are a LOT of variants out there. I figured if it did not discriminate against the value of the input, there would be a fair chance to get something more expensive.

Now i did not realize i wouldn’t make a profit even if, but i did find out there’s a bit of extra code preventing you to make profit many times on a row.

You should have figured out also, that if something is more expensive at TP, it’s likely because it is not a common forge drop. If you can get something out of MF easily, it will always be cheap, because it can be massproduced.
You are confusing cause and effect here.

(So, it’s not the Forge that discriminates against expensive exotics. It’s TP that discriminates against easily gained exotics. For obvious reasons.)
