Never gonna farm enough gold
Never gonna farm enough gold up.
Never gonna cut those trees down.
Never gonna mine around, times two.
Good show ol’ chap
Ever thought about crafting it? Its significantly cheaper to make because only about half of the cost directly involves gold. The rest is mostly transmuting T5 to T6 mats using skill points, buying Obsidian Shard with karma, running dungeons for tokens, etc. The gold cost on the TP is to reflect the overall effort of creating the item, especially the world exploration phase, not its actual cost in gold to make.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

Because gold is worthless? It decides what order people get stuff in, not whether or not they get it. You could farm the champ train for 9 hours a day for two months… and someone else would too, and you’d still be in line behind them.
You are way better off pursuing the tasks and the smaller purchases that will allow you to craft one – to actually build value – rather than chasing mudcoin.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

As others here have said, it’s much cheaper to save up gold to buy the Precursor (since getting it yourself is too dependent on RNG), and then craft the rest of Twilight yourself.

I agree with all these, but every time i know that i got to do every single heart for the map completion i just feel frustrated!
Heh, different strokes for different folks, it seems. I LOVE exploring maps and finding/completing every last thing in a zone. However, as I hate PvP, I also loathe the fact that map completion forces me to go into WvW. There will be rough spots in every journey.
For Twilight. It’s such a neat sword… but it’s so out of my reach. The most I can make a day by doing FGS champ trains / world bosses (and might I mention that I get jack squat from the world bosses all the time)… I calculate I’ll have to run champ trains 9 hours a day for two months solid… aint nobody got time for that! The average price of twilight is 3000g! That’s absurd!
Yes, you ain’t got time for that – now think about it:
You can do all that boring in-game garbage for months, or you can spend much less time making some real life money and just hit up the gem store for gold. Surely you can figure out how to make enough real money that translates into 3k gold in a reasonable amount of time.
I can’t exactly spend real money on gold… I’m on disability
Nah, you can spend real money if you want to buy a cool skin which is something most of us did at least once, but so much money for a legendary, nah it doesn`t worth it

Maybe you try one of the other methods of making gold. Champ trains are not the only way and defiantly not the quickest way of making gold. But it’s your choice I guess. With that in mind, you shouldn’t complain that it would take you 2 month if you wanted a Twilight.
I earn 80-100g per week and I play approx 2-3 hours per day. I play quite casually. Your not approaching your revenue earning correctly if a legendary is what you seek.
I probably should point out that playing 2 – 3 hours per day isn’t actually the behaviour of a casual player. 7 – 8 hours a week is more the mark for a casual player.
If you’re playing an average of 2 hours per day (more on weekends), like me, you’re well within the ranks of a dedicated player.

The only thing that will get you that blasted sword is by not giving up.
Don’t waste time on champion trains, unless you have np with being braindead for a couple of hours per day for 3 months.
Make your goal clear, don’t farm for ascendeds, don’t gear up anyone, don’t look at the gemstore, don’t level up crafting, don’t use karma.
Do your daily every day, do your monthly, farm some ancient wood and orichalcum every day and don’t sell it, do your daily cof p1, cof p2, hotw p1, fractals can be time consuming but in the long run they are worth it so do the daily at least 2-3 times per week, buy rare items for the badges and salvage them, find a reliable site with boss timers and take down some of them every day, don’t salvage trash items for mf.
Save globs of ectoplasm til you have 231, orichalcum til you have 500 bars, onyx items til you have enough for 100 lodestones, T6 mats til you have 250 of each, also save leather (might increase a lot in price once ascended gear is out).
Always waste time on the flexible items which are sellable first.
Your goal on how much gold per day should be reasonable to yourself, I’d recommend an increase of 12-15 gold per day while keeping all the items needed for twilight,
this will set you at 1000+ gold in 3 months, while you also have a lot of tradeable items. If a good precursor drops, which is quite unlikely, you’d already affort your Twilight.
Keep track of some prices on the trade post as well and perform some coin flipping and be patient, I’d recommend purchasing items that are only available for a certain amount of time and put them back on trade post later for a higher price. (like wind catcher, you could have bought it for 20 gold and sold it for 50 now, or dragon bash wings bought for 6 and sold for 20 now)
Do this for 3 months, then you should be close enough to decide whether you’ll buy twilight or if you’ll craft it, if you’ll craft it, start farming the non-flexible items like WvW badges & karma, AC badges.
You can make it easily in 7 months maybe? Why the rush?
The game launched in August 2012 – by may 2013 i had my Legendary – and i didn’t farm particularly for it. Play the game – get money – get sword.
Also if you’re buying and not crafting it you’re doing something wrong.
just consider this a long term goal. which well it actually is. You’re meant to take months to craft your legendary so planning on farming the goal in 2 months is actually greatly rushing it. This is something that should take you close to a year to earn. Just play comfortable what you enjoy, save up and when you can afford it, buy it. Dont think of this as something you have to get in a month or two because it really isnt.
As others here have said, it’s much cheaper to save up gold to buy the Precursor (since getting it yourself is too dependent on RNG), and then craft the rest of Twilight yourself.
This is true. With the current trend of gold inflation, unless you’re a hardcore dedicated player or lucky or both, it’s not easy to get 3k gold.
If you want it, work for it. Period. It’s called Legendary for a reason.
Since coming back in the last month or so I noticed how much more money I’ve made just from dungeons, world bosses and finally having some MF as I never wore the gear before the changes. Note I don’t even participate in champ trains. The money has been so good that I’m tempted to make a second legendary. Don’t buy the finished product off the TP, buy the precursor and farm/buy the mats off the TP to forge it yourself.

Legendary in the name alone, hardly holding true to the idea of a legendary when it can be bought with cash or ingame gold.
To op, myself I crafted Quip and sold it, worth every gold I got.
You must want it for the skin or because you like to use multiple specs on one toon to swap stats in and out, otherwise no real reason for it. I would ignore the gold farming as that can eat ya up working to 3k, work towards everything else for it & wait on Anet release of crafting precursor. Either by then you will be able to craft it or prices may drop in TP. Probably feel more “Legendary” if crafted anyhow.
You may even get a precursor you don’t want to sell by then, how I got mine, random 4 pistols from boss farming in the mf.
Got to remember though Anet makes money selling gold, like many things in GW2 “Legendary” is tied to the gemstore.

Jus try to think about this If you set yourself to do a legendary in 7 months.
Over the last 7 months we had more than 100% inflation on stuff.

Your calculations fail to include the rare drops that you would get during those 2 months. I’m guessing your calculations also fail to include the tier 6 mats that sometimes drop, or are you storing those in your bank for later use? I farmed the FGS champ train for like 4-6 hours a day and got 100 gold in about 3 days, if not a little less than 3 days. Because you are constantly killing champs, I’m guessing that you would have a significantly higher chance of receiving an exotic piece of equipment than you would by killing world bosses (because you kill more champions in the time it takes to kill one world boss). You never know, you could loot a precursor during that time.
Don’t farm, work the TP.
The price of buying Twilight went up? O_o
It looks like the price of making one yourself has dropped by 100g compared to the last time I checked. It it still “only” 1786g to craft, not including SP and karma. The SP is worth at least another 33g and the karma at least 8g. So that is 1828g crafting cost which meant break even is 2150g. If they sold it at 3000g the profit is around 722g.
That actually seems pretty lousy for the effort to make one.
It also assumes you got the 2 lv400 crafter for free.
