I find the Nebo Terrace Event in Gendarran Fields often goes berserk in the way of a massive amount of Centaur entering the city.

If it really goes banana’s there are 3-4 Elites and al the rest are veteran dogs and veteran Centaur.

It always ends in a Failed event and usually when most (if not all) players are down.

I have a hunch it is a built in effect that happens when the game detects people that make themselves unreachable/unkillable by shooting from rooftops.

I tried to reason someone off of a roof at one time but he kept saying the event is bugged and it has nothing to do with said tactics. Someone else ran off calling everyone ‘bad’ and ‘noobs’ and stuff.

Is there anything known about this?

Just that it was stated it was adjusted awhile back in Patch Notes.

There’s this, as well, if it offers any help: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2g1p21/about_that_new_world_event_at_nebo_terrace/

Good luck.

Good luck.

That was very insightful indeed. Thank you.

I was sure it was some revenge effect or some other defect.

Never would have guessed it was working as intended.

The way to get the Nebo terrace event to succeed is to man the 3 trebuchets around the walls of the village, with players who know how to fire them.
They have very high AOE which is needed to take out the large groups of centaurs.
The centaurs will climb the towers the trebuchets are on after a while, so 3 players at least need to be assigned to guard the player who is doing the firing.
Sometimes the trebuchets are broken and they have to be fixed which is done by completing an escort quest which starts at the small camp near Stoneguard Gate Waypoint.

Yes, i noticed it was the transport that got the trebuchets repaired. Never realised that they were of such importance to the event though.

I also noticed that after you fail the event there is a follow up with a few Centaurs rounding up prisoners. That one is always quite easy, as are the other events around it and leading up to it.

I don’t see the point of the difficulty of the whole event to be honest, considering the area it is in. There are also never enough people to man/defend the trebuchets and even if there are, nobody seems to know how it works.

It’s quite frustrating to run the whole chain, only to be mauled in the main event by someting that looks more like it’s broken than a design philosophy… especially if you enjoy the rest like i do.

It’s nice to have some challenges in a game but this one seems out of place to me to be honest.

Oh well, armed with this knowledge maybe i can get some noses into the right direction the next time

My guess is that the rewards are not great enough to draw people to the event. Sounds like it’s as much “work” as Tequatl, but probably doesn’t give similar loot. Otherwise I would know about it, and this is the first time I learned about this event.

Also, are you certain that you have to use the trebuchets? I know of only few things in this game that cannot be killed by the sheer muscle power of a massive, determined zerg. Would love to see them Centaurs withstand a leather farm zerg like we used to see in Lake Doric before they removed the Centaur area from the game.

I’m sure if you get enough people, trebuchets are not needed.

i imagine the event absolutely could be brute-forced; the problem is that it’s a “prevent capture” event, and it spawns many veteran mobs even with only a single player present, and when the reinforcements arrive a host of stampeding centaurs charge into the ring and basically butcher anyone who’s still standing.

So basically the window to take out the reinforcements before they force a failure through simply knocking everyone out of the circle or dub-downing everyone inside is pretty slim.

The reward is a rare item according to reddit. Probably not enough by today’s demands.

The trebuchets are supposed to do the damage because the Centaurs have trample or knockback and also damage quite severe when they do that. They run in a massive circle inside the blue line and as all players are killed and the ring turns red from blue, the event fails.

The centaurs are also a lot harder to kill than normal.

I just tried to cheese it by standing on top of the pole in the centre but me beeing alive above the ring didn’t work either.

Sorry for cheesing Anet but i had to try

It’s really a complete, over the top, display of overpoweredness.

All things considered i guess the event is supposed to fail unless it is done in a perfect way . The trebuchets do considerable damage despite the fact that they seem almost impervious to weapon/spell damage . So unless you come with a massive zerg i don’t think you can skip the trebuchets.

But i’m still new to this game and i’m sure i ain’t seen nothing yet ^^

Edit: Maybe keeping them out before they breach the gates is a way to devide them and win the event?

Then you cannot know what a decent group with ascended berserker gear can do to a trampling horde of Centaurs. I don’t think we’ll ever see it though without incentives other than “challenge accepted”.

I tend to think events like these are PvE’s way of preparing yourself for thing that are in WvW. GW 2 is full of events that teach you tactics and mechanics that are more so needed in PVP and WvW than PVE. It not really a good way of providing hidden tutorials in your game.

Given the quantity and density of enemies Epidemic would work out much better.
