Names.
There are tons and tons of possible names. Most have no restrictions.
So you dont think restricting every thing with “hugh G” is too much? “hugh g agreement” Banned “Hugh g Anderson” Banned “Hugh G Election” Banned.. and so on…
Probably because if you check Hugh G in the Urban Dictionary you get a hit. Try changing the G to something else, like E.
ANet may give it to you.

I don’t care if it’s too much or too little, because there are so many other possible names. There are far more names that I want that are unrestricted and unavailable because other folks had the same idea; it’s easy enough to find alternatives to that and therefore I don’t think it’s worth ANet’s time to worry about why “Hugh G” should or should not be allowed.
Also, I suspect that people who actually participate in elections with Hugh G don’t spend much time worrying about whether everyone knows or not. Maybe you can find a synonym for the idea in a foreign language that the automated censor won’t recognize.
Can’t you just give your character a name instead of a silly joke?
It’s very common when someone names their character something ‘funny’ that the joke wears off after a couple of minutes, but the character is stuck with that name until either deletion or Name Change Contract is used.
The restrictions are there to protect our younger players from possible profane names, this being a 12+ game an all.
At launch I could not get the name I wanted, because it had the word “dope” in middle of the name. So I just changed P to B. It’s almost as similar than the original name
I named a toon the same as my acc name and that got banned after a year.
Apparently it was found offensive and inappropriate.

You could try using ASCII characters? At this point it’s hard to tell if some names are unavailable because they are taken or because they are blacklisted because it was offensive.
Unless you search every name you come up with to see if it appears on UD as meaning something else that you may not even be aware of…and let’s be honest, not all of us are hip enough to know that some word we use everyday could mean something else to a different generation. I mean, yes, protecting younger pepole is a good thing, but banning names because someone somewhere said it meant BAD…please.
Besides, I’ve recently seen a whole crop of character names that I’m not sure how they possibly got past the censors, yet there they are in game.
[HaHa] Hazardous Hallucination
this is what i love the most about Anet is the name policies. and the reason why i play this
game a lot they are not like other companies at all . when i play my video game the last
thing want to see in this game ever is names to do with topics like religion and politics
and body part names . which i seen a lot of the body parts names in the game as of late
sadly to say . and thos that have them types of names should be banned or removed
till they can change there name to something good and clean . which is not hard at all
to do . and if they do it again well then they should be banned
Why is so important for some people how OTHER people call themselves? I can’t understand that obsession with controlling everything the rest do.
Younger people know and use WAY MORE profanities than I do. I don’t see how naming my toon something like “KungkittenKing” could offend them.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Just to add my agreement with others above, there are literally billions of names that can be created. I am also sure you can find an alternate permutation of the name you want. I have done this on a few of my tunes.
Unlike Ardid, I don’t understand why a person can’t just think, “That name is taken. Next!” There are a lot of things we want be don’t get. I find this to be a “get over it” moment.
Probably because if you check Hugh G in the Urban Dictionary you get a hit. Try changing the G to something else, like E.
And yet “Hugh Jass Bawls” is allowed, go figure.
You could always try Tine E Agreement. That might work. =)

Hey there,
The name is blocked for a security reason having to do with the prevention of someone designating themselves as a “GM.” (Separate “G” and separate “M” posed impersonation and abuse problems in the past, so we simply disallowed those two letters when used independently, and of course “GM” as well.) I believe there would be no objection to Hughg or another use that did not involve a self-standing letter “G.” Other forum members have made some viable suggestions for you, as well.
What the agent responding to your ticket intended for you to do — and I admit the response was not clearly written — was to suggest that if you felt the name filter had an issue you could give your feedback on that.
The forums are not intended as a place to protest, debate, or appeal CS decisions. The CS team is not the place to go to request renaming, as you did.
Now that you better understand the situation, I’ll close this thread.
