When I bought the HoT expansion, they had me make sure I was buying for the correct region that was “NA / EU” and I’m wondering if I can play with my friend who has an account on an EU server, or if they are separate servers entirely.

Can not play with EU player if on NA server.
Consider making a free account on the other region if transfer is not something you want to do.
