I purchased the game on Saturday. I purchased gems on Sunday. Then I found out I am unable to use the currency exchange. Nowhere is this posted, at least not obviously for a new account. I can’t find a solid answer on how long it lasts and now I am sitting on gems that are no use to me.

Does anyone know how long it lasts? Or if I am able to get a refund on the gems?

I hit 80 on Sunday and I was hoping to get started with full exotics.

The exact amount of time that new accounts are restricted in some endeavors is not stated. It is a deterrent to those of nefarious intentions.

It will probably lift, at most, within a month (likely sooner).

You can read about refunds in the Knowledge Base. Top/Bottom of Page – Support – Search (Refund)

Good luck.

It’s only a few days. Should be lifting any day now.

You power ground your way to 80 in a day? Whev. You missed quite a lot I would say.

Let’s hear how you managed 0 to 80 in a day- was it dungeon paths with guildies doing them then you entering for the final boss?

That’s… Unhealthy. You’ll be through all the content in this game in a week (or less) at that pace.

That didn’t explain how, just how many hours you took. How did you actually do it?

You might also want to say how many skills and traits you had unlocked when you hit level 80:-)

I don’t know. I did all the easy hearts in the beginning areas. I skipped a lot of hearts. I tagged mobs in events as I ran by just so I can get exp. Exploration, Map reveals and Finding the WP’s was a huge amount of Exp.

I don’t know how many skill points I had. Not many. I skipped all the cut scenes and whatnot. I just did the easiest stuff.

I didnt even run my first dungeon until I was 77. Then from 77-80 was 3 dungeons.

I did a little bit of cheap easy crafting that I used my crafting exp boosters on.

Ok, this was during the double xp event, so let’s say normally, he would take 70h.

Can I hear someone say that the game should be faster to level through?

Well that is not true. Double Exp was only for WvWvW and Public Events. I did do a lot of public events yes. But it would have been a lot faster than 70 hours even without it.

You can refund the gems by contacting support.

Exchanging gems is locked to prevent new accounts purchased using stolen cards from dumping gold into the economy. It should take around 72 hours to unlock.

I was just extrapolating and giving “worst case scenario” on how long it would take. You’re new to the game, so I’ll fill you in a bit on why I said that.

There have been some changes that increased leveling through the first 20(?) levels. Still there are people that say it should be faster. Keep in mind that are items that give you, instantly, enough experience to level once and others give just 5% of a level. And still people want it faster…

Even if he bought the game at 23:59 on Saturday, his 72h period should be ending in about 13h. Dunno what he’s doing right now, but if he can wait, no need on contacting support or whatever.

Crafting also rewarded insanely heaps of exp, super fast during this double XP event. I myself managed to craft a toon to 80 with about 4-5 disciplines. Very fast~

Just hold them. You’ll be able to sell them soon enough.
