Guild Wars 2

Hello guys!
Been away for a while and coming back I am kind of looking for a new class (or maybe stick to my thief depending on the advice)
Every time I check out the forums (for any class really) it just seems every one of them is in a horrible spot… and completely useless, so I thought I’d make a dedicated post for advice instead of wading through all the negativity.
So what I’m after is this: I’m looking for a class which can provide good damage and utility (maybe a bit more utility then damage)in all the game modes, the survival can be higher then thief but I don’t really have to much trouble staying alive on it. I don’t have the time to make multiple classes and swap about for every mode… so I want one class for all. I want to be able to do spvp (where I can actually fight the team, since thief, last time I played, couldn’t do anything but decap, which gets quite dull), I would like to be able to wvw roam (wouldn’t be solo, with a friend who mains an engi), but would be useful in the Zerg to and lastly it should be able to solo / duo in pve content (though most classes can do this fairly easily, so not really a hard requirement) and maybe be able to do raids as well.

Anyways long post so thanks for reading and hope you can give some advice for a new (or sticking to) class!

I like my Dragonhunter (Guardian ELITE spec.) a lot, he provides respectable damage, along with great utility/boon upkeep. Guardian is more than viable for the content you mentioned, and due to his dmg. mitigation skills/abilities, you can go pretty glassy and still have great survivability due to the amount of, blocks/immunes/stun breaks ect. that the class possesses.

If your looking for what is currently, “Meta”, then that lies with three classes, Warrior/Ele/Mesmer all three are really top-tier when it comes to raids/fractals ect.

But I 100% support the idea of you going Guardian, as it’s a great well-rounded class, with a chill rotation, and it’s build diversity allows it to transition between game types flawlessly.

Sounds pretty good I’ll give it a spin! And I stopped paying attention to the meta… it makes the game such a dull experience

All the classes are completely capable of being useful and effective in all the content the game offers, including top tier fractals, raids, pvp, and wvw. You should play what you enjoy, and focus on it — because for most players skill differences are more significant than any mechanical differences between the classes.

If you read the forums and reddit, yes, it sounds like everything is dead — pve, pvp, wvw, raiding, all dead. dead as a dodo. dead as the game is. ditto classes: every one is completely useless, unloved, and trivially beaten by everyone else.

This is … depressingly standard, honestly, even when players have access to good information. I remember many times in WoW where a class was suddenly unwanted in raids because it was “nerfed into the ground” according to the forums.

On the flip side, according to the actual raid logs and performance numbers across tens of thousands of runs, they moved less than two percent down in DPS, or they now performed similarly to other classes instead of being grossly overpowered.

So… yeah, people gonna hate. Ditch the haters, play what you want.

In the end, play what you find most enjoyable, when you find a class that says, “Hey I’m perfect for you”, then dive into improving yourself with that class, I would take a off-meta class/build played by an experienced person who love it, over some random playing meta because, “It’s OP”, ect.
