Upon reaching lvl 80, my goal is to buy the Sylvari cultural weapons. I have lots of karma, and makes sense to save gold for later. Anyway, those weapons seem good enough (Rare tier) for a newbie lvl 80 character.

Next goal would be upgrading to Exotic, and to do this I want to farm/explore the lvl 80 zones (not only for gold farm, but also for fun since this is my first lvl 80 character).

The wiki tells me there are 4 lvl 80 zones (not counting the expansion yet):

- Cursed Shore
- Southsun Cove
- Dry Top
- The Silverwastes

So, can you guys quickly summarize each of these zones to me?
Where should I go first?
Are they solo friendly (I’m casual, and don’t want to wait for groups)?
Can I get good drops just doing eventual random events?

The best loot map is probably The Silverwastes, but the mobs are a bit more difficult. Orr has Exotic Armor for Karma. Dry Top is a bit difficult to navigate, at first. Southsun is probably easiest to map complete.

You can just try each of the end-zone levels (some are L70-80) and see how you fare.

Storywise I would go to Cursed Shores first. As Inculpatus told you, you’ll have karma exotic armor ready for picking. Especially if you reach Grenth Temple (s-w corner of the map), pieces have berserker’s stats. If you don’t feel good yet in full bers you can find a vendor near Arah with a soldier stats version.
Pretty easy soloable map for exploring.

Southsun is a very small map that you can reach from Lion’s Arch. Boring and bad designed imho you’ll soon forget about it except if you’ll want to do the Karka Queen boss.

Dry Top and Silverwastes were added with living history and are home to “mega” pve events. You can reach both from Brisban. I don’t like the jumping puzzle set of Dry Top but it’s just me If you’ve not HoT, Silverwastes is still one of the best, if not the best, place to farm (Vinewrath, chest farms, etc). Be only sure to take with you some condi cleanse and eventually take a look at LFG in Open Tyria for a “good” open instance. Again, no big trouble if you’re just exploring.

The trek to Cursed Shore is pretty long across some fairly hostile maps. Once you are there (if your goal was temple armour), there’s a further journey to the temples and then the group event to open the temple has to take place or to have taken place. You can certainly solo there but I’d take some speed boost and stealth if you can and make sure you know where the WP’s are so you make sure you hit them. I don’t think there are timers for the temple events, might be wrong. You will need to hang around if they aren’t open and if you want to help open them you will need a group.

Southsun is full of karka. If you plan on soloing round then I’d advise going when the Karka Queen event is on. More chance of surviving if there are other people around. It is easy to get to, there’s an asura gate in Lion’s Arch.

Ugh Dry Top. You can go there if you want. I don’t. Maybe it’s fun.

Silverwastes is incredibly popular as a farming map. There are tons of guides on how to do it “properly” or you can just run round the outposts having inefficient fun, hacking mordrem to bits. Be aware that’s it a series of events so you don’t miss out on anything, use the LFG tool to find a populated map until you get the hang of it. Again, more people should mean less deaths for you, more deaths for mobs.

If you’re interested at all in the story, you should follow it and it will lead you through Orr. While it’s not as popular as it was right after launch (before a lot of these other maps were added,) it’s still worth seeing, and Temple Armor would meet your Exotic goals nicely. Probably go here first.

Southsun Cove has the Karka Queen world boss event, which drops good loot, but there’s not much else there. Some specialists will farm karka shells and gather crafting materials there.

Dry Top is mostly good if you need Geodes for something. There is a map-wide event going on, but I think it’s generally been surpassed by Silverwastes and Heart of Thorns maps.

Silverwastes is a popular farming zone. There are four forts throughout the zone that must be defended from Mordrem attacks, with supply caravans going between them that also need to be protected. After a sufficient level of preparation, each fort has a boss to fight, and the map gets rewarded well if all four bosses are defeated. Then the map fights the Modrem Vinewrath, a large, multi-stage boss battle that requires coordination. After that, a maze-running mini-game opens up for a while. People also farm this zone by digging up locked chests, using shovels and keys that they win from events and by spending Bandit Crests.

If you want armor of a specific type, Temple Armor in Orr is a good option. If you just want loot in general, even if you can’t use it personally, Silverwastes is popular.
