I’ve always tried to get the name Death Dealer on every mmo i’ve ever played but it’s always taken. Funny thing is i’ve never come across a player named death dealer ever in any mmo. Do they roll the name and just never play? I mean really, i never seen a toon with that name. I’m not complaining, just think it’s weird that i never seen anyone with that name but it’s always taken lol

Names are for entire region I believe. So yeah, I went through 20 or so before being able to pick one. Grantded I am not creative with names. Also yes, I did take names for all 5 slots already because of that.

were you there trying to get it the first second the head start opened up? if you were and still didn’t get it, that sucks, but a name like that will be gone in seconds.

As I just said, yes I was. I tried to get them as soon as the word got out that the servers were up, but no good.

I’m pretty sure it has to do with what you get if you take away the first and last letters…

Just play around with the spelling til you get the phonetic interpretation you want. May look weird in text, but eveyone will know you are….Deth Dealer, Deth Deeler, Deth Deelir, Daeth Dealer, Daeth Deeler, Daeth Deelir etc., etc..

You can do this on any name and get the effect you want.

Alleria Windrunner.

I was under the impression she was a relatively obscure character, having only appeared in one expansion pack 15 years ago. On the other hand I also think it’s one of the best parts of one of the best games I’ve ever played, and she was my favourite character so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised that other people like her too.

I’m happy with Alleria Wildrunner as an alternative. I got kind of attached to it in GW1 anyway.

I tried to make a Norn, female warrior the other day. Decided to go all mythological with the name…… every single Valkyrie was taken, in both English and Norwegian spelling…. bck to my hobbit, sorry asura guardian!

I actaully bought a name change in GW 1 so I could guarentee my Valkyrie name…bad english spelling but Hlaoguor Svanhvit has been mine for a year now

Had I gotten River as a name it would have been free.

My standard names for every MMO since UO have been:
Publius,
Picus,
Equus

None of them were available within ~20 minutes of the server being up, I settled for other Latin names (I have a thing for Ancient Latin and Roman history).

Let me guess, Daphneh was taken too? -_- I don’t like when names I want are taken but no big deal, there’s always something. My name here on the forum for example is a shortening of Agamemnon as a compromise.

I’m mildly surprised that I managed to snag “Vsin”. I mean, I ran into a guy several years ago in GW1 who overlapped with my old V + class/role naming scheme.

Other than that though, Aldracity seems to be unique to me since I’ve managed to snag it on every game I’ve tried. I also have auraofblade, but I haven’t really used that one since Exteel…

“Rose” was easily taken within 2 seconds actually.

You also got to remember you could reserve a character name…. So most of the “good” names were taking before the servers even came up.. lol it sucks I wanted to be Raven, or Riven. Instead I went with Wayward Shorty on my, little as possible, Asuran Warrior, using a greatsword +)

I had a laugh when I saw someone on my server with my name but a different i. My necros name is Bixy and I saw someone with the two dots on the i while I was playing on my mesmer. I have changed servers since then but never thought I would come across someone on the same server with the same name.

That being said I got lucky with all my names as Catixie is unique to me and I play most of my characters names off that. And I was on the second it was up to reserve my other 2 names that I thought might of had some competition

Most of my names work if you add a surname

I tend to go with first and last names in games like Guild Wars that allow it. For example, I may not be able to get Threnody (now that I think about it, I didn’t even try), but I got Threnody Johansson which, at the end of the day, I actually prefer.

When I try to get single-word names or names that are relatively wide-exposure (such as Death Dealer, let’s face it – Silke/Frazetta, Underworld franchise, et al), it never works. So I gave up on that approach a long time ago and I’m happier for it.

Sad story: I was Autumn Skye in GW1 for a long time, from the beta weekends on into release for a while. Then I decided to remake my character but got distracted. I didn’t get back to the game for a few days after deleting her. When I tried, the name was taken and I haven’t been able to get it back since. It’s very sad. I loved that name. But it’s like Death Dealer…it’s a combination of words that seems to occur to a lot of people and is therefore an unreliable thing to get your (my) heart set on.

Only names with two or more words in them could be reserved through Guild Wars.

I got most of the names I wanted this way having played Guild Wars for years. That being said I don’t think anyone else would want the names I use.

Learn to use ascii. Like æäÄô and all that. Just have to hold down Alt and type on the numpad in certain orders, not holding the buttons down.

I tried using Sapper for a Sylvari Engineer, and it was taken.

On a game that has over 1 million players, did you really expect to randomly see the one guy playing on the one character that has the name you wanted? Not to mention if you did happen to see the guy who took the name, he also has at least 4 other characters he could be playing.

Other games that you’ve played where the name was taken, chances are the guy who took it had probably uninstalled and quit playing already.

I don’t know why people have such an aversion to last names. I got all the names that I wanted simply because I added a last name to it.

Everybody still refers to you as the first name only, anyway. Or usually less, if it’s a long first name.

Even if you were trying to be lore friendly (Sylvari/Asura typically just having one name), it’s still easy enough to just put in a title. Like ‘Bopp the Synergist’ or ‘Riley of the Dawn’ or some such.

If you want Death Dealer, why not just use ‘Death Dealer Zed’ or something like that? Or, hell, why not ‘Death Dealer VII’ or something like that? Roman numerals makes everything cooler.
