Ive noticed that some people have accent marks over some letters in their characters name. How do they get this?

You type them… Sorry if the answer is dumb, but that’s how it is.

If you use an English keyboard and don’t have accent marks, you can 1) paste and copy the character from the internet (or from a font viewer) or 2) install a keyboard layout for a foreign language that uses the accent marks you’re looking for.

EDIT – To make it easy…

I think you can also get them by holding down the alt key and typing a number sequence on the numpad. There are charts somewhere of what combos create what accented characters. It’s a lot of extra typing per character but might be easier (once you memorize the sequences) than copy-pasting from another window.

I’m pretty sure that not all of them work in the game, but the Umlaute and circumflexes should.

You may want to think twice before using special characters, however, because they can be difficult for other players (especially English-language players) to type, for the same reason you weren’t sure how to get a name like that.

You don’t have to type another player’s name often, but it can occasionally make /join and the like awkward if you’re not careful. Don’t rule it out, but it’s worth considering if you’re just adding accents for kicks.
