Q:
[Need Clarification] Chests From World Events
And is it per character or account… would be nice to know.

You can say that again. I was actually going to come to a conclusion on the question, but realised I may be jumping the gun.
Hopefully some details get revealed sooner rather than later.
their patch notes suck.
off topic i know but it needs said.
Vague is the word I would use. Just really really vague.
To the point of it not even being worth posting.

I’m going to try on my warrior but many are saying account, i like to check myself.. with hope.. ::crosses fingers:: because say you want the chest for level 60 gear on your 60, means you can only do it on that character.. Or you want it on your 15-20.. Same.
And the peppercorn thing, I know its a diff topic, but kinda like to know where u get them now after patch lol..

It’s per character. So basically people with one character are really really screwed compared to someone like me with almost 8 level 80s. They’ll maybe get 3 rares a day from dragons while I get upto or greater than 24 if I try.
edit: did maw twice on alt got no chest second time. did it on my thief after and got chest.
Well, before a dev chime’s in. I’d like to say this:
Having the chest not spawn used to be a bug…Are you saying it’s now a feature?
I remember them saying chest spawns weren’t tied with DR and it was an underlying problem with something else that needed to be resolved.
That was the last I heard of it…and now it’s common place for a chest not to spawn. Which…is strange. It’s like ‘reward-gating’ your content…not sure why?

Yes, I agree.
After all the patch notes are verified and posted, they still lack the ability to create detailed, non-confusing, straightforward notes.
I don’t even play warrior, and reading over this:
Vigorous Shouts: This trait has been fixed to properly affect allies within a range of up to 600.
I just kept saying….“600 what?”
Units? What are the units even measured in?
Meters? cm’s? Inches? Feet?
A tad bit more clarity helps a whole lot in the long run.

OMG Frozen Maw just got nerfed into oblivion.

Come on now. I’m all for more comprehensive patch notes but you are being ridiculous.
600 range UNITS. The name of the unit is meaningless. 600 feet. 600 meters. 600 miles. 600 gerbils. It doesn’t matter as there is no hierarchical distance system in the game, only a singular range unit.

I’ll admit, I’d not played guardian for a while, so my comprehension of 600 just seemed strange to me. Apologies.
However, my chest clarification stands firm. Still unsure about this.
This is most likely because people camp the Maw event in the norn area.
This is most likely because people camp the Maw event in the norn area.
I personally think that it’s not the right move to make to encourage people to play other areas. That’s just forcing them to “or else”.
It’s a negative style of making people go to other areas that they don’t enjoy or find less interesting than others, Instead of adding more incentive.
IMO, this is to stop players from constantly getting quick rewards especially with low level bosses. The thing is though, DE boses have a timer that lasts several hours.

Hmm so what bosses is this all together ? Does it include Dragons man so much for playing the way i WANT to play thanks Devs for nothing.

just go for any chest, especially big chests
Drops for chests just got a whole lot better. My first try at Maw today I got an exotic and a rare. Tried it on another character and got a rare. No more just blues and greens every time.

Id like to know what constitutes a boss chest as well. I assume it would include the dragons, but if so what else?
EDIT: Also, what about say the SoD jumping puzzle chest where you have to fight the priest.

I’d say they prefer wielding the stick over the carrot, but as all I ever see is the stick I doubt they even know how to use the carrot.
Arenanet, when are you going to stop punishing me for repeating content I like?
Having DR remove 95% of what rewards I was getting most of the time wasn’t enough for you?
Is this sadistic tendency really that much of a turn on for you guys?
Stop nerfing things in a petty and mindless attempt to force me to play the game how you want it played.
I would threaten to stop recommending the game to people, but that doesn’t really work, since as of this patch (and heavily based on this particular nerf) I’ve started actively telling people to avoid it, as I know they’ll hate it and the least I can do for my friends is save them the $60 and loads of grief this game is turning out to be.
Idiots.

Still no word on this?
Spent tonight testing some stuff. Guested to GoM and ET, home was BG
3 events – Same char, same event, different server – 1st event = chest, 2nd event = no chest
3 events (same as first character) – Different character on different servers – chest on all 3.
My fun laughs at your server pride.

Thanks for this bit of info. It’s greatly appreciated since I don’t have the time to check it myself.
I guess the questions is: If you weren’t doing it for testing purposes, would it make you want to go do other events?
I hate supporting companies that punish their customers for using their product in a way they didn’t anticipate. Can’t wait for Apple to buy Anet.
Everything else about the update was great but you destroyed a great event by killing our rewards – the frozen maw.
Why not just change the chest instead of turning the whole chain into a karma farm?
What is wrong with your designers?
So is the reset on chests from dragons, maw, etc on a 24 hour from when you looted it cooldown like JPs? Or are they reset at daily resets like dungeons and stuff?
Am I legendary yet!?
I’d like to know about its timers as well.
Seems to be a “daily reset time”-timer. Did the fire-elemental half an hour before daily reset last night, and today in the morning. Same character, chests both times.
So I can only do Jormag once a day ?
Arielle Nera – Guardian

So I can only do Jormag once a day ?
You can do Jormag as many times as you’d like… but you only get rewards for the first time. Every other time looks like the only thing you get is whatever you find from trash mobs and the exp/karma/gold for completing the event.
Does anyone know what the actual reset time is?

You can also do it on an alt and get full rewards.
So 1 main + 4 alts = 5 chests per day per world boss

Agreed. This isn’t so much a case with Jormag since it’s an 80 dragon and so you’re kinda expected to be 80 so at least your gear won’t be level 60 rares…unless you’re a brave lvl 60 alt doing a 80 dragon.
But doesn’t that make you think…if you’ve just logged to an alt for the same means of getting the chest drop from the same dragon, 3 hours later…what’s the point of locking it out at all per character?
If it’s only making you change alts instead of changing locations, then it’s not fulfilling the means it was introduced for.
More than that though, by making it once a day per toon it also means someone with many alts can get a significantly higher amount of loot. And I’ve heard (but haven’t tested yet myself), that you can get it again while guesting, which would compound the gap.
I mean, if someone has one character they can hit, say, the Frozen Maw once. Someone with 8 characters can hit it 8 times.
If it is indeed possible to hit it on guested servers then the gap becomes 3 times for one character and 24 times for 8.
This means people buying more characters can potentially reap considerably higher rewards .
In essence, it becomes a pay to win scenario.
The thing that boggles my mind is that some people are actually glad for this change, claiming the previous setup was “heavily exploited”.
But the thing is, at least that way everyone had the same opportunity for reward, the same number of rolls on the RNG slot machine, because it didn’t matter that player X was swapping characters to redo the event, player Y could do the event just as many times and get just as many chances at loot with a single character.
Anyone who believes people aren’t going to capitalize on the “per character” part is a fool.

ANet, what the hell?
If you are going to limit chests to once a day, for god’s sake make it account bound. You’re telling me that as someone who prefers to play a single character, I am missing out on an obscene amount of rewards?
People who spam new characters to 80 and buy character slots (you can have over 30 slots) gain a massive loot advantage. Absolutely massive.

This is good because it encourages me to make alts, and level new characters to 80. Which means more players leveling in the newbie zones again
I would settle for better scaling and loot systems, and a greatly reduced waypoint cost as a way to get people PLAYING in the newbie zones. I couldn’t care less if they were there for leveling or not.
Arena Net making completely idiotic game changing decisions that aren’t done with fun in mind, but instead with the intent of making players not play the content they want to play?
I mean, everyone knows that DR is fun. Everyone knows that one chest per 24 hours is fun.
Sounds like par for course. GG ANet, keep being you.
This thread.
Seems to me there’s a lot of crying over spilled milk. Dislike the fact that people with alts get more rewards? Tough.
Up until now, the game was largely unfriendly to the altoholic crowd, specifically laurel rewards. Now the chest drops good loot but only once per day, per character. Good change IMO.
Please explain to me how this punishes you for repeating content when you still get event rewards from the task and you still have fun playing the content (I assume, else why are you repeating it?).

How? Can I buy gems to make more hours in the day? I forgot Anet sold hour-packs to make my play time longer so I can afford to grind the same event 24 times in one sitting.
But the thing is, at least that way everyone had the same opportunity for reward, the same number of rolls on the RNG slot machine, because it didn’t matter that player X was swapping characters to redo the event, player Y could do the event just as many times and get just as many chances at loot with a single character.
So you’d prefer a completely unsatisfactory and unfun reward chest that you get every time? In my opinion, 1 good reward beats the hell out of 5 bad rewards. I’m sure I’m not alone in this thinking.
Secondly, you can always find another event that gives a chest and play that instead of repeating which ever one you deem the easiest.
I just wanted a AAA MMO with no sub made by ArenaNet. And it’s awesome.”

I missed this..
So effectively this means they are saying ‘go repeat X(fractals/dungeons etc) over and over and over’, and in the same breath saying we are not allowing you to ‘repeat Y(big event), over and over’.
On one hand I can see where they are coming from, they don’t want people getting good stuff, easy, by repeating the same fight. But they want us to repeat the same grind over and over elsewhere, for longer, with less reward…

Repeating a fractal takes time and some amount of skill. Repeating a dragon event means standing there with a zerg and getting a reward for a few minutes of your time and pretty much no real effort. And the reward you get from the dragons is actually more than you’d get from running a fractal. You get at last 3 items, and in many cases more. So it’s like running three fractals or an entire level.
People who run fractals are actually doing something. People who farm dragons want easy loot.
The problem with easy loot is what it does to the economy long term. Much of the stuff from the fractals is account bound. That’s not true from the dragon chests.
People complained that they were getting blues and Anet fixed it. People want free loot all day every day and that Anet can’t provide.
If you want loot, play the game.

So you want everyone to play the same way as you for being rewarded ?
Everyone must do fractals to earn cash ?
Fractals weren’t meant for that, it rewards you with ascended stuff and it’s fine.
@Vayne
Agreed. But this games economy is one of the worst I have seen. Its on par with an action mmo, you vendor 95% of the stuff you find. And what can you spend gold on that’s so important?
Whatever happened to ‘play how you choose’? People have been doing dragons over and over for the last few months. A ‘dragon timer’ website was even born to cover this. The economy survived.
I cant see why Anet would choose (again) to restrict its user base.
I don’t understand what people are complaining about, before you could do Maw maybe 10 times or more and you would get with luck a couple rares and maaaybe an exotic, now you can only run Maw once per character but you have a really good chance of getting a couple of rares and probably an exotic, it’s win/win for everyone…

Understandable that guys and gals that decide to grind fractals and dungeons can do that all they like, but thats just one playstyle.
This isn’t too far from stamina systems that get implemented to other MMO’s as a way to stop them from overfarming. That’s pretty much the same reasoning here – not about getting to venture other areas.
I wonder if you’d be cool with getting chests on only the first dungeon run of the day, and one chest for the first fractal of the day and then get told by people running dragons and chest events that “well, you deserve it…because your playstyle is too much”
Why didn’t they just curb chest rewards. (IE: The sacred DR system – do the event more than once you chance for rares are gone….you still blues and maybe greens, like the old chests used to produce)
A few rares…in 10 runs…before the patch…
What game were you playing?…Never happened to me.
Just wondering why they didn’t put an alternative to the chest, like getting more karma when redoing the same event (IIRC you get them for redoing renown hearts but not for dragons), or worse drops, zone appropriate crafting mats only/low tiered upgrade components. So many different variations could have been added instead of just choking chests straight away.
I am stunned at the fact that another could possibly find it within themselves to complain that these new rewards are character bound.
“If you are going to limit chests to once a day, for god’s sake make it account bound. You’re telling me that as someone who prefers to play a single character, I am missing out on an obscene amount of rewards?”
I hope that you can take a step back and acknowledge how incomplete this assessment is.
1. The idea that this change means you’re “missing out” on loot over people who have multiple characters- what’s stopping you from having multiple characters? :O
2. It’s like you haven’t considered at all how much more time, in-game currency, effort and dedication it takes to level, gear, and maintain multiple characters. If this one aspect of the game now inadvertently favors people with alts, almost every other aspect of the game inadvertently discriminates against them (note: I don’t believe either of these things to be true).
3. The rewards are just freaking BETTER! Regardless of whether you have one character or six, the colors you see when you press F on the world chests are more favorable than before!
4. The fact that it’s character-based means that more total loot will be generated. This is an orchestrated step to manipulate the economy. More rares, available for less silver, and a steady decline in the price of ectos are already being realized in less than 48 hours.
5. If the “I only have one character and my rewards are shot because of the daily reset” is the only thing bothering you, simply do ALL the events in the timeframe it would have taken you to repeat a single event 4 times prior to this change. You’ll wind up with more loot than before anyway and you won’t have done the same exact thing four times.
6. Any change that favors individuals who have multiple characters encourages more players to give attention to multiple characters. This has the net effect of more players in the “leveling zones” (non-60-to-80 content) and more experienced players in areas where newbies can use tips and assistance.
It’s a great change, it benefits everyone (except RPers on Tarnished Coast :’().

1. before you could do Maw like 20x per day or more if you had time. Now it 5 time or go to Item Shop for extra slot.
2. good drops were more rare, but salvage was wayyyyy more successful, most of the time I’ve got 1 ecto, like every 5th salvage: 3 ectos. Now I’m getting mithril & logs, cheap upgrades and like 1 ecto per 3 salvages!
from Maw I’ve got a lot of useful not rare/exotic drops, so it was a good way to make some cash. I can prove that getting 3-4 green per 30min is even better then rare per day + I don’t loose money on failed salvage, nor on greedy TP.
plus I found it kind of fun inside game where I have nothing much to do.
Sorry to tell but once you finish to lvl up and crafting (was ok, not cooking though); finish exploration on main (fkg grind so never again), may be others enjoy it, I don’t mind; try dungeons (OMG! how they can be THAT bad), if you like it, good for you, I just hate almost all of them; WvW could be some kind of fun if I simply not dc’ed once inside mass event (it can be my comp, but still impossible to play),
you have nothing else to do as run good DE (called farming by Anet), I don’t see why I should run bad, hard, reward-less etc DE if I have choice. But no! Now it clearly tell me to run around and do also bad designed DE if I want to get fun.
I guess, no thanks!
In a world where a lot of A+++ games became free to play, value of 60$ is highly increased.
Sorry to tell, but I will just tell the truth about what you gonna get here for your money!
Now, please try to be objective and let me have my own opinion, even if you dislike it. I did my best by trying to suggest, post my impressions etc.
It’s not my job either to pay for game and try to make it better, as I guess it must be good by itself or not worth to be bought.
But I see here, sorry to call it this way, a persistent try to make this game worse by every patch.
I remember my feeling after great GW1 nerf, but I got hope good lesson was learned from what happened.
I guess I though about wrong lesson.
IMO, I guess all you care about is sell us game, not to make it fun for all, as it was promised by advertising.
Sorry to make sad post, but you killed once more, my GW gaming and I feel very bad about.
The Frozen Maw twenty times a day? :-[

I’m legitimately sorry that your playstyle was impacted negatively by this patch. I’m sure I would feel the same in your shoes.
But this is much better for everyone.
