Has anyone figured out how to stop the constant disconnects? I forwarded my ports and did every solution I could find on google and nothing works. I can’t even do my second class quest because the second an enemy appears I get D/C.

Tech support is completely useless in this matter as evidenced by the fact that the problem even still exists. If Walmart would take the game back I would have already done that, because I’ve just about had it. Spend 65 dollars on a game and 5 months later you can’t even play it. Completely ridiculous, and there is no excuse for it. You’re a large well funded company, you should either have the experts on hand to fix stuff like this or get out of the business.

Experts don’t have a magic wand that suddenly makes the problem disappear. Sometimes they have to take a step back and look at it.

If it was a problem affecting everyone, it’d probably be easier to solve.

Have you tried:

  • Renewing your IP
  • Clearing your DNS
  • Repairing your game file
  • Using the ‘/port 80’ command in the shortcut

If the solution was on google, I did it.

With the exception of the port 80 in the shortcut, because I don’t have an actual shortcut for the game. I had to finagle it to get it to DL and I have to use the installer file to start the game.

It’s pretty obvious to me what’s happening. The server is spewing out way too much data at once in too big of chunks because when it D/Cs me it blows out my entire internet connection.

I haven’t experienced any constant disconnects to try and fix. Sometimes my computer loses internet connection but that’s definitely a problem on my end (which could probably the solved by getting the new ethernet cable I keep meaning to buy).

Even if it is a problem on Anet’s end if it’s only happening occasionally and only to one or a few people it can be very hard for them to identify what the common factor in each occurance is and therefore what’s causing the problem. Especially since it’s unlikely those people will report it every single time it happens and if they do they probably won’t include every relevant bit of information so Anet are left guessing at what might have caused it.

My crystal orb is a bit foggy about your system specs but I had comparable issues with my old Core2Duo with 3GB of ram and 32 bits Windows Vista. Basically even though it shouldn’t (according to min system requirements), the PC ran out of memory and the game crashed after a while of playing, usually when changing zone or when getting near many mobs or players (WvW zergs for instance). Enabling the 3GB switch (use google to learn more about this) solved the problem and kept me playing for hours on end without a single game crash.
In the end the low settings didn’t satisfy me so I bought a new PC after all but the 3GB switch worked for me and might work for you if your PC is low on resources.

Does your internet ever cut out when you’re not playing GW2? Particularly when you’re doing other things that are quite demanding on the connection.

I had a problem like that in both GW and GW2 a few months ago, but it also happened whenever I tried to stream a movie on my blu-ray player. I called my ISP, they spent half an hour running some tests on the connection, the next day some guys spent a morning up a telephone pole across the street and I haven’t had a problem since. I later found out the guy upstairs (who shares the same cable) had been having the same problems streaming movies on his computer and it fixed it for him as well. (He had been blaming the PC.)

Ah nvm my previous post, it seems you’re really talking of server disconnects and not just game crashes. /whistles and walks off

It only happens with this game.

and it only happens at times when the server is sending me a chunk of data. IE: Opening a vendor, or an Event spawns. I can stand around all day and not get D/C but the second I try and do anything important boom, forget about it.

Getting extremely frustrated as the game seems fun, but I feel like this is a simple problem.

And LOTS of people are having the issue according to the 20 page long thread in the tech support forum

So you don’t use Gw2.exe?

If you do:

  • Make a Shortcut (Right Click > Create Shortcut)
  • type /port 80 after the file path (so it’ll be something like “C:/Program Files/Guild Wars 2/Gw2.exe” /port 80)
  • run it.
