Is there a pack or something i can use to put in my application (see attachment). I know they made one for the wiki, but it’s only 2d assets. I would need a pack that contain a 3d model, even if there is only one model in it

I hate to say it, but the odds are pretty good that what you already have is past the boundaries of fair use, let alone adding more models from GW2.

If you have an application idea you want to develop that uses anet intellectual property, you really need to pitch it to them (and/or ncsoft) as a partnership or something. Sorry.

Yeah they are not going to give you 3D models. Thats not how gaming companies work. You are probably already violating copyright by using the art but I wont judge. If you just want something to represent a target than any generic human model should do the trick.

Lets assume some good faith here and that the person is trying to do something which qualify under fair use (or something which don’t involve copyright).

But as the others say, there is no 3d models available to use. You can always ask anet, but otherwise you are just stuck eyeballing it and creating your own interpretation.

I did assume that, and I also looked at the image, which is going to be at best challenging to sell as fair use in the current state of the law. (…and there is, under law, no “something which doesn’t involve copyright”.)

I’d really rather that the OP heard about this here, nicely, rather than by way of a polite letter from a lawyer.

there is one way to get 3d models yourself.
There is software where you record your position in an area with bland walls. Then you look at yourself from various angles.
This however would only work for players as getting a creature inside a simple cubicle without fighting and running around can be nigh impossible

You should approach their corporate office, like they were a company. The forums and so forth are for player support, but you want to talk about licensing their IP to use in a third party product — in a way they have not already cleared.

That’s a “talk to their lawyers” sort of thing, though your first step is to convince the anet staff that it’s worth spending the money and time doing that talking to support your project.

Finally, under the law, you are absolutely NOT able to “conclude everything is ok”, but rather, “without permission, you may not do this.” Worse, the way the law is structured there is a real chance that anet will be obliged to send you a cease-and-desist letter to protect their future rights, even if they don’t really care about your project.

A project ? What project ? It’s just a min igame i make for the GW2 community that will allow me to give gold coins to the winners. The game will go to the trash bin or to whoever want it after that.

I’m sorry to break it to you, but the “minigame you make for the gw2 community” is exactly what I’m talking about.

I know that copyright and trademark law is awful. I know it gets in the way of doing cool stuff. I think it should be wildly different. I think your idea should be legal to make.

What I want, and like, isn’t the issue, though. It’s a question of the law as it stands, and the law as it stands says: you need to be given specific permission by anet to use their 3D models, and they have not granted that permission.

…and that permission is a “talk to the lawyers” sort of permission, because they need to make sure they don’t accidentally, for example, make it possible for another company to use those same models in building an MMO of their own, and all sorts of things like that.

I’m sorry. I know it sucks that your cool idea is stuck behind this wall of annoying legal kitten. That doesn’t change the fact that, here today, it is.

That works for me. Thanks for taking the time to answer about the media assets.

[Post Edit]All right, after seeing the term of use i’m good to continue. Here are the main things to be aware:
- I must include anet copyright
- I may have to remove anet assets from content from application if anet decide to

Yes, you may use our content-that is images, text, video and audio files-within the following parameters

Notice how that identifies specific media, not including the 3D models, meshes, animations, particle effects, etc? I’m afraid to say that it intentionally excludes those.

That’s why i said that works for me. I already finished my 3d model under Sculptris (i learned to model with 3dsMax4 for DOS when i was in school more than 20 years ago but never modeled again since, stoped drawing only 15 years ago thought)

But hey, who said programmers cant model ?! Look at this !

haha! cool. Don’t forget to paste the head of a shark on top, and you have a perfect asura!

We can now rotate the camera by hoding a key (the keys for the skills and the mouse look are already bindable). Created, textured and animated a place holder for the creature (the final one wont be a teletuby…hopefully) with blender (i got someone to kill, the one who created the interface user experience)

Remaining:
- Populate skills
- Replace scenery place holder with final scenery
- Replace creature place holder with final creature
- Be able to move (the anim is already here and trigger automatically upon detecting movements)

A version you can download and play directly on your PC (although the build said PC/Mac/Linux i dont know if it will run on Mac/Linux) even if you dont have Unity installed: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5UrPZgTr3PZb1NlT21MVFlNVjA

Sorry, but what does this have to do with Guild Wars?

Aside from your use of their art and media assets and your requests for their 3D models, what does this program have to do with GW2?

All of your screenshots seem to suggest that you’re trying to recreate your own version of GW2 in Unity.

What’s the point?

For late comers i explain again:
- Once finished, those who wish to win up to 8000 gold coins will have to beat a gw2 mini game boss using some gw2 skills. The mini game in preparation is the one in the screenshots.

I used to do mini games in GW1 as well and rewarded several players with comparable amounts of money but i was limited because i had to rely on existing, non customizable content in game, which not always matched what i wanted to reward. Does that answer your benevolent curiosity ?

I’ve never heard of a gaming or film company giving out their character rigs. Sometimes they leak or someone jury-rigs it but that’s a different story…

Since your question was answered, and now your posts are more about advertising your creation, would this not be better suited to the Community Creations sub-forum?

Good luck.
