Hey there,

I am an happy Linux Player and I already play Guild Wars 2 on Linux through the use of Wine. That being said, I have seen that a new native client is coming for Mac Users and I was wondering if a Linux/SteamOS client might also come, as technically it is easier to support Linux once you have an openGL renderer(which I guess you have for MacOS). Playing Gw2 on top of Wine, while it “works” is not butter smooth either, performance is sub par compared to windows, some glitches happen here and there, and random crashes are not so rare either when in a place with many players(WvW zerg expecially). As such, a Linux native client would be a very nice upgrade for Linux players in general and would be fairly welcome. If no port is coming, would it at least be possible for the windows client to have access to the openGL renderer too so that we may use it on wine(openGL to openGL translation is much better than dx9 to openGL)?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post,
Yours sincerely,
Bellerophon.1624

Well this makes me sad. I really would love to have GW2 on Linux.

Same here. I play using wine and its a rough ride. I would happily spend more to get a linux client. If arenanet did some sort of pay us X amount of dollars, and we’ll give you a linux client I think it would be successful. I’d happily pay up to $30 just for a linux client. I’m sure other users would pony up as well. We could even crowdfund the linux client on a monthly basis to ensure it gets built and maintained.

The only thing holding the client back is will, not money, not a userbase.

I would even go as far as to suggest Microsoft may be putting some dollars towards arenaNet NOT making a linux client, because thats just the type of thing they would do.

Count me in. As we speak I’m installing Lubuntu on one hdd, and DSL on another. Windows 7 occupies my ssd, which is an honor it does not deserve – yet enjoys solely because I desire a full GW2 experience.

$30 for a native debian/ubuntu-centric client would be a steal. I’d honestly pay in the region of $100-150, which is about how much it would cost me to buy Windows. I would see buying a Linux client as paying ransom to escape Windows forever.

The money is there, people are willing to pay a premium for the client. Arenanet could even ask for payment first and then deliver the product.

All they have to do is reach out for the dollars.

When a couple of hundred thousand people start asking for a Linux client, then Anet may just start to listen.
